I really cannot thank you enough for putting these videos together. As a very novice carver, I find your instructions incredibility informative and provide me with the details necessary to elevate my carving skills. I have struggled with outlining feathers in the past and now see there is no need to put in the detail to the extent I have been trying to achieve. Great stuff...thank you again!

Very informativeTom. I have Pat's CDs on texturing but this is the first video of texturing I have seen. Very pleasing to watch.

Thanks again for the new tricks . I see and understand how not edging every feather because I just finished a wood duck and carved the edges of every feather. After it was all finished and painted ,I didn't like all the feathers edged. Duck's feathers don't all lay or rise up the same. Good stuff.

Do you ever burn or stamp in the feathers

I have not done any burning or stamping of feathers on the birds I’ve done Brian. I can’t offer much help in that regard.

Nice video again Tom. Do I understand your philosophy is to carve "softness" into the decoy and add the details with paint, instead of carving details (burning feathers)?

Thanks Brian. Not really a philosophy. I appreciate all types of carvings from gunners to full decorative but I’ve never done full decorative birds with feather burning, etc. Most of my detail is added with paint.
