Have a 05 outback with the 2.5, it's just done 208k and the head gasket is starting to go, so after Christmas it will be an upgrade to a 08 outback with the 3.0 and 89k on the clock. First upgrade will be the exhaust system, new headers back. Love the sound and regret getting the 2.5 (but was best in my price range at the time and has towed well)
I just ripped all the heat shields off the front part of my exhaust. No more rattling. But I can see I too need new headers for extra boxer awesomeness!

@@scubarubanzaii the UK Spec B with AVCS in that engine was pretty damned quick, I used to bother Porsches with mine, they were the fastest accelerating car in their class and that's even with the permanent AWD having to turn 3 differentials and an extra pair of driveshafts :)
ScubaruBanzaii the 30d P1 vs the 30d p2 (aka the ez30r) is night and day. 30ish hp doesn't seem like a lot on paper but the engine has a completely different character
For N/A applications, sure. However the first gen EZ30 is a good choice for boost, as its integrated exhaust manifold flows well under boost. The EZ30R revision had external manifolds which are woeful, so need to be replaced for either application, and throw 10psi of boost and a manual transmission behind any h6, and they are a strong, streetable car. 280wkw is doable with a safe tune

Exhaust bolts are often rusted on, and impossible to do a good job. You will waste more time un-doing bolts than you're costing the customer by cutting off the old stuff.
@@jonodragicevich1286 Bit different when you specifically ask to retain the factory exhaust and they still cut it up. Never had a good experience with an exhaust shop. it's why I always buy bolt on exhausts.

Sorry but, a Flat Engine and a Boxer Engine is NOT the same ! I know Porsche on some posters and / or advertisements referred to itself as a flat engine, but they later took it back because it was misunderstood by advertising agencies that a flat engine and a boxer engine are not the same.
Yes actually a boxer and a flat engine are the same thing, what you are confused about is the difference between a conventional crankshaft and a flat plane crankshaft. All boxer motors use a flat plane crankshaft, it's really the only way to do it, however V engines can use both conventional style crankshafts(older American V8s) or flat plane crankshafts(Ferrari, new Ford Coyote 5.0 etc.)

@@paweslusarczyk1056so long as they're rated to 240/ 245bhp yes. The 3.0L Rs do, I'm almost certain all Mk4s have AVCS but the Mk3 didn't.

seems like the EJ25 (or better said every Subaru H4) can't sound exactly like this. You would need a EZ30 or EZ36 swap if you want a sound like this.

Must just be an exhaust shop thing, every shop i've ever seen is just so rough and always cuts stuff instead of unbolting it..

I recently did a Ez30 swap in my forester, it has an invidia 2-1 collector with an STI genome exhaust barrel and it sounds exactly the same way lol
