I lived by a 13 acre stretch of woods along a creek in southern Missouri and like the girl in story three would go skinny dipping in the summer when nobody else was around. My father was at times an abusive asshole, so I'd go camping for days in a small cave in the side of a hill overlooking the water to avoid his wrath. One time when I was out there, a lynx jumped out from behind a tree and clawed both my arm and leg leaving a permanent scar on the latter. Later that same day, a large black thing was going through the woods which looked like an over-sized cat. I looked closer and it turned out to be a black panther, a rare black mountain lion carrying the same lynx from earlier in its mouth. All I had was a lighter, my pocketknife, and my 80 pound longbow with three arrows, with no time to draw and shoot, so I ran like hell towards the house and barely made it before it could notice me.

Dunno if most of these types of commenters are city dwellers, but I grew up in a small town, I have Slavic upbringing and as kids we loved just randomly taking a dip in any water place (river, lake, whatever) at random, even in plain underwear. Swam naked with no one or just my girlfriends (I'm a woman) around. Still prefer to skinny dip from time to time. Many Slavic people even let their small babies wander around beaches stark naked, girls usually don't wear swimsuit bras until they're like 6 or smth or start developing roundness in their chest area (although now with Western influence I think many started dressing up hella small kids with washboard chests in bras). And overall kids in towns and villages are very active and generally free-spirited. I'm just wondering, why so many surprised people around here in the comments? Kudos to girl in the story though, she's got a quick mind and seems like a fighter (not that she could fight two grown-ass men, but she has an agile mind and reactions).

one night i woke up to to something brushing up on the house outside my bedroom window. i sat up to see someone staring inside my window.
a month or two later, all of the neighbors and their kids gathered at my parents trailer because they saw someone skulking around in the woods by our house and running through our back yards.

I used to go into the woods by my house a lot. They weren't deep woods since I live in the suburbs, but I've some experiences that were super creepy to me at the time because I let my childhood imagination run free. Once, the creek turned green and my brother and neighbor and I started this little "investigation." Since, like I said, these weren't deep woods by any means, you could hear cars along the roads and sometimes people talking (which is super spooky at night). I remember we heard car doors slamming during our little "investigation" (probably from a house that was near the woods- which was kinda creepy because the driveway was in our neighborhood but it wasn't actually in our neighborhood. There was this big swamp which was blocked off by trees and the house was hidden way back there. No idea who lived there). Anyway, we came up with this whole theory that people were dumping toxic waste into our creek and turned it green. Really, I think it was just from a storm or something that made all the algae turn the water green or something.
There were some other woods too that were further away, deeper, and a hell of a lot creepier. I used to be scared because deer would be everywhere and you couldn't hear any civilization or anything. The water was also orange? Like rusty? My neighbor and I used to pretend bigfoot lived in those woods. Man, I miss those times.

I love listening to your channel when I’m cleaning and driving. I live in the woods in rural country so it really helps me when, at the end of your stories, you talk to “us” and joke around a bit cuz when the sun goes down it is a bit scary to me to listen to. Also when I’m driving home at night, through unlighted streets (again, it is the country) I think “why are you doing this to yourself and getting scared when I could break down, hit a deer., etc...and be stranded in the total darkness?” I’ve actually turned my lights off a couple times to see how really dark it is and it scares me it’s so black! I can’t see my hand in my face!!! I can’t help it tho! Love your channel. Your voice, everything. Thank you for this. I’ll keep on listening but maybe take a break after dark...hmmm

One time I was running in the woods by my house. I ran pretty deep into the woods and before I knew it it was getting dark. I started looking for a way out. The shadows cast by the trees were making somewhat menacing shapes, and I swore I could hear very subtle voices around he. At this point I getting slightly nervous, and kept looking around me. At one point I thought I saw the silloette of a very tall man behind me. I take off like a rocket and trip over some routs and cut knee on a rock. I look back and see it's just a strangly shaped broken tree. I still hear the voices and it keeps getting darker. Finally I look up towards where I think the voices are coming from. I see people walking nearby. Even with a swollen and bloody knee I run like hell in their direction. It turns out the trail was right by me the whole time. Lol. I don't run in the woods at night more than a few times a week anymore.

Just a two minute walk from my place of work there's a little forest, and even further is a bigger one. A few of them have some odd things about them at night, but like anyone who lives near forest knows, leave the forest to its business, especially at night.

It makes me so happy to know our children are not truly much different than we are. The ghost story is still alive and well, though now instead of being told at a sleep over with flashlight blaring over face, or in the deep dark forest around a warm summer camp fire, they have survived onto the Internet yet, the intentions are still the same.Despite the changing of the medium, the ghost story is still the same and it's mission has never changed, that be to scare little young one's until they pee their pant's and can't sleep for the rest of the night.Cheer's to all of you Ghost Story teller's for keeping this fantastic tradition alive :D

In relation to that last story, I've heard that it's not an uncommon for people to use country roads to stage carjackings. Lay a tree along the road, wait for a car to stop and boom you have your mark. According to my old instructor he once knew someone who pulled up to a bunch of people just laying in the road and when he stopped a person started running towards the car and he sped around the bodies and a bunch of them got up and tried to stop him.

Cut the top layer of your flooring & add a latch, cover it with an area rug. Volia fake trap door! Why stop there? Cover the windows lazilly with news papers. The sun will turn them yellow by the time halloween gets here. Add black draperies, thick ones. or red velour. Paint the room a VERY dark gray & ceiling jet flat black. DO IT UP!

(Hey lazy, I have a story that's more shocking then scary and it's from my teacher, not me.) Anyway, my teacher went to Kenya for 3 months. It was small village. It was poor but there was a fair amount of food. There was only one school around the area. The school was made of a few small houses for classrooms and a teachers lounge.
One day, my teacher walked into the teacher's lounge. He saw a horrible sight. He saw a teacher beating a teenager with a belt. The teenager was bruised, bloody and crying. My teacher wanted to intervene but he knew nothing would happen. My teacher then walked out and later saw the adolescent crawling away from the lounge in pain.
One week later, the kid died from a disease that went into his injuries. My teacher later found out that the family that lived with him had a daughter and was poor so they could only afford one math textbook for the school. Each day, the siblings traded it. The reason the kid was beaten was because his sister had it.

i dont know if this is just my history of violent video games speaking... but i would love it if in the story about the old man outside of the cabin saying "come out here and play with me" the kid just immediately dives through the window and lets loose a battle cry echoing through out the woods and beats the absolute shit out of the man. Instead of being scared, the kid just goes 300 on the guy and puts his spartan armor on and fucks shit up.

I've only told this story to friends that would actually do this activity. When I was 19 I started wandering into the woods at night 2, 3 in the morning. I lived in a fairly upper class area so I wasn't to fearful of human influences at this time. My friends thought I was crazy but after several trips they started to wonder why. I never had told them of my first night walking tell we where years older. Mostly cause I didn't want to spook them, secondly I wanted them to verify what I went through...
I like the rush of fear, it's a primal instinct it puts you in a certain unbridled thought process. It also teaches you to master it to know when you should fear. My first walk at night was on a trail, in the California foothills sparce oak trees and dry dead long grass. Adventuring more so off trail I walked into a thick woodland along a covered road thick with branches and overgrowth.
Thing's didn't get interesting tell I reached the end of the road. I was carrying a backpack a flash light being nervous and wanting to see. This night I learned, a flashlight at night in the woods will make you far more fearful then if you went without and let your eyes adjust to the darkness. The woodland around the road started to clear, oak trees dry grass as it ended at a ragged fence line of a rancher's property. It was late I was adventuring and I said to hell with rules. His property opened up into a plain then, it held small clumps of groved oaks but it was mostly open so the cattle could feed and roam.
I started to hear a strange howling, like nothing I had ever heard before. It held an echo to it in the distance and it sounded like some sort of monkey crossed with a seagull. At first I thought it was some sort of strange bug. It made me nervous but I shrugged it off as beating my fear was something I wanted to do. I walked with the flash light on the ranchers road, the strange howling continued in the distance. I flung the flash light around back and forth trying to find it around the open barren flat of grassland.
The stopped for awhile assessing the howl, I felt pressured to go on but determined that it was wildlife I continued to walk. The echoing howl got closer and would fade away, it was as if it was flying closer then forcefully flying away and echoing in the distance again taunting me. It started to really piss me off.
The flying howl continued as if taunting me and worse... more echo's started to happen. I felt as if three or so of these echoing howls where flying around me taunting me. I stopped dead in the middle of the flat open area telling myself, I see nothing, I've felt nothing so I must stomp this nervous fear out and ignore this echoing howl. It was then at that moment the echoing was rushing from behind me as if assaulting me. It was flying up just behind me closer then it had been, as if it was telling me I'm not messing around anymore...
I flung around, and felt as if the echoing howl went straight through me. Breathing in a heightened sense of panic a chill shot through me standing me on end. I said to hell with the echoing howls, I ran as fast as I could for the woodland once more. They didn't follow me into the treeline but I could hear them quite clearly over the open plain as if a whisper. I felt much better being in the woods again. It was the last time I brought a flashlight as I felt it was the prime reason for the taunting and attention I had received. My mind always reels with what it was trying to explain it. Angry spirits was what my mind told me but my own logic told me, just bats...
My friends had walked many moonlit nights with me as it is much easier to do. Granted they had never heard the strange echoing howls or the vertigo their quick back and forth assaults on your senses. I kept going looking for the sound but it never came back and my friends could never verify what I heard. I told them later in life what happend and they both stared at me as if wondering why would I want to verify such a thing. Walking taught me to hold my imagination and paranoia and look for answers from seeing, hearing or knowing what something is. But the echoing howls I could never explain to myself as much as I would like too.

Thank you for this story! I'm from the state of California too and would like to know which foothills this happened at? Also good on you for trying to stand up to your fears! That's very admirable! But at the same time, not all fears are irrational ones... We have fear for a reason. Sometimes you just gotta listen to them...

It still confuses me but it doesn't scare me, I just settled that I never really confirmed if it was paranormal or not. But I assure you the sounds going on where pretty damn paranormal. I just always wanted visual proof or something more...

+Kerri Hiner And that the author was only a little girl when this happened to her makes my stomach turn. These grown ass men were turned on by a naked prepubescent child, then they had stolen her little girl underwear yet, it's just too sick and disgusting. I can't stand that there are adults out there who get turned on by little children, it's such a sick world we live in. :(

I frequently went to my local woods in 2009 where there's a unique open area as if it were heaven on Earth as the natural overgrowth in a way hid the entry creating a comforting atmosphere where I studied etc. Though after a year and a bit in 2010 I was on my way for the 5th day in a row to the hidden spot I had become accustom to calling "The Divine") I know pretty cheesy though it was hard to describe with many other words, ( when I found great difficulty in locating it by its distinctive entry of lush flora, though soon realised I had already passed it on several occasions but it had no longer living flora but that of dirt and torn up plantation alongside the dreadful stench that of which was similar to roadkill; I lurked around the area for a few minutes and ventured in to see drawings of random crap on the wall that appeared to have had blood, feces & I think pure fat I couldn't tell what any of the symbols or scribblings aside from the Greek alphabet and a demonic symbol.
