  • Big Muskie was a massive surface mining machine used in the late 1960s to early 1990s. It was so big that it could fit a small marching band inside its bucket! Today, all that remains of Big Muskie is its bucket, which is on display at Miners Memorial Park in the hills of Ohio.
In this video, we explore the world's largest drag-line bucket: Big Muskie's Bucket. We climb inside the bucket and imagine what it must have been like to operate this massive machine. We also learn about the history of Big Muskie and its role in the mining industry.

I saw the beast in action, 50-ish years ago. We'd stop and watch it (often sitting idle) on the way to Granny's house. Never got closer than 1/4 mile, could have been more, the thing was huge.

@@TravelwithAustin My father was obsessed with it. We came from a family of miners and oilmen.

The Big Muskie did not work the land where the bucket is now. The area that is now "The Wilds" drive-thru safari is the Big Muskie's strip mine.

Not so sure that is a 220 yard bucket. 2 Greyhound buses will not for in it..as reported in the past
