- I love the Universal Classic Monster movies, which just got a new release in this limited edition 'coffee table' book. These are my thoughts on this type of release and where the market is heading.

What are your thoughts on limited edition or 'special' packaging? Maybe you just prefer a standard case?

I have the blu ray set and it's perfectly fine. 4k is great in most cases, sure. But it taught us to be constantly unhappy and dissatisfied with what we've got. I need Barry Lyndon in 4k but I don't need to replace every single movie.
I have had my eyes on this on Ebay for a while, it really looks amazing and way more fun as a collectable than the two box-sets. This is way more than just the movies! Amazing!
This is fantastic. So tempted. I grew up on those movies.
I find the Universal Monster movies endlessly rewatchable!
What a wonderful display piece! I love the design and artwork captures the feeling of these film but from a very modern sensibility. I already have both those boxsets so I won't be splashing out on this, but I'm excited for others to get their hands on it. Thanks for the showcase 👍
Thanks for watching as always Sam!
I would have preferred the 1920's Lon Chaney Phantom over the Claude Rains remake but this is still pretty cool. It would look great sitting next to my somewhat similar gigantic Criterion Godzilla set!
Not having LCs Phantom is a travesty.
that is a beautiful set that looks stunning. that is what a limited ed set should be and good value based on the films involved
Yeah exactly. I love the new direction of the art!
I am tempted, but I already have the eight disc Blu-ray edition which includes both the English and Spanish cuts of 'Dracula', a book packed with write-ups and bios, art cards, many excellent extras on the discs plus (importantly) the 3D version of 'Creature from the Black Lagoon'.
I may have a regret in the future but the Blu-ray quality on the box set is excellent, the extras are a joy and 3D essential so I would have to keep both sets.
It is such a beautiful and amazing looking set!
Beautiful cover it would make a wonderful poster. I already have all those movies or I would consider buying it.
I absolutely love these films! I have very happy childhood memories of watching them with my dad who I lost recently! I purchased the individual box sets as they came out so won't invest in this set! I've no issues with the content obviously but the artwork wouldn't be my cup of tea but I respect the fact it works for others! I do agree limited/special editions are where we are going and I'm all for it. I've bought quite a few from Arrow for example. Invasion of the Body Snatchers 4k, Carrie 4k , American Werewolf in London etc and I think it keeps the market vibrant and interesting. Frankenstein. Dracula, The Wolfman, The Invisible Man are available in 4k Steelbook by the way. I enjoyed your video and will pop back regularly. Well done. Regards Alan in Dublin
Nice, looks great.
Cheers Adam!
Love your intro 👍👍 ☮️&💟
I had mine arrive the other day and can't wait to dive into all these films ive never seen before. As for the artwork i cant decide if i love it or hate it but its certainly an eye catching piece, people are sure to be drawn to it when looking at the collection
These are some of my favorite movies of all time. I already picked up the 4k releases previously, I won't double dip for this limited edition box set, but it sure is a fantastic presentation
I bought this limited edition last month, although I have an earlier box set that came with solid figurines of Dracula, Wolfman, and Frankenstein. I like having them all in one beautiful box and the fact that the edition is limited.
I don't display it, though. Usually I throw my movie cases away but special ones like this I put on a bookshelf. Anyone looking at the shelf couldn't tell what it is. It looks like a large book.
I buy movies just to watch and own. All I need are the disks (I own over 9,000 disks) and space they can fit in.
I love movie books as it is. Had yet to get any of these so this was perfect for me. Love the Art work and it just looks nice. Plus I love how the discs aren't in sleeves. Too bad we didn't get a bonus disc with this on the Artist and showing all his work.
Very cool
I just want the films so I got the 2 box sets.
I can see why 'collectors' may like this set though. Thanks for the review!
The older bluray box has nice 4X3? movie cards suitable for framing, and the films look great.
Excellent boxset,extremely tempted...dam you Elliot 😅
Haha sorry Marty! Don’t give in to the temptation, stay strong 💪
Is there another edition without the numbered sticker? Cause mine haven't and look exactly like this one.
I have the original blu-ray boxset and doubled dipped for the legacy editions but apart from a resale value I don't know if it's worth it.
So, Just picked this up today from Zavvi in the sale. £69.99
I’m really close to getting this. With my luck, it’ll sell out before I get around to buying it.
I think the individual movies have been released to 4K, or at least some of them. I have the blu ray box set of the 30 Universal monster movies. That's a really nice set.
I wish they do a individual sets like the dvd sets one was all Frankenstein and another is all creature from black lagoon etc.
I considered buying this but it’s too darn big. I’d rather buy them in a standard size set. Great cosy films. I’ve got the old Blu-ray boxset, I’ll upgrade these to 4K eventually. I recently bought the Lugosi NECA Universal Monsters Ultimate Dracula Carfax Abbey Black & White Figure, he looks uncanny on my shelf next to the Folio book of Dracula. Love it.
It is a very big piece! Oh very cool to hear about your Lugosi figure and Folio book! Cheers
@@ElliotCoen I like the artwork, looks cool but that book wouldn’t fit on top of my bookshelf. Got limited space. I keep thinking… shall I, shan’t I lol. Yeah I’m not a figure collector but the Lugosi figure is awesome. I could go above and beyond, collect all the monsters but I’m not going to. 😆
Interesting.. I got a copy of this from amazon UK. Doesn't have the numbered sticker and the discs look to be sort of pan-european... they don't have the titles on like in the video...
Ah interesting! Good to know. This exact copy actually came all the way from Canada and I assumed they all had the same numbered sticker. Cheers for the info!
I have the same issue with buying this from Amazon?
I've ordered this twice, and on both occasions, no sticker?
Is the uk set limited ??
I have the 8 film blu ray set and love it. I may get them in 4K in time, but I'd get the two smaller sets. I really dislike the artwork and presentation of this set. I always think of these films in B&W terms, and would have loved to see a classier, mono rigid case presentation, but that's just me.
I think this type of edition mainly appeals to collectors who are more hoarders than movie fans and who value packaging over the films themselves - the kind of collector who keeps everything in the shrink wrap and never watches the films.
Seems unfair to say that. What if we value the films highly but also appreciate the design of the packaging? I adore these particular films and love that they’ve been given this treatment.
@@ElliotCoen I certainly wasn’t referring to you Elliot as I know you are a movie fanatic. However there is a large demographic of collectors who, amongst other things, will refuse to buy a movie if the case is not covered in a sleeve of cardboard. The collectors who only ever talk about embossing, debossing, spot gloss and slipcovers and never mention acting, directing or cinematography.
Not one for me - personally I don't like the artwork style of this set. I have the limited edition coffin set edition of the blu-rays from a few years ago and that was a much better presentation and package and I suspect the quality difference is not that noticeable between the remastered blu-rays and these new 4Ks.
Idc about limited editions if it’s only packaging/cards/posters/etc, but if bonus features/alternate cuts/etc are withheld then that’s BS
5.500 copies. They only sell 5.000; the other 500 copies are for all the streamers with a UA-cam channel
Ooh someone’s salty!
@@ElliotCoen😄🧂
Both that ridiculously impractical packaging and abysmal artwork made sticking with my blu-ray set the easiest collecting decision I’ve made in a long time.
Tell us how you really feel!
I find it a monstruosity unfitting for most shelves, hard pass for me
I see what you did there
The artwork is atrocious damn 😂
Atrociously good 👍
@@ElliotCoen no stop it 🤣
Yeah, the art is an abomination - totally inappropriate for the films.
