    In This episode, I will be reviewing a 7’1 Tri Plane Hull by Channel Islands
    The Tri Plane Hull is Devon Howard and Britt Merrick’s latest creation in the alternative side of Channel Islands. After the success of their Mid model, Devon wanted to build a board with a bit more volume and pushing that wide point up for a more easy ride. Ow and let’s not forget the Tri Plane Hull that makes this board much different from anything else in the CI line. Does that more stubby outline cater to less than perfect surf? Well, let’s get a closer look.
    The nose and tail rocker are elevated enough for the ability to burry that rail but also allows a quick trim speed. The nose has a 50/50 to a fuller 60/40 meeting a down rail with a hard edge starting 21 inches from the tail Bottom is a slight roll to the tri plane meeting a double concave.
    I wanted to share with you a community chat I designed for all things surfing. It was designed to focus on several different categories that I feel are key interests to the modern day surfer. The categories range from surf craft in general, to outside of surfing activities, to second hand products. This is a forum for everyone and anyone with the main goal of building a global community. So go ahead and check it out and I hope you enjoy.

    Looks like a nice addition to the CI lineup. Seems similar to the CJ Nelson Outlier 7’2 which is also a hull design single fin.

      Hey bud. Definitely a cool board and stoked to see CI trying some different stuff. Just to be clear though. A hull is a much different bottom then a tri plane hull. The outlier is a very different design but they are both very fun.

      @@surfcraftunion I was gonna ask you this on Jamboards but I’m too lazy to go over there now haha. Can you compare the outlier and the TPH? I, like you, have ridden the 7’ and 8’ outlier. I think I’m headed down to my local shop to scoop up the 7’6” tomorrow because it sounds like the right fit for me. BUT another shop says they’ll have some TPH in soon and I’m tempted to try one of these babies out…

    • @surfcraftunion
      @surfcraftunion  Рік тому +2

      @@brian2973 Hey Brian.
      So this is a tough one to answer because they are two very different boards because of the bottom on them. If you enjoy the feel of the outliers because of their ability to just kinda flow in waves going over deep spots and connecting I would stick with it. The TPH needs a better lined up wave in my opinion and feel that it’s where the board excels. The thunderbolt tech also obviously has a different feeling as well. So really you have to ask yourself what am I looking for and what do I need. Not sure if this helps but feel free to continue if you like.

    Great video! I’m stuck between this board and the CI Midlength. What do you think?? Comparison video would be awesome!

    • @surfcraftunion
      @surfcraftunion  Рік тому +3

      Hey David,
      So I have never ridden the CI Mid model. I have seen a handful but never surfed them. But from what I can kinda tell with the two is that the TPH is made for a little less critical waves and also something that is maybe a little more volume friendly. Most likely more rocker in the mid and the 2 plus 1 fin set up will help it turn easier. But the mid model will most likely excel in better more lined up waves. Think of the mid as almost a step up and not really a board that bridges the gap from a longboard to a smaller mid length like the TPH does.

      @@mattbeer9094 I like the idea of the tri-plane over the CI Mid, but I think if I were to order one I'd go custom, in order to get a 2+1 setup.

      @@FoilWays probably best just getting the CI Mid to be honest then. Think the hull concept is designed to be ridden single fin.

    • @surfcraftunion
      @surfcraftunion  Рік тому +1

      Hi sorry for the delayed response. Just in general a tri plane bottom is a area of concave and flat spots on the bottom of the board. It’s hard to explain without showing pictures and every brand does it a touch different. If you look on Devon’s instagram or most likely Channel Islands website there are a few pictures where the lighting really shows what Britt is doing with CI s bottom contour.
