Happy 50th Alvin! Long may you run

For two generations, the human-occupied submersible Alvin has helped scientists expand human knowledge of the ocean and inspired countless to learn more about the ocean. This year, Alvin turns 50, and we want you to help us celebrate.

I will always be grateful to WHOI and Alvin for helping spark my interest in the wonders of the ocean and marine biology. As a 3 year old, I watched "Dive to the Edge of Creation," a National Geographic Special about Alvin's discovery of deep sea rift vents and excitedly remarked that the dandelion organism found there was a "big fish" :)
