  • Two whole months of the year are already over and I'm only just now getting around to doing my first Crafter's Log of 2023. That pretty much sums things up around here!

    This may not look like the sort of video that should've taken three weeks to put together, but that's just the world I'm living in right now! Thanks for bearing with! ❤️

    For what it's worth, a few weeks ago there was a lady who came into my local yarn shop to show off a stocking that she had cast on in 1997 and just now finished! I was honestly so impressed by her tenacity. A weaker knitter (me) would have just given up on the project somewhere in the mid 2010s 😅

    Hellooo Michelle!👋 Glad you took time off when you knew you needed it! Holidays + wedding planning is a lot going on.
    Thank you so much for your super kind shout-out! ❤🥰 I'm honored you enjoy my Flosstube even though we tend to gravitate toward different designs. 😁 Your projects are always so cool, and you're smart and entertaining (your accent is def a bonus)!
    Great idea to add your own crafting talents to your wedding! Your crochet flowers are beautiful. 😍 Just remember the day is for you to shine! Don't add so much that you're too stressed the day of at least. Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials! ❤💍💐

      Finding that balance is definitely the thing. Not so muchstuff to be stressful, but enough so that I'm not thinking and freaking out about how awkward and un-bridey I'm gonna be on the day lol. Just have to stay in that perfect "zone" of focus and not wobble out either side 😂

    First, I don't know how I missed that you put this video up last week. Second, AAAAHHH!! You mentioned mentioned your video! I was doing blackwork while watching until you said my name and my jaw hit the floor! Third, bring on the wedding talk! It's therapeutic and who knows who you might help! For my wedding, we made the favors, invitations, thank yous and thousands of paper stars that were used as table decorations. The stars are now in a plastic tub in our closet waiting to be used again. You've got this! It will all come together! I'm also going it have to look into this 100 days project. Maybe it would help me keep up with the 3 SALs, 3 blackwork projects and 2 cross stitch projects I've got going on.

      @TheGiddyStitcher  Рік тому +1

      Lol I live for freaking people out by mentioning their names in videos 💅
      It makes me a bit sad that we're not doing the sort of thing that needs all the paper invitations etc because I literally used to design them for a living so that would've been fun. Seems like a popular thing to DIY, too, judging by the other comments! The paper stars sound adorbs, love a good bit of origami but again we're just not doing the sort of thing that needs it. Maybe for our ten year anniversary party 😉

    I feel so seen!! Haven't touched the macrame yet but it's definitely going to happen!
    Best of luck with your wedding crafting! I made the napkins for mine 12 years ago. I bought a boatload of white cotton, cut it to size (pinked the edges), then dyed them a few different colors. It felt very picnic-y and I made a quilt out of the leftovers after the wedding.

    • @TheGiddyStitcher
      @TheGiddyStitcher  Рік тому

      Ooh that sounds fun! And very you to make something that could be reused! Honestly no idea when I'm gonna get round to the macrama either, most of my plans were hatched before we suddenly decided to do the wedding thing. But it will happen! Maybe it's more of a summer activity anyway...

    I usually watch UA-cam on my tv and thus totally forget to use my phone to comment on videos. But today I wanted to remember to come on and say congratulations!! I would love to see a wedding dress video. I made our order of services, invites, table signs and even cross stitched little name tags for each persons place (almost ran out of time for this one!!). I also melted chocolate and reset it in heart moulds to make little heart chocolate favours. My wedding was definitely the best day of my life 😊 xx

      I do this literally all the time and am the worst commenter so no worries lol, thank you! I really wanted to try and cross stitch something but because it's such a little, casual event couldn't really think of anything. The name tags sound stressful but a lot more interesting for people than the normal cardboard ones! Glad you had such an amazing time, I think our wedding day will struggle to be the best, I mean, we did go to Green Bay that one time after all. But you never know 😂

  • @x-stitchandchill
    @x-stitchandchill Рік тому

    I love how you keep saying. you are too lazy to take things out of the hoop and such. That speaks to me... I'm the same way! I actually did a lot of wedding crafts myself along with my mom who had most of the tools and things. I made a lot of the paper crafts, so menu, invitations, place cards, boxes for favors. It was so long ago (13 years) that I'm not sure if I remember being too stressed. I do remember toward the end when the little twine bows were misbehaving that our mantra became "it's all going to end up in the trash anyways", so I'm not sure if that helps you or not!
    But it's your wedding! You do whatever you want! I think it all sounds lovely and if it were me, I know I work better under pressure ;). Good luck!

    • @TheGiddyStitcher
      @TheGiddyStitcher  Рік тому

      Paper crafts seems like the most popular thing people have DIYed, for sure. Sadly we don't have anything like that so I don't get to flex those particular creative muscles, our invites were just a casual DM asking people if they're free on that date and want some free food. But plenty of other things to get on with, and you're right I actually kinda enjoy the pressure a bit but check back in like two weeks and I'm sure that'll change 😬

    I love that green sweater! I hope it turns out amazing for you but big baggy sweaters are also fun. Also, count me in for a wedding dress video! And I love that Novelette shawl thing. Before you said it was super chunky, I shouted "white mohair!!" at the screen. In the brown, it doesn't look very wedding-y but, in white, I think it would be lovely. I got married in Ontario, Canada, at the end of March, so I'm all about the wedding knitwear. I made nothing for my wedding so I'm of no use there, but I'm enjoying watching all your projects. If the crochet flowers falls through, I saw the most amazing antique broach bouquets that were amazing and wouldn't take much to put together (aside from collecting the broaches).

    • @TheGiddyStitcher
      @TheGiddyStitcher  Рік тому

    I discovered your channel not too long ago, and am very much enjoying going back through the videos I missed, and learning lots! I also love watching your videos because of how you remind me that it’s okay that sometimes looking after mental health (and sometimes my physical health lol) can mean not doing any projects for a while, and that’s ok. Don’t know why I need that validation, but I seem to, so thanks! I’ve recently acquired 4 full-coverage kits, which it’s been years since I’ve done one, and in anticipation I’ve been researching the “parking method”. You mentioned going back to cross-country for your autumn project, but I’d be interested in your take on either or both of these approaches maybe sometime? Your tone and tempo (if that makes sense?) work so great for my brain and general well-being that I’d love it if you did one someday on that/those!

    It really is so cute! I love the contrasting pockets! Proud of you for chilling when you needed to - don't want you to burn out on youtubing! Also a little jealous, considering I had the _brilliant_ plan to sew (and film) my first garment - a coat, no less - while preparing for a 2000 mile cross country move. Not my wisest moment. 😅 I'm also laughing so hard because I basically made the same, yet opposite mistake on my coat. I also had extra fabric across the back, but it was because there WAS supposed to be a center back seam but I didn't want one. But instead of the easy fix, I still steadfastly refused to put that seam in and did all kinds of workarounds.
    Wedding content isn't something I seek out, but I love when my favorite youtubers incorporate their big milestones in their content, and honestly wedding stuff will be a refreshing change from the dozen channels I've watched move into new houses. Oh, and I'm especially interested in the crochet flowers. I've been thinking about trying some at some point.

    I just found you from your latest video and I'm backtracking. I can watch crafty wedding content FOREVER. For our 2003 wedding, I made my dress, my flower girls' dresses, my David's and his sons' waistcoats, the puddings and sauce for the reception, the invitations, the four tier wedding cake and brunch for 30 the next day. My mother is a florist and did all the flowers and my sister sang me down the aisle. Don't be like me! To be fair, I had a bridal shop in the days when we made everything from scratch so I was used to it all, and I am pretty Extra. It was more stressful dealing with a couple of D's extended family members turning toxic, than all of that and I did have friends help with some of the jobs like invites and making petals for our flower girls. It was magical, but honestly a wedding should reflect the people getting married and their self expression, and as you found out from all those toxic and unhelpful articles, that's not how the industry works!

      Also…. Now I’ve watched the last couple of minutes…. Wedding crafts - you had to ask!
      Takes deep breath….
      When David and I got married we:
      -made all our own invitations etc
      -made home made fudge as our wedding favours (whole story there for another time - there’s an idea….)
      - made the boxes for the fudge
      - decorated the cake my Mum baked for us
      - made my bouquet and my bridesmaid’s (our daughter)
      And Yikes, yes, that’s was hard work but so much fun.
      First time I married, I just made the invites - but my Mum made my wedding dress, 8 bridesmaid/flower girl dresses, flowers and wings for the flower girls, head dresses for all, and made and iced the cake. And after all that declared she was bored and stitched a big cross stitch for me. She was 70 at the time…. 😱

      @TheGiddyStitcher  Рік тому +1

      Oh wow that is a whole other level! How long do you have? Having a variety of flowers was my original plan as well but tbh with the very limited time and the knowledge that this is a tiny ceremony situation where I'll probably hold the bouquet for all of about 30 seconds, sticking with all the same flower in different colours just seemed way more sensible. Not to be a total enabler but have you seen the realistic flower patterns from Happy Patty Crochet? If we'd had more time I would TOTALLY be going down that route 👀

      @@TheGiddyStitcher the wedding is Nov. 4, so I have quite a bit of time. If I end up running out of time, having all one type of flower is the backup plan, which would be totally fine by me. But since I have the extra time, I wanted to try. A good majority of the patterns are from the book Kawaii Crochet Garden by Melissa Bradley, I'm just omitting the faces on the flowers and also putting them on some floral wire. I haven't seen the realistic flower patterns you mentioned, but definitely worth checking out! Congrats on your wedding by the way! I totally admire the fact that you're also making your wedding dress!
      Btw, also wanted to add that I just discovered your channel over the weekend and I'm loving your videos! I'm also a multicrafter, so everything you say is very relatable 🙂

      @@smb826 Aw yay, congrats too you too! I forgot to say that part but was definitely thinking it, haha 🤦‍♀️ Welcome to the channel in that case and since we only have about 4 weeks to go now, normal video schedule should resume shortly.
      November is definitely enough time to make cool things! Or at least, to have a few false starts without having to stress too much about lost time. You're gonna smash it. We're BOTH gonna smash it! 💪

    You know I would love to see whatever you want to share. I have that pattern that is reminiscent of Disc World. Haven't started it yet. Where can you get officially licensed Discworld patterns? Good luck with the wedding.

      By the time I'm ready to buy and start that one maybe you'll have got your WIPs under control and we can start it together 😄 You can find the patterns at www.lyndisfarne.com, if you check under the "catalogue" menu at the top there are three pages of licensed Discworld ones. Definitely something I want to do at some point but it can wait until life is a bit more calm I think!

      Ah thank you so much! Those are "magnetic cable ties", I got my specific ones from Amazon but honestly if you just google that phrase you'll find tons of the things. They're not super strong so you need quite a few to hold anything but they make great needle minders as a bonus feature!

    I accidentally found a free jumpsuit pattern you might like. It was in a video by The Yorkshire Sew Girl about #SewFrugal23 challenge at about 14:30. It’s the Phoebe Freebie by Pattern Union.
    At first glance, it’s a full length jumpsuit with a sort of halter neck, BUT it comes with hacks for both the top and bottom, including shorts!
    Not sure if it’s always free or only for March/SewFrugal23.

      That's like, the perfect cruise jumpsuit! Thank you! I've not been keeping up with anyone's SewFrugal plans this year because I can't play with them and am jealous. But maybe I'll do some catching up in case of other freebies. Excellent reminder!

      Lol imagine if I said "well actually this is my seventeenth time" 😂
      But no, you're right, I get in my head, I will attempt to chill a bit! Also that's a spicy and confident take on Voyager, I do like their song but can't get over the fact that it's just not as good as Dreamer was. Still, most people voting will never have heard that and they do put on an excellent live show so fingers crossed for a good result!
