Super tutorial. The cheesecloth is an excellent idea. I was straining it just with the mesh. Just a reminder to not use lemon essential oils in plastic as it leaches the chemicals from the plastic. Glass is the way to go. Again thanks so much for this detailed tut
For my shampoo I like to add amla powder, neem powder, and tea tree oil. I have scalp psoriasis so it helps relief my scalp. My hair looks so healthy using this I'm so happy my friend recommended this to me. I saw her with her African soap and it was so wierd to me I asked her what it was and she said oh you should try it! Best advice someone has ever given me. She showed me how she uses it what to avoid I'm really happy with it.
Wow. I have amla and neem. How much use it? I have oily scalp and I don’t know that video with 3 kind of oil is good for me or not, but I’m sure yours is great
For people who keep leaving funky comments that essential oils can't be used as a preservative, #1, I did my research before making the video and #2 here is the link below for your own edification in case you are too busy to do your own research. When making your own diy product from this video if you have concerns: 1) Use purified water (I used tap water-used purified) 2) You can use a different non toxic preservative 3) Make small batches (i.e. use within 1-2 weeks and keep refrigerated) 4) Store your diy skin care product in a dark glass bottle: amzn.to/3typ1po 5) Use organic essential oils There is a big community of people who make diy skincare products and there are plenty of blogs, videos, and books on how to do it. Some book for you to check out if you would like to learn more on how to make diy beauty products. 1) Natural Skin Care at Home: How to Make Organic Moisturizers, Masks, Balms, Buffs, Scrubs, and Much More: amzn.to/3z41k9B 2) The Big Book of Homemade Products for Your Skin, Health and Home: Easy, All-Natural DIY Projects Using Herbs, Flowers and Other Plants: amzn.to/3EdeR2z 3) Make It Up: The Essential Guide to DIY Makeup and Skin Care: amzn.to/2X8k9LA Again, here is the info from the US National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health. Hence, they actually did a study and tested their findings: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3626961/ But to sum it up for you: "Summarizing, examined extracts and essential oils inhibit the growth of microorganisms more firmly than methylparaben. Therefore they can be recommended as effective candidate for natural cosmetic preservatives. Addition to cosmetic formula the appropriate concentrations and mixtures of essential oils and extracts may let for replace the synthetic preservatives as methylparaben, at the same time giving a guarantee of microbiological purity of the cosmetic product under its use and storage." I appreciate you watching my video! The above links are affiliate links accept the link to the NCBI.
Oh Lord finally somebody doing a DIY simple and cheap... as struggling how much oils and whatever products people put to their stuffs. Like i'm not ready to spend so much money on products... thank u soooo much for this simple and effectiv video :)
Essential oils are not preservatives. You need a preservative like Germall Plus. You also need to check the percentage allowed of each essential oil. There are maximums.
Actually, they can be used as a preservatives. I did my research before posting and added previous links. Many people who make natural beauty products use all kinds of essential oils, but the products have to be used quickly because the shelf life is not as long as beauty products with chemicals, additives, or harmful preservatives. But thanks for the info about Germal Plus.
My face has been clear for a very long time using A.B. Soap, better than the average acne soap on the market. Now I have to work on my arms and back getting clear especially for summer.
Girl how do you do it I have bought African soap about 2 weeks ago and I’m not really seeing any results should I melt the soap like pls give me tips on how to get rid of the dark spots I feel very ugly
@@jerdinelouis6252 What I do is shave the bar soap and place it in a glass jar with spring water, let it dissolve thoroughly and I add jojoba oil, rosehip seed oil, or almond oil and add about 4-5 drops of tea tree oil for antifungal properties which helps with acne.
@@jerdinelouis6252 You can heat it up and stir to dissolve it thoroughly but let it cool off then add oil. You can add vitamin e oil (at least 5-7 drops if it's about a cup)
Great video! Few years ago but wanted to mention, for the safety of others was that essential oils are not preservatives, neither is vitamin e alone. It does add a botanical and antioxidant benefit to the product itself but in no way stabilizes its shelf life. Water or humid environment increase bacteria and thus needs a proper preservative. Max I’d say you can use for a few days. Also search for comedogenic ratings of oils, everyone’s skin is different and not all oils work the same.
I've had a really nasty eczema flair up on both my hands for the past few months. I purchased some african black soap and just diluted it with water in a little bottle. Been using that as hand soap along with some shea butter as a lotion. In just 2 weeks my hands went from painfully cracked and itchy to minimal scarring. It's amazing
Very Helpful and Detailed for , the Entire Body. I started making my own home, hair and body products. I use coconut oil and aloe gel for my hair - black raw soap with peppermint for my hair & clove and ginger mouth gargle . Your video just encouraged , me to continue my Natural Journey . A'she Sista 👊👁
Awesome video, simple recipes! I do have to say though that essential oils don't provide adequate preservation of a water based soap like this and should definitely go in the fridge and be used within a few days!
Thank You for sharing...i have been buying raw african black soap for 2yrs now and this is an awesome way to use instead of just cutting one inch thick slices..😉😘😘
You're welcome! I haven't been using it for as long as you have, but I did noticed an improvement with breakouts after a couple of months. Plus, I digging the whole "use natural products" thing, so I'm glad my sister put me on to ABS. Thank you for taking the time to watch my video!
@Simone Caston-For the life of me, I can't seem to find your comment to reply. When you say "add raw shea butter to the soap," you mean to the soap itself, or to one of the washes or shampoo? Only thing about the raw shea butter is that it can be melted down to its oil form, but once it cools, it will solidify again. So it probably won't work for any of the washes; especially if you refrigerate them. However, you can use the shea butter as a face/body moisturizer, and use as an oil for your hair (although some fine shea butter too heavy for the hair). I use the shea butter as a DIY whipped body butter (which I'm filming soon) for my face. At other times I use either olive oil or grapeseed oil for my face (like when I do facial massages) and for my body.
Wonderful video. I'm doing some research on going all natural for my skin care routine, and your video has been very detailed and informative. Keep up the good work!
WOW!! My video has hit over 100,000 views! THANK YOU VIEWERS! Since the video is doing so well, I wrote an ebook how I was able to get rid of my cystic acne. More info is in the description box. If you are a writer, UA-cam content creator, or a business owner and you are thinking about writing an ebook, check out my video "How to Create an eBook" ua-cam.com/video/Rr-sjkVnZOw/v-deo.html. Since this does not contain preservatives, I would try to use the body wash within two weeks. Try to keep refrigerated if possible or if anything, make small batches.
Trey Bridges my sister told me she saw videos where people added Xanthan Gum. You can add that to both the shower gel and the shampoo. If you're going to make large quantities, you can probably start out with 1 tbsp. If you're making a small batch, you can start with 1/2 tsp and see how you like the thickness. I haven't tried it, but maybe I'll use it the next time. Thank you for watching my video!
It's fine if the tea tree oil is used on your body if you use it as an ingredient for your body wash; especially if you have back acne. Just be sure to dilute the tea tree oil with a carrier oil like olive or jojoba, because applying it directly on the skin can cause a chemical burn.
I know this video is old. I always make my African black soap shampoo but I hate that its so thin. What do u think abt adding arrowroot as a natural thickener or do I have to use gums?
I never used arrowroot, but if it can thicken the soap, I say give it a try and see how you like it. I also heard that one can add xanthum gum. I haven't tried that either, but my sister said she saw some girls use that in their videos for their soap. If you try either one of these, let me know what you think and how much you used. Thanks for checking out my video!
Helpful video, thanks a lot. Is that shampoo good for oily scalp? What you suggest for dandruff? Is PH for that face wash ok? Did you say essensial oils work as a preservative? How long we can keep it. Sorry too many questions
If you have oily skin, it should be fine, but then again that all depends how oily your scalp gets and how frequently you wash your hair. You may need to use a clarifying shampoo at least once per month. For the dandruff, that's a skin issue that you may need to use medicated shampoo or see your dermatologist to prescribe you medicated shampoo depending on how bad your dandruff is. I don't know what the PH is and I don't know your skin issues. The soap can be drying, which is why I add a little oil to the wash. If you have acne, you have to be careful about getting your skin squeaky clean because it strips your face of oil and your skin will actually produce more oil. This can clog your pores, which can lead a breakout and more acne. The essential oil can be used as a preservative, but only make small batches and keep refrigerated. This does not have the shelf life like other cleansers that use chemicals and preservatives from prevents bacteria from growing.
Great research and experimentation! What are your thoughts on using the body wash formula to treat a severe case of athletes foot? I prefer to use natural remedies vs synthesized/chemical.
I always recommend making small batches and if possible, keep refrigerated. Since it's hard to measure the shelf life of DIY skincare products, I would suggest making a new batch after 2-3 weeks to be on the safe side.
I have oily and acne prone skin. Right now, I moisturize with shea butter and Tula's Moisture Hydrating Day & Night Cream. You can read more about my day and night skincare routine on my blog to keep my skin clear: www.tanisanadira.net/acne-treatment-morning-and-night-skincare-routine/. Thanks for watching my video!
No. There's isn't a foaming agent added to the mix. It's in a liquid form. If you don't want the wash to be watery, you can always just use the bar of soap as is. You can cut it into 1/4 inch slices and store the rest away until later use.
Thank you for this diy. I am also looking to start making my own acne/shampoo using African black soap. I have not seen anyone else drain the liquid of the hard pieces. I will definitely do this when I get my soap. Thanks from a new subbie.
Nee hardy you're welcome! It was all my sister's idea to drain the soap after that gritty stuff scratched her face. I guess it's not noticeable when using the actual bar itself on your face and body, but if you melt it...yuck!
That's the leftover ingredients in the African Black soap, which is made up of burned ash from locally harvested African plants and barks such as cocoa pods, shea tree bark, palm tree leaves, and plantain skins. My twin sister came up with the idea to strain the black soap because she didn't like the grittiness in her bottled mixture. And if you are using it on your face, you definitely don't want any of that grit to cut your skin. I thought it was a great idea!
It depends how often you will use it. Anytime you make DIY skincare products, you have to be mindful about bacteria and microorganisms. As a result, if you make a larger batch, I would use distilled water because it has been purified. I would also use glass containers and not plastic if you plan on long storage. DIY skincare is really popular, but do more research to keep your products safe.
I don't know how to make soap, but it's possible. See if you can find videos how to make soap where you can use mixture. I believe there may be extra ingredients you have to add.
Awesome video thank you. Any suggestions on a natural moisturizer after using the face treatment? I have read that oils can clog pores, and not recommended to be in moisturizers. What are your thoughts, because everything you read has two opinions.
Thanks for watching my video! Surprisingly, I've actually read that oils can help prevent acne. Check out "oil cleansing method" videos. I don't use oils to clean my face, but I do use oils to do facial massages and I use shea butter as moisturizer (I melt it and add olive oil and castor oil). I'll admit, using shea butter is a little tricky during the summer when it's so hot out. During the warm months, you might want to use a lightweight moisturizer and something that's more natural. I'm still looking for one myself. My sister recently did made a shea butter whip. I used it on my face this morning and thought it was cool (I might make a video on that after she shows my how to make it).
You can buy it online on Amazon amzn.to/2l9QJXb (affiliate link) or you can purchase it at your local beauty supply that carries hair products that mainly cater to ethnic hair.
Thanks! You leave the soap in the boiled water until it melts. If you want, you can mix the soap around in the water to help it melt faster. Also, using thin slices instead of big chunks will get it to melt faster as well.
SharkAcademy Not sure how one can "cook" soap when some of the ingredients in the making of the African Black Soap are cooked or burned, and sometimes added to water to bring it to a boil (depending on which country one is from and how they make the soap). Otherwise, to make the acne was, etc., how would you melt the soap? Also, you're not eating the soap as with eating raw foods by not cooking it so it's in its natural "raw" state. The "raw" regarding the soap means artificial ingredients like perfumes, coloring, harsh chemicals etc. are not added. Therefore, I'm not quite following your logic. However, if you wish to use room temperature water, by all means do so if that works best for you :)
It looks like that is a brand who makes ABS, so I can't see why you can't use it. As long as there aren't any artificial ingredients, that should be fine. Thanks for watching my video!
Itai- my sister said she saw videos where people used Xanthan Gum. I haven't tried it yet. I guess I got used to the watery consistency. But you can add the Xanthan Gum to both the shower gel and the shampoo. If you're going to make large quantities, you can probably start out with 1 tbsp. If you're making a small batch, you can start with 1/2 tsp and see how you like the thickness. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching my video!
It's hard to measure the shelf life of DIY skincare products because it does not contain chemicals that prevent bacteria and microorganisms. As I mentioned to another viewer, I would use distilled water if you plan to make large batches or have your products stored for a long time. Also, I would use glass containers. Otherwise, it's ideal to make small batches.
From what I understand, adding the essential oils should help the soap last longer and not get moldy. Otherwise, without the essential oils, it should be kept in the refrigerator. I went through my body wash fairly fast. The face wash lasted me a few weeks, and I still have some shampoo left. If anything, you can make small batches for all three, which is suggested, or make one small bottle and use as a multi-purpose beauty product. Also, if you want, you can just cut a piece of the African black soap and use it as is when you shower and for your face. You can use if for your hair too. I've seen videos of people actually taking a cut piece of soap and rubbing it on their hair until it lathers. I tried that before, but found I like using the liquid form of the African black soap better. Hope this helps and thanks for watching my video!
Tanisa Nadira what about if I'd buy a liquid African Black Soap ? And can I use it with a bathgloves? And about the body lotion that I can use after the body wash with a liquid African Black Soap?? *Thank you for the **_Video_*
Sorry I overlooked this reply. If you buy a liquid ABS and the ingredients on the bottle are natural, it should be totally fine and can definitely be used with bath gloves. If the ingredients are not natural and that's a concern for you, you can always buy the ABS and use it "as is" as a bar soap without having to make the body wash. However, sometimes the bar soap gets really crumbly and will break apart quickly, so one tip is to slice it down in 1/4 inch pieces and use that way. As for the lotion, again, if you are looking for something that's more natural, I like using shea butter (you can to make it into a DIY body butter that's like a lotion) or use a body oil like coconut oil, olive oil, grape seed oil, etc.
Soo I was in the shower when this idea popped into my head and decided to look on youtube to see if anybody had the same idea....literally as soon as she said strain out the soap to remove abrasives I found a rock the size of a quarter in the bar I was using to shower with.
You know, I honestly never paid attention to that. I have noticed that part of the mixture gets lighter, so maybe that's the separating part. I usually shake up my mixture because of the oils I add since oil and water don't mix. However, I don't think there is anything to worry about. DIY beauty products don't work the same as store bought products, which have chemicals and preservatives to give them a longer shelf life. As a result, it's best to make DIY beauty products in smaller batches.
Kim Johnson I let it just sit there until all the soap dissolves in the water. However in general, after 20 minutes or so, the water should have cooled down enough for you to safely handle. You can stir the the soap around to help it dissolve a little quicker in the hot water. Hope that helped and thanks for watching!
Since this is a DIY skincare product that don't contain chemicals and preservatives, I would make small batches and use within 2-3 weeks. If you make the shampoo and it's a lot, try keeping it in the refrigerator.
The African Black Soap can be a bit drying. If you want, you can add a bit of a light oil to it like olive oil or sesame oil to the face wash. I just made more last night and added olive oil. It's safe to use everyday, but if you have a lot of acne and are concerned about trying new products, you can start by using the ABS every two days, then every other day, and then daily. Gradually build up to it. That's what I did. And you can use other cleansers, but I would be careful about using cleansers for acne that may be harsh and drying on your skin. I know my skin can get a bit sensitive to products, so you would have to know your own skin to determine if your face can handle using multiple products. If anything, you can use one in the morning and then one at night. With the ABS, there is no need to do a vigorous wash on your face (or with any cleanser for the matter) as that can aggravate existing acne, but more importantly, can cause your skin to dry out. This will produce more oil on your face, which can then lead to more acne. I only wash my face in the morning with the ABS (a quick few seconds) and then at night, I use my DIY Tea Tree Toner to wipe my face with a cotton ball. Again, I'm not trying to strip my face of all oil completely that could dry out my skin, just enough to wipe away the surface dirt. I've seen a lot of improvement on my face when I started doing this. Hope this helps!
For the body wash you didn't explain in detail about using the extra virgin olive oil. You just said 10 drops of oil. 10 drops of castor oil or olive oil?
CASOFOE you can add any amount you want honestly. Some people may choose to skip adding an oil all together. But for the wash, I added 1/2 teaspoon of each, but again you can add more or less. Thank you for taking the time to watch my video!
Try the body wash or just use the ABS, but you may have to visit a dermatologist for that since I am not a doctor. However, I did see a video (can't find it) of this guy who had this probably and he started to drink fruit smoothies. He claimed it cleared up his back acne. If you try this, don't use milk products. I don't drink milk anymore, only almond milk, or eat yogurt, and it made a huge difference in my acne. I still eat cheese and ice cream, but in small portions. Overall, do an investigation on what products you use and what foods you eat (like diary), and keep a diary to spot what could be causing the body acne. That's what I did when I had the cystic acne problem.
What does the honey do for your hair or even the shampoo? I see people use honey for deep conditioning but don't know the benefits of it being on the scalp/ in hair. I'll do some research but also want to know how it makes the shampoo a little extra special
If you add the essential oils, it doesn't have to be refrigerated. However, if you think you are not going to use the product very often, then be sure to make small batches. Thank you for watching my video!
Hello! I stumbled on ur youtube page to learn how to make natural shampoo using Black soap and i will definitely try it. Ive been natural almost 3 years and trying to grow my hair and its still at the same length. Do you have any suggestions or tips please. And also i realize we have the same name but its spelt "taneisa". Amazing. Great Tutorial. 😊
Everyone's skin reacts differently, so I can't say if it's bad or good for sensitive skin. However, if you have sensitive skin, I would recommend doing a patch test first on a small side of your face (like maybe by the chin area) and see how your skin reacts to it. Do this with all skin care products if you have a history of breaking out easily. If you know of someone who already has the African black soap bar, ask if they can cut a slice for you to test out instead of you having to buy a whole bar. If you do decide to buy African black soap online or at a store, just be sure to check the return policy on skin care products in case you need to return it. Hope this helps!
Lady promise I never heard or tried that soap. However, it looks like there are good reviews about it on Amazon. Check out the reviews and see if you can find videos about it.
I recommend looking at your diet first? Are you consuming a lot of diary? People with acne are a bit more prone to breakouts if you take in too much dairy. Next, check you skincare routine. Are you washing your face too much? People with acne typically have oily skin and washing your face too much actually causes the sebaceous glands to over produce more oil that can lead to clogged pores and of course, pimples. Lastly, stop touching your face and don't let anyone or anything touch your face because the dirt and bacteria from people/objects can clog your pores and can cause pimples. I wrote 2 ebooks about how to get rid of acne/cystic acne if interested. A lot more detailed info is there. "A Skincare Guide to Preventing Cystic Acne" www.tanisanadira.net/ClearSkin and "The Best 21 Tips to Prevent Acne" www.tanisanadira.net/PreventAcneBreakouts. Otherwise, watch my acne video playlist for more tips: ua-cam.com/play/PL1I1mcKV4rOoPfuLoj2houvFDe_av5S4E.html. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
Sorry for the delayed replied. Lol, yes I forgot to film adding the oil to the body wash. I caught that in editing, but glad I displayed the ingredients before making it.
I think anywhere from 1/2 teaspoon to a teaspoon should be cool. Or...you can eyeball it. That's what I do-lol. One can pretty much add as little oil or as much oil as he/she wants or choose not to use an oil at all. Try it with an oil and see if you like it. If you don't want to add an oil or essential oil to the wash, which helps to act as a preservative to prevent the wash from going bad, just be sure to keep the body wash refrigerated. Otherwise, if you don't want to keep it refrigerated or add an oil, make small batches of the body wash. Thanks for taking the time to watch my video!
I already answered another comment about this and yes essential oils can be used as a preservative. Studies have been done to show (I read the whole study online by doing a simple Google search) how essential oils can be used to make natural skin care products that don't use preservatives and additives to prevent the buildup of bacteria. Hence, why it is important to make small batches, keep refrigerated, and use distilled water because the self life is short.
My channel, sure! It works for all hair type. It's just a natural soap. Adding an oil to the shampoo like olive, grapeseed, or sesame oil is optional. And of course you can add whatever essential oil you like for scent or the benefits the oil offers.
Tanisa Nadira hi I've been using African soap for the last 3 months and it has given me pimples I don't know what to do please advise me on what to do?
Julie Diamond I say whenever you do something different and it breaks you out, to stop. You can either go back to your old facial cleanser or simply just wash your face with water for a few days. Also, be mindful if you started eating something different as well. If your diet is the same and the only thing you did different was the ABS, then stop using the soap. After a few days, if you want, you can make a DIY toner using Tea Tree Oil to clean your face. That's what I do at night. Watch some other videos or read articles about the benefits of Tea Tree Oil for acne/pimples and see if that's something you may want to try. I've had good results with managing my acne using the Tea Tree Oil. Hope this helps!!
You're welcome! I never tried their body wash, but I did try their shampoo off another UA-camr's recommendation. It was cool, but I rather save money making my own.
(This is rather late but) Shea Moisture African Black Soul isn't actual ABS. You can tell because ABS in its natural form is not actually black! As seen in this video. True ABS can be a variety of browns, but you should never find ABS to be black.
Mrlistenandlearn Yes, it’s perfectly fine to use daily for the majority or people. If you decide to not make the acne wash, you can simply use the bar soap as is with good results.
I'm sorry. I didn't see this comment and apologize for the delayed response. Essential oils can be used as a preservative when making natural products in small batches. Here are some links and info below. Also, please do your own research for your own edification. 1. National Center for Biotechnology Information, U.S. National Library of Medicine ACTUAL STUDY www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3626961/ "Summarizing, examined extracts and essential oils inhibit the growth of microorganisms more firmly than methylparaben. American College of Healthcare Sciences info.achs.edu/blog/the-amazing-use-of-essential-oils-as-natural-preservatives "Research groups are investigating essential oils as many of them have antioxidant properties and are powerful antibacterial and antifungal agents." 3. From Nature With Love www.fromnaturewithlove.com/library/preservatives.asp "According to Preservatives for Cosmetics by David C. Steinberg, essential oils that have demonstrated antimicrobial activity include caraway, cinnamon, clove, cumin, eucalyptus, lavender, lemon, rose, rosemary, sage, sandalwood and thyme. Unfortunately, the percentage required to adequately protect a product from microbial growth generally exceeds the recommendations for safe amounts of essential oils to use in skin care products."
Great response: Wisdom is knowledge. Essential oils and herbs are THE original preservatives. The chemical derivatives used in our hair and skin care products are degrading to our bodies. And still we rush to the Blue and Red stores to buy scientific experiments instead of taking time to formulate natural ingredients for our wellbeing. Keep it natural, simple and conscious sister. Peace for living holistic!
Thanks Dana! I would like to learn more about making my own natural products. For the most part, I already do so with my hair since it's natural. Next, I want to try out more DIY natural skin and body care products. Before I didn't think natural products were a big deal, but after a bad breakout with cystic acne, I started to pay more attention to the products I use. Natural products are definitely the way to go :)
I'm an American black. I don't manufacture the soap. I bought this from a black owned store. Besides, this is just one brand of African Black Soap. There are many others on the market that are labled "ABS." However, if you have a link to purchase ABS that you feel is the "real deal," then please share. Thx
Too vague for me! I would prefer if you were specific about the amounts you use and just say hey adjust to your needs... but I need a reference point to start from. But best wishes thanks!
At the 4:34, 5:02, and 5:32 mark, the amounts were mentioned. The only thing that I forgot to mention was the amount of the essential oil for the shampoo. And for all three, I stated that one can add more or less of the products according to their liking. Best of wishes to you too.
I say "to add more or less" in case some people think my amounts are too much. I've seen in other videos where people use only 5 drops of the essential oil. I know for the face wash, I sometimes add anywhere from 20-30 drops of the Tea Tree Essential oil. Either way, I don't think there is really a wrong way of doing it since it's a diy thing-lol. Thanks for checking out the video :)
Hmmm, I seemed to have forgotten to mention that in the video. You can opt to skip the olive oil or you can start with adding a 1/2 teaspoon and see how you like it.
I love this video.straight to the point.people are really charging 25-40$ for something u can make at home
Thank you! Definitely a cheaper way to go :)
Super tutorial. The cheesecloth is an excellent idea. I was straining it just with the mesh. Just a reminder to not use lemon essential oils in plastic as it leaches the chemicals from the plastic. Glass is the way to go. Again thanks so much for this detailed tut
Sammie Watson that's good to know! Been meaning to get the glass bottles too. And thanks for watching my video!!
Sammie Watson So glad I read this because I was about to grab a plastic bottle! Thanks girl! 🙌🏼
Glad you liked the video and thank you for taking the time to watch it!
Is there a particular cheesecloth? My cloth broke.
Glad it's working out for you! The amla and neem powder sound interesting. I'll check it out :)
Wow. I have amla and neem. How much use it? I have oily scalp and I don’t know that video with 3 kind of oil is good for me or not, but I’m sure yours is great
i really like how you were so explicit right in the beginning of all the things you need, both the ingredients and the things used in the process.
Thanks! And thank you for taking the time to watch my video :)
For people who keep leaving funky comments that essential oils can't be used as a preservative, #1, I did my research before making the video and #2 here is the link below for your own edification in case you are too busy to do your own research.
When making your own diy product from this video if you have concerns:
1) Use purified water (I used tap water-used purified)
2) You can use a different non toxic preservative
3) Make small batches (i.e. use within 1-2 weeks and keep refrigerated)
4) Store your diy skin care product in a dark glass bottle: amzn.to/3typ1po

"Summarizing, examined extracts and essential oils inhibit the growth of microorganisms more firmly than methylparaben. Therefore they can be recommended as effective candidate for natural cosmetic preservatives.
@@TanisaNadira there are natural preservatives also. It depends on what your making. Euxyl 910 is one.

@@jerdinelouis6252
You can heat it up and stir to dissolve it thoroughly but let it cool off then add oil.
Thank for the info!

How much olive oil do you use in the body wash?
You can try 1/2 teaspoon to see how you like it.

Since this does not contain preservatives, I would try to use the body wash within two weeks. Try to keep refrigerated if possible or if anything, make small batches.

Is there a way to thicken the body wash, maybe give it a gel-like consistency?
Trey Bridges my sister told me she saw videos where people added Xanthan Gum. You can add that to both the shower gel and the shampoo. If you're going to make large quantities, you can probably start out with 1 tbsp. If you're making a small batch, you can start with 1/2 tsp and see how you like the thickness. So when you use the tea tree for your acne, do you put it on your body as well or just your face?
It's fine if the tea tree oil is used on your body if you use it as an ingredient for your body wash; especially if you have back acne. Just be sure to dilute the tea tree oil with a carrier oil like olive or jojoba, because applying it directly on the skin can cause a chemical burn.

No. Coconut oil solidifies when it cools, so what won't work for this diy.
I know this video is old. I always make my African black soap shampoo but I hate that its so thin. What do u think abt adding arrowroot as a natural thickener or do I have to use gums?

Thanks for this video! I just purchased a block of the soap and will use the wash! Thanks for the help! Cheers!

My aunt told me years ago you must dry between your toes to avoid feet smells. Hope this helps.

Yes. That's why I do not recommend using coconut oil for this DIY.

Hi! I love this video. I was wondering how long can the acne wash last before it begins to spoil?

If I put it in a bottle with a pump will it foam up as I expect it to
I guess it's not noticeable when using the actual bar itself on your face and body, but if you melt it...yuck!
what was all that...stuff on the cheescloth and in the tub?
That's the leftover ingredients in the African Black soap, which is made up of burned ash from locally harvested African plants and barks such as cocoa pods, shea tree bark, palm tree leaves, and plantain skins. My twin sister came up with the idea to strain the black soap because she didn't like the grittiness in her bottled mixture. And if you are using it on your face, you definitely don't want any of that grit to cut your skin. I thought it was a great idea!
Tanisa Nadira most definitley!!

You're welcome! And thank you for checking out my video :)
If I make a large batch how long will it last in my fridge?
It depends how often you will use it. Anytime you make DIY skincare products, you have to be mindful about bacteria and microorganisms. As a result, if you make a larger batch, I would use distilled water because it has been purified. I would also use glass containers and not plastic if you plan on long storage. DIY skincare is really popular, but do more research to keep your products safe.
Tanisa Nadira thank you!

can we mold this back to hard bar soaps?
Tanisa Nadira jojoba oil?
Jojoba oil or any kind of light oil works. I have been meaning to try it for my hair to see if I like it better than using olive or coconut oil :)
also aloe vera or shea butter

I did everything but strain the soap. 😕
This is exactly what I've been looking for. Thank you for sharing!!!
You're welcome! Glad you liked the video and thanks for watching!
Great video! How long should I leave the black soap in boiled water?
Thanks! You leave the soap in the boiled water until it melts. If you want, you can mix the soap around in the water to help it melt faster. Also, using thin slices instead of big chunks will get it to melt faster as well.
The problem with boiling water is you’re cooking it so it’s no longer raw. I’ve seen it done with room temperature water.

How does it lather up? Is it watery and does it thicken up?
Itai- my sister said she saw videos where people used Xanthan Gum. I haven't tried it yet. I guess I got used to the watery consistency. But you can add the Xanthan Gum to both the shower gel and the shampoo. If you're going to make large quantities, you can probably start out with 1 tbsp. If you're making a small batch, you can start with 1/2 tsp and see how you like the thickness. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching my video!
Does anyone know the shelf life?
It's hard to measure the shelf life of DIY skincare products because it does not contain chemicals that prevent bacteria and microorganisms. As I mentioned to another viewer, I would use distilled water if you plan to make large batches or have your products stored for a long time. Also, I would use glass containers. Otherwise, it's ideal to make small batches.
Love this video. How long do all these products last? Do they have an expiration date after you dissolve the soap and add the different ingredients?

You’re welcome!
Does your liquid black soap separate after a while ? I make my own as well but i wanted to make sure it was normal for the mixture to separate
How long do you let the water cool
Kim Johnson I let it just sit there until all the soap dissolves in the water. However in general, after 20 minutes or so, the water should have cooled down enough for you to safely handle. You can stir the the soap around to help it dissolve a little quicker in the hot water. Hope that helped and thanks for watching!
How long does this keep?
Since this is a DIY skincare product that don't contain chemicals and preservatives, I would make small batches and use within 2-3 weeks. If you make the shampoo and it's a lot, try keeping it in the refrigerator.
how many times a week could I use the acne wash, and do I have to only use that? for example could I use other cleansers
Tanisa Nadira is it safe to use everyday? I use noxzema sometimes so should I stop and only use the acne wash THANK YOU :)
Can you melt and add shea butter to this soap? Thanks for the really helpful tutorial!
It's for moisturization.
Hi love your video but i have body acne which method should i use ...thanks have a nice day
Try the body wash or just use the ABS, but you may have to visit a dermatologist for that since I am not a doctor.
I add honey to mine
Oooh...I should try that!!
Thanks for the tip!

Is african black soap bad for sensitive skin

Kindly am looking for acne cure
I recommend looking at your diet first? Are you consuming a lot of diary? People with acne are a bit more prone to breakouts if you take in too much dairy.
Next, check you skincare routine. Are you washing your face too much? People with acne typically have oily skin and washing your face too much actually causes the sebaceous glands to over produce more oil that can lead to clogged pores and of course, pimples.
Lastly, stop touching your face and don't let anyone or anything touch your face because the dirt and bacteria from people/objects can clog your pores and can cause pimples.

Sorry for the delayed replied. Lol, yes I forgot to film adding the oil to the body wash. I caught that in editing, but glad I displayed the ingredients before making it.
how much oil goes in the body wash? wasn't mentioned in the video
Essential oils are not preservatives! Some are great as antioxidants, but not as a preservative.
Does this work only for "African hair type"? I have thin wavy hair would it work for me too?
My channel, sure! It works for all hair type. It's just a natural soap. Adding an oil to the shampoo like olive, grapeseed, or sesame oil is optional. And of course you can add whatever essential oil you like for scent or the benefits the oil offers.
amazing video!
Natural Theresa thank you very much!!
thanks so much
Tanisa Nadira hi I've been using African soap for the last 3 months and it has given me pimples I don't know what to do please advise me on what to do?
Thanks for the vid because the Shea Moisture body wash didn't do anything to me and it smells weird
Loved it
Thank you!!
Mine is to hard like stones
The soap?? It still should be able to melt down in you place it in hot water
Thank you yes i want to turn it nto a bar but couldent but glad i manage to turn it into liquid and super easy to use
Glad to hear it and you’re welcome!
Can you wash your face with it every day?
Mrlistenandlearn Yes, it’s perfectly fine to use daily for the majority or people. If you decide to not make the acne wash, you can simply use the bar soap as is with good results.
Thank you❤️
You're welcome!
Really nice video! Awh🙂
Thank you!! Glad you liked it!
Essential oils are not preservatives!
I'm sorry. I didn't see this comment and apologize for the delayed response. Essential oils can be used as a preservative when making natural products in small batches. Here are some links and info below. Also, please do your own research for your own edification.
1. National Center for Biotechnology Information, U.S. National Library of Medicine
ACTUAL STUDY
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3626961/
"Summarizing, examined extracts and essential oils inhibit the growth of microorganisms more firmly than methylparaben. Therefore they can be recommended as effective candidate for natural cosmetic preservatives. Addition to cosmetic formula the appropriate concentrations and mixtures of essential oils and extracts may let for replace the synthetic preservatives as methylparaben, at the same time giving a guarantee of microbiological purity of the cosmetic product under its use and storage."
2. American College of Healthcare Sciences
info.achs.edu/blog/the-amazing-use-of-essential-oils-as-natural-preservatives
"Research groups are investigating essential oils as many of them have antioxidant properties and are powerful antibacterial and antifungal agents."
3. From Nature With Love
www.fromnaturewithlove.com/library/preservatives.asp
"According to Preservatives for Cosmetics by David C.
Dana Hedges “wisdom is knowledge” that’s tautology :/
She never added the olive oil for the body wash🥴
I noticed the missed shot and provided the info in the description box.
Hello, Are you from Africa, A lot of African are saying that is not African soap?????
I'm an American black. I don't manufacture the soap. I bought this from a black owned store. Besides, this is just one brand of African Black Soap. There are many others on the market that are labled "ABS." However, if you have a link to purchase ABS that you feel is the "real deal," then please share. Thx
I'm from Ghana, West Africa. Here
black soap is mostly sold raw and unprocessed, these ones are refined and look a little different maybe that's why
Thank u st8 to the point!
You're welcome! And thank you for taking the time to watch my video!
great tutorial,,,but did i see a tooth in da black soap particles😂
LMAO!! In case there was, that's why we strain the soap.
Tanisa Nadira thanks I don’t know why but I just heard you can add more or less I’ll watch again.
I love this! #thuggizzlenaturalbarsoap #thuggizzlecares 0
Thank you!!
Did anybody else miss how much olive oil she used for the body wash????? I watched 2x...🤣
Hmmm, I seemed to have forgotten to mention that in the video. You can opt to skip the olive oil or you can start with adding a 1/2 teaspoon and see how you like it.
I thought I missed it too lol
