I played D1 footy and came back to canada and played with a lot of these guys playing now and the level difference is noticeable, Newtown Pride have top D1 players in their team vs a bunch of Canadian uni guys with no real competition
I played D1, we went deep in the tourney as well. If we entered in the tournament, it wouldn't be fair. This was slow and poor.
Lmao. None of any of these players who featured in this tourni can play 4th division in Italy, Germany, Spain and England.
I played at a local field by my house and let me tell you, you wouldn't last a second on the field with us. We would absolutely destroy you and you'd be so SAD!

I've never heard of many of these clubs before. Just googled Newtown Pride FC and are they an amateur team? That's crazy to see an am team win it all.
Not quite, the "amateur teams" had a much better chance of winning with players in their prime playing every week than the professional clubs who just had a bunch of ex pro's who had been retired for 10ish years except the odd exception like Como who seemed to have academy players
Not only to add theyre a highly succesful Amateur team who play at a good standard

Wrexham also had a couple of players who played at a high level in England only a few years ago
The teams are full of young professionals and old player it’s all a mix up some players have nothing to do with the club, just abit of fun I think and it’s really enjoyable

Can someone explain what this "target score" is?
Whatever the score is at the end of the 40 minutes, the Target Score is set as one more than however many goals the leading team has. Then they play until one of the teams hit the target score. Since it was 1-0 at the end of regulation here, they played until one of the teams scored 2.
It's based on the Elam Ending that they use in the other tourney they run, The Basketball Tournament. It's a way to ensure that every game ends with a goal/basket.
Just another yankee gimmick.

It’s a tournament any club team-pro or amateur-can qualify to play in. It’s an offshoot of The Basketball Tournament, which started in 2014. Teams can have pro or amateur players.
This was dope and a shame that they didnt advertise better.. straight dope...
They don't really advertise the basketball tourney either. Mainly because you have to do the advertising yourself (the teams that is)

The standard of play was terrible, surely there must be better teams
Newtown Pride won every single game by at least two goals while everyone else was sneaking trough by just one, and they also hit the woodwork three times today.
