my old resistol was so dirty and caked with dirt that i threw it on the porch, hosed it with dish soap and a garden hose and used a tooth brush to break up the matted dirt. I will say that tooth brush tasted kind of funny after that
Hey! Hi! I got a crushable hat today from Amazon (a pantropic Monte Rio lite felt) got it on a bargain for 20 bucks. The thing is those guys put it on a box too small for the hat and it was this way for almost a week while it arrived. The brim is kinda wavy on the front and bent down. Is there a way to straighten litefelt or crushable hats? I understand they got memory but a week on the mail was kinda too much. Thanks, man and keep up the videos, they're a great source of information!
I'd return it or try using stacks of books ..heavy weights on the brim.. overnight. It's not easy, they have memory and want to stay put, they just don't WANT TO be reshaped, they're stubborn. weights or maybe just return it, we can sell u one at a discount if u wait till thanxgiving, we have 25-30% sale coming.. Sorry, not a lot u can do without the hat blocking equipment etc
It's common. Any place without hat boxes ship crushed hats..I get these letters almost every day, a few a week.. I'd do a clean Amazon refund if it's bad. if it's very minor, try the weights, cover w hankerchief or t-shirt first,co the weights don't dent the felt..flatten it over night with a ton of weights, dictionary, dumbells on top of books..first a cloth, then a book, then weight on top. If it's really bad, just get a refund, then order from a place that is a hat store, w a hat box. Double boxed before shipping Or I can try to find u a sale hat here if u call or email later. jjhatcenter.com
@@KTGHATS thanks for the fast answer, man! It's not 'that' bad, mild at most...rest of the hat seems to be ok, it just have a 'beak' on the front, kinda like having the brim snapped down, though it's supposed to be straight all around (you can see the picture on Amazon or Google, just type pantropic Monte Rio). The 'beak' gives the hat some attitude TBH, some co-workers even flattered me last night, the issue is it is a little off center. It's barely noticeable, but me being a bit of a perfectionist, specially with hats, it kinda bothers me, specially in front of a mirror. If the hat were a clock the 'beak' would be pointing at 11 or 10:30. I would return it, but they would just give my money back instead of an exchange, and since I bought it, the price went up to normal, almost 80 bucks and I cannot afford a hat that price, that's why I bought it without even thinking! Hahaha I watch your videos from Mexico City so buying another one is hardly an option since shipping prices are often high, and very few stores offer intl shipping. I'm gonna try your advice, just put the hat on my nightstand (hard flat surface) under a pillow case and the heaviest book I got at home (a Plato compilation LOL) on top of the crease. Even put a dumbell on top of all! Gonna have it sitting there all day since I work the graveyard shift. Really, dude, thanks for the advice, I hope it works! This is my first felt hat, (got some straw and fabric, nothing fancy) and I've been wanting a crushable for years now but as I told you before, it's almost out of reach for me to have an expensive one. Sorry for the long letter, man, I felt a bit like sharing. You rock, Kev!
I used my tea pot for the steam to reshape the brim on my Stetson rancher. Worked very well.
That's good, thick, hearty felt. Should be no prob
Your hands shaping skills are stellar.
Artist brother….love it!
Will the hair spray to stiffen the brim work on a straw hat ?
Yes.
@@KTGHATS Awesome ! Thanks a bunch
This is great. Another lesson learned today.
So you clean, spray the hair spray, brush then steam? Do you let it dry first from the spray?
Let it dry. Stiffen the hat only when it’s too soft to reshape. Let it dry, then steam into shape.
Why do you have to brush counter clockwise? Is there something about the direction of the felt?
Yeah, like Velvet..it's smooth one way,and against the grain the other way..
I love to see your cool, haberdashery tools. I just use a simple hand steamer and a aluminum mixing bowl on a Styrofoam head.

Ha! I use fine sandpaper on grime build up..

That's typical. A hat needs to be shipped in a hat box..

Dig the packing tape instead of all the felt dust from a stiff brush
Hey Kevin. Is there a brand of superhold hairspray you recommend?
In a previous video he said aquanet
No, they’re all good, I’ve used Suave, Rave, Aqua net, with great success..
