Bikepacking a Scottish Winter Wonderland! - Christmas Special
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 вер 2024
- Snow is falling !!! We head out into the snow to get our first sub-zero wildcamp of the season. This adventure has the full festive package! We arrived just in the nick of time to see the Christmas lights being switched on in the Scottish, Highland Perthshire town, Aberfeldy. That night it was a freezing -6.8C wildcamp at a stunning loch, where we discovered we'd forgotten to bring something vital!
The next morning the adventure continued after a wee warm up in the Cow & Parrot coffee shop, and some genius thinking to resolve our problem! We set off for our second winter night a bit further into the hills. The route didn't go exactly to plan and we had some challenges getting to our destination with obstacles on the route, icy streams, and distracted by possibly the most stunning mountain loch sunset ever! We wild-camped by a completely frozen loch, this time in a wilder more rugged landscape. Icy tracks on the way home test our ice tyres and nerve!
Although shorter this trip still had all the ingredients of a great Christmas micro adventure! #cyclingvlog #mtbadventure #bikepacking
Prepare to be captivated by the beauty of Highland Perthshire in winter conditions, every tree and blade of grass encrusted in snow and ice which made this trip very special!
So sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride!

Lovely video. Merry Christmas 🎄
Thanks Kevin
The landscapes just look even more amazing with the snow and ice. Hope you both have a lovely Christmas.
Yes, absolutely stunning, we were blown away by that sunset, but also the really moody. start on the last day with the steeper hillside above us. Slightly imposing, it was a special trip all round.
Familiar wee campspot to start there and perfect timing with the delay up the to lochan for sunset the second day, fun working out exactly where you went from clues and maps and satellite imagery 🎄
Glad you enjoyed the puzzle! The Cow and Parrot is definitely worth as a planned pitstop!
No mouse to steal our caramel wafers this time though!
Wow. Love your videos. That frozen lake was so worth bashing through to find.
Glad you enjoyed it
Delightful - many thanks again and Season’s Greetings to you both 😅

Nice, it's hard to beat those dry, cold days. Hope you have a good holiday.
It was crisp! ❄️Best days though. Have to have a keener eye on the forecasts and be ready to drop and run when a bluebird day comes up!
Watched it last night, cracking wee adventure
Cheers Stevie, much appreciated, sometimes keeping it simple and just getting out there can be as good as a rest, a bit of a getaway!
@TerraVenture forgetting a bit of the stove though 🙈🙈
Glad you could both laugh it off.
Don't know if could've 🤣🤣
The way I see it, you can blow up there and then or gently rib and mock forever, can't have both though! I play the long game!

Great trip and video. Greetings from Finland, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

He he, thank you, and happy new year 🎊 also!
Great video, "almost" would tempt me to get off my seat and do the same, no chance. Happy Christmas and a cycling New Year!
And to you Sparky 😜🍻
That grass/frost riding is where I like my Schlumpf mountain drive.
Just had a wee Google of that drive system, very interesting!
Fantastic adventure once again you two! I would like to see the temperate stats! lol
Merry Christmas & Happy New year! Thanks for sharing!
I'm hoping to get some more winter sleeping system data but it's been ridiculously warm, 12/13 degrees in Scotland this last week at times
Show us yur graphs !!!!!!!
Another video to make me jealous, and just may get off of my b**
And a very merry festive season to you two too
This made my day 😜. Lindsay's been ribbing me about that bit! Happy holidays!
@@TerraVenture I'm interested to see if there was a rise in temperater after you ate and snuggled in to your sleeping bag, and how you cooled off during the night, my physics background coming out here!!!
Beautifully filmed video and loving the drone footage, you'd have had to drag me away from that view at 19:03 !
Cheers 🚴♂️❄👍
It was absolutely stunning 😍
@@TerraVenture it certainly was!
Looking forward to part ll ; the temperature sensor new year's special.
If you're reading this Lindsay, nerdy stats are really important to us men 😁👨💻👍
Ah great video many thanks looks so pretty there. Happy Christmas to you both 🎄🍻
Thanks Leigh 🎄🎉🍻😜
Amaizing 😊
Thank you 👍
Yet another excellent video full of superb scenery & well filmed. Regarding your mudguards, how good are they & what make are they?
Hi Alan, thanks! The mudguards are brilliant. Ours are probably 4 years old and are permanently attached. Been beaten up in many manner of ways. The rear specifically gives effectively 100% protection. No matter what we ride the back of our jackets and shorts are always clean, as is our saddle bags. This makes life so much nicer on multi-day trips. They are from a brand called Mudhugger. If attaching one on the back of your own frame I recommend upgrading the protective tape that comes with them, especially if you have a carbon frame. Either thicker tape or a little slice of old inner tube. I've seen consequences of people not using anything and it's pretty grim. I also use every ziptie and really lash it down to prevent and movement at all. The front is a bit more generic but still good. It's a FRX Mudhugger with an extender piece however I wish they just made a longer one. Occasionally when lifting through trees etc we've lost the extension piece. So I araldite'd it on last time!
Thanks for your reply, I'll investigate the mudhuggers.
Forgot to wish you both a Merry Christmas. What about your temperature stats 🤔
They're coming!
What’s the tune when cycling past the frozen loch? It’s beautiful!!
I'll need to look it up! I tested that many against the footage. Heads still buzzing from trying to get the edit finished yesterday! I will come back to you!
Hi I just checked and it was Michael Vignola, Give and take . Link below, We have licensed it for use in the video ua-cam.com/video/DmEdbH9rAVA/v-deo.html
Fantastic stuff 👍🏕️
Cheers Alan, Merry Christmas
Same to you and your good lady 🥂🏕️
Thoroughly enjoyed that 👍 Spiked tyres....looks like you're using Schwable Ice Spiker Pro 2.6"? Have you used them much and would you consider them necessary or 'nice to have' ? I live in Fife so Don't see a lot of snow. When I do it's generally fresh so my regular Michelin MTB tyres seem to work fine. Not had snow long enough for it to become compacted and frozen (which I guess is when the spiked tyres come into their own?)
Hi Adam, thanks for the comment. It's definitely mostly for the ice. We did a trip 2 years ago and our regular tyres were fine the first day, but then it melted and re froze and we had KMs of pure ice and we were all over the place and had to abandon that route. So we go with the knowledge it's definitely snowy as a minimum, but anticipate that they may be required. They are phenomenal on actual sheet ice, so impressive. And to be honest I have no real issues using them on a bit of mixed ground, those routes are typically slow, fun trips so we're not in any rush. For day rides in Lomonds where it's snowed recently I'd probably not bother. Did fine for years before now, but because some of the places were going are getting more remote , over several smdays and it can slow you down so much if it's really icy it can affect your ability to complete is why we've started just using them.
Thanks for your considered reply 👍 Good food for thought regarding future winter route ideas ☃️🚴♂️💨
What kind of temperature sensors are those? Always meant to get something like that for myself! Looks like a magic wee trip out.
They are made by Switchbot and are Bluetooth to an app on the phone, keeps I think about a year's worth of data
@@TerraVenture ace, thanks for letting me know! Pretty cheap too, might grab a couple myself now…
Yet another video, if you dont mind me asking, what video editing software do you use. MERRY CHRISTMAS.
Hi there! We have been busy for sure! I use Davinchi Resolve, the free edition on a 7 year old Mac that gets a bit hot 🥵 when rendering 🤣
Show me the graphs please 😊
Merry christmas 🌲
Lol, thanks! That's another vote in favour!
Of course we want to know the stats 😂
Who wouldn't really! 😜
Not so bothered about the graph but a bar chart might be useful 😉
Looks like a "short" explanation may be in order!
Climate or romance scale? One of them was below freezing?
Thanks
Did you order those fenders because they are ugly as hell?
Yes, best protection on the market, performance over appearance, however beauty is in the eye of the beholder and we like them!
A very Merry Christmas to you both.Ive just subscribed to your channel after this video being the second one I’ve watched and throughly enjoyed ! Aberfeldy is one of my favourite places in Scotland .Perthshire being so beautiful at any time of the year.Especially in the Autumnal season.Looking forward to watching many more of your vlogs.
Why thanks Jackie much appreciated!
