The official name for the Irish state is Ireland, not the Republic of Ireland or Southern Ireland. Andrew Maxwell is very funny and right about so much. Watching him on the panel back in the day was a joy.
Really!! The official name in my part is Northern Ireland. So…. You have cottoned on that the NORTH is Donegal. Please show respect for us and we will return it.
"It felt biological" and got cured by a month in Australia... that's vitamin D deficiency, probably. Depression is a symptom of many biological conditions, including vitamin D deficiency.
The British Conservative version of history tries to make the British population believe that the British Empire was 'glorious' -- because it is their Officers & Generals who run the British army, it is they who give the orders that their working class soldiers (whom they hate) must follow ; in any country that 'Britain' has ever invaded, India, Africa, China, Ireland, the natives are always portrayed as savages, terrorists. 'Britain' ( i.e., the Brit Establishment ) solemnly promised to get out of Ireland, leave, go for good, if Irish men fought in the British army in WW1 -- they later reneged on that promise and set up the British Empire Colony of N.Ireland. The working class people who support the Conservatives are mindless idiots, people who have never been taught to respect themselves -- " Love (respect) thy neighbour as thy respect ( love) thyself".
Absolutely they are mindless but it suits them to associate with a perceived power centre. It makes them feel superior. Of course it's relative and not real. Reality comes in times of stress and crisis when the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves are tested.
He's upset that people refer to Ireland as Southern Ireland, but people in Ireland repeatedly refer to Northern Ireland as 'the north' so reflect on your own behaviour, Andrew.
@@jmcc8156 Oh hang on you mean the GFA. Thats was 1998 btw. Rightly and legally being two different things, GFA is seen as a win to nationalists because of the border poll option and a democratic route to reunification. They just had to put the feet up and wait with demographics and all sorts of factors changing every year as was expected. If that wasnt in the agreement the war would have continued. Democracy is only fair and thats what was voted for.
@@jonathanboland7962 Yes, but my point is that there should be a stop to all the chat about stolen 6 counties, partition etc because things have moved on. Only a border poll will change that, so unless and until that happens, people should stop pretending the GFA did not have more than one objective.
Lol. 'Leaving the EU will never happen', said Andrew on 11 June 2019. Then came 31 January 2020. Sadly the current COVID-19 experience has shown the weakness of the EU, and how each member state (naturally) looks to provide for its citizens first, and the EU has failed it. Andrew has failed to understand the reasons behind Brexit, but it is now on full display.
I worked in B&Q Head Office in Hampshire and the Republic of Ireland was "Southern Ireland" with SI as it's abbreviation. When I pointed out their mistake, they thought it was quite funny. None of them had been to Ireland, though they did like me and I liked them. They were more used to Bangladeshis and Pakistanis in their offices, so an Irish lad like me would always be easily welcomed. Irish people think Ireland is a big deal, but it's a tiny island on the edge of Europe. No one cares. The UK has ten times the population. They don't care. The sooner we understand our place, the better.
Most likeable and entertaining! Andrew Maxwell demonstrates that standup comedians - even those who haven’t gone through the universities (both of them, as “Yes Minister” said) - do have a clear & perceptive mind. On Brexit he is the first, in the long series of videos I have viewed, to have said the obvious but taboo : that England, by Brexiting, shall instantly pass from a position of partner in trade towards the EU to that of an adversary. Another interesting statement is the demographic nature of the Exit/Remain divide. Let’s hope that Andrew Maxwell’s prediction (that the UK will leave only to return in ten years time) may come true. But that presupposes that the Europeans won’t be tempted by some “UK bashing” of their own, since what the EU need to go towards a « closer & better union » is a common adversary. Russia is a bit too dangerous, and Britain would be quite convenient for the purpose... Let’s hope that the EU will resist the temptation. A final comment for Andrew Maxwell : the brogue is OK, the speed is OK, but both are a bit too much for a non-native speaker of english. Clarity of elocution would go miles towards your international appeal! _.
@@Kitiwake I am still right... There is a subtly to that act that does not prescribe the name, 'Republic of Ireland, but mere that our state be described as a Republic. The official names of the state are, 'Eire', and, 'Ireland'.... Feel free to check it.

Sadly Andrew's prediction on the UK General election was utterly wrong.
I find it glorious how many of the Irish commentators got it so wrong.
In fairness lads, they know even less about Northern Ireland.
He's upset that people refer to Ireland as Southern Ireland, but people in Ireland repeatedly refer to Northern Ireland as 'the north' so reflect on your own behaviour, Andrew.
Thats because we know its rightly our land because of the illegal partition nearly 100 years ago.
@@jonathanboland7962 Well you shouldn't have voted to enforce partition in 1988, should you?

Christian Fournier We don’t want the U.K. to rejoin the EU, we want to leave with no deal and stay out.
Strangely enough I love Andrew's comedy but here he could have been talking about Biden

The country is called 'Ireland' or 'Éire' -- 'Republic of Ireland' is a purely FIFA term.
Except for the Republic of Ireland Act 1949 you would be right.
