The worst part about the game being so short is people could beat the game and refund it immediately
let's face it that the game developer knows very well that you shouldn't release a paid game so short on steam, he just made the post complaining just to draw attention and attract players, so much so that at the time of controversy that happened involving this game he sold many copies, despite the game being very mediocre

The game currently sits at 91% Positive on steam (89% recent). So either the dev focused hard on the negative ( a common mistake), Or the game made itself a really good reputation since. In fact all his games have been very well received on Steam overall.
Checked a bit further, and the other issue was people asking for refunds en masse, because of Steam's 2 hours policy. Yeah that really sucks. You can't make short games on the platform. It's even worse than piracy because you have to watch the money fly away. Just fucking sad.
Anyway the dev should check again. He's gotten some support from the fans.
I don't think it was even bad reviews that were getting to him, people could play through the whole game and leave even a good review but still refund the game due to it being shorter than the 2 hours allotted by steam for no-questions refund. Too many people were just abusing the system.
I never heard about him having any issue with reviews (I think matt just got it wrong), but apparently people would return the game after completing it (because it's short) so frequently, he felt it wasn't profitable. People heard the story and bought the game to support him and show support for short games, but a single kind gesture doesn't really fix the overall problem.
I dont know. I checked on Steam and it was $9 US this second. According to Matts play it was 45 min or so. $9 is a lot for "under an hour" play that doesnt seem to have a lot of replay and no story resolution. If it was cheaper, yeah thats just people being dicks. But for around $10, I think people may expect more than what they got - even if it showed promise, maybe some people felt they just paid $9 for a demo.

WR is 14 seconds, done with an un-recreatable glitch. Matt would need to spend a month to hit the leaderboard
The Dev quit because of Steam's return policy. If you play a game for less than 2 hours you can request a refund, and Steam for the most part, sides with the customer. Summer of '58 is around 1 1/2 hours long...so what do you think people did? The Dev made almost no money off this game due to refunds.
That's the dev's own fault, don't make crappy short games.

Review bombing was not really the case with that one... Because it's so short, people were refunding it massively after playing the whole thing.
Nice environment and neat story, but a few too many jump scares for my taste.
I imagine "shits locked" is taking the cyberpunk 2077 development route. Excellent strategy! I expect it to be out in 11 years or later, not sooner. That being said, I'm fucking hyped!
It’s actually worse than Matt’s summary of the review bombing. People played it, beat it and then returned the game on Steam and review bombed it. A total abuse of the refund system on Steam in regards to shorter experiences.

This feels like the evolution of games that were just screens with clicking and then puzzle piece hunting. There was one that had 2 games that I thought was really scary at the time (Pewdiepie played them several years back, you were some guy who’s family had died and the world had been ended by monsters)

Is it me, or does alot of the objects in this game[including the NV camera] seem like reused assets from Outlast?
At least you didn't have to deal with the battery life from Outlast that drains faster than my old Walk-Man CD player did when I turned on "the boost!"

I wasn't a fan of the sharp noises since they hurt my ear, but it was a pretty interesting game, and a real shame the dev got chased off by awful steam reviewers. It was a neat game and I hope they come back to make a sequel!
