I recall an interview with a German tank commander who was at Kursk, he said that he thought that one of the Ferdinands was hit by enemy fire because it had caught fire, turned out it had overheated, and I guess some oil or something had leaked and caught fire
That event was caused by an untrained driver over revving and being in too high of a gear, which caused the crappy German copper used in the motors to overheat and combust. Which added with the restricted airflow and 18 extra tonnes than what the powerplant was designed for made that all too common.

While it won't set them on fire (at least not that I've seen), driving with the transmission in second position for about 5 minutes or so will actually start to kill them. P.S. - I'd like to see some T-34 or other Russian tank gameplay, as I feel like they're at such a disadvantage (especially at range) that some pretty clever tactics will be needed to take out a Panther or Tiger in a T-34...
Lucky you that the Ferdi doesn't have to worry about infantry (yet). Still quite a fun mission, although lack of air support definitely made things complicated for you two!
To be fair, infantry isn’t as much a big deal in tank battles. Urban engagements are typically where that is. (Kursk excluded cause Kursk was a cluster fuck)
That's also a pretty common misconception about the Ferdinand's performance at Kursk. They were rarely if ever taken out by enemy infantry - even cited by Soviet officers. Sadly the Ferdinand more often than not broken down and its own crew burned them down to avoid them being captured. The Soviets turned this around as propaganda, but in several memoirs the Soviet officers admit to encountering burned out Ferdinands that they did not attack/destroy. Now unreliable vs. "taken out by Soviet infantry"...neither is good, but the common idea that Soviet infantry were crawling all over Ferdinands in the middle of the fight is generally inaccurate.

Have you ever thought about doing a setup tour, I have been watching your videos for a couple of months now and you have got me addicted to IL-2 Sturmovik and I have been battling out with a really old joystick and nothing else and it is painful to be beaten by a I-16 when you are in a BF109 F-4 and I was just wondering what stuff to buy.
Definitely know the feeling when two hands is not enough to handle looking, joystick, throttle and everything else on the keyboard. Just recently got a head tracking set and it really helps out, definitely recommending to start from that as it is not necessarily that pricey either. I think right now head tracker is a choice between do-it-yourself very cheaply / get a set for around 90 £ and do lots of setting up yourself / just get a more expensive set and skip most of the headache. Of course having a video on topic from Wolfpack would be welcome, but I can giver some directions as well.
@@forlornfoe 90 pounds seems awfully expensive. Are you talking about TrackIR? It's a decent little thing, though I have found it needs to be set up in line with your head, so if you don't have an adjustable chair, well, a big ball of poster putty/bluetack works decently to hold it on the wall. XD
