Linkin Park is an American rock band formed in Agoura Hills, California, in 1996. The band gained international fame with their debut album, Hybrid Theory, released in 2000. The album was a massive success, featuring hits like "In the End," "Crawling," and "One Step Closer." Hybrid Theory sold millions of copies worldwide and is certified Diamond by the RIAA, making Linkin Park one of the best-selling rock bands of the 21st century.
The band's music is known for blending various genres, including alternative rock, nu-metal, hip-hop, and electronic elements. Their early sound, especially in Hybrid Theory and Meteora (2003), was characterized by heavy guitar riffs, electronic layers, and the contrasting vocal styles of lead vocalist Chester Bennington and rapper Mike Shinoda.
Throughout their career, Linkin Park constantly evolved their sound. Albums like Minutes to Midnight (2007) saw a shift towards a more alternative and less aggressive sound, while A Thousand Suns (2010) experimented heavily with electronic and conceptual elements. Despite changes in style, the band maintained a loyal fan base and continued to enjoy commercial success.
Chester Bennington's emotionally charged vocals were a defining element of the band. Tragically, Bennington died by suicide in 2017, which deeply affected the band and their global fan base. Following his death, the future of Linkin Park became uncertain, and the band entered a period of hiatus.
Linkin Park's legacy remains strong due to their innovative sound, genre-blending approach, and their exploration of personal, emotional, and social themes. They have sold over 100 million records worldwide and received numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards.
