In this thought-provoking video, spiritual teacher Ramesh Balsekar delves into the concepts of self-realization, enlightenment, and the nature of doership. The discussion, set in a calm, intimate setting, revolves around the profound understanding of what it means to be free from the sense of personal doership.
Balsekar begins by asking what is understood by terms like self-realization and liberation. He challenges the common notion that these states are merely about achieving a peaceful mind. Instead, he suggests that true enlightenment is marked by the total, unconditional acceptance that there is no personal doer-that all actions happen through us, but are not of our doing. This understanding leads to the realization that we are not responsible for the actions that occur through our body-mind organism, nor for the actions of others.
The dialogue explores how this understanding impacts daily life. Balsekar explains that when one truly understands that they are not the doer, pride and guilt associated with actions cease to exist. Whether an action results in praise or blame, the enlightened person recognizes that it is not their action and thus does not take it personally.
Balsekar also addresses the concept of destiny, emphasizing that everything that happens is predetermined, and all actions are the will of the source, or God. This understanding dissolves the burden of responsibility and brings about a state of acceptance and peace.
As the conversation progresses, Balsekar tackles the issue of reincarnation, explaining that belief in reincarnation is rooted in the notion of personal responsibility for actions. However, if there is no individual doer, the concept of reincarnation loses its foundation. He contrasts the common belief in rebirth with the deeper understanding that there is no individual self to continue from one life to another.
The discussion touches on the teachings of various spiritual texts, including the Bhagavad Gita, where Balsekar explains how Krishna's teachings to Arjuna illustrate the concept of non-doership and the predetermined nature of all events. Balsekar also recounts a story about Ramana Maharshi, highlighting the subtle nuances of spiritual teachings and how they are often misunderstood when taken out of context.
In one of the most poignant moments of the video, a participant shares how they came to terms with their long-held anger towards their father by realizing that neither they nor their father were responsible for the actions that caused the pain. This realization brought about a profound sense of relief and compassion, demonstrating the transformative power of Balsekar's teachings.
Throughout the video, Balsekar emphasizes the importance of acceptance-acceptance of life as it unfolds, without the burden of expectation or the illusion of control. He explains that true renunciation is not about giving up material possessions or pleasures but about renouncing the fear of losing them. This leads to a life lived in harmony with the natural flow of events, free from the suffering caused by attachment and the false sense of doership.
The video concludes with Balsekar's insights into the nature of marriage and relationships, where he humorously addresses the dynamics of compromise and the importance of understanding each other's roles. His teachings, delivered with warmth and humor, offer a deep, practical understanding of the principles of Advaita, or non-duality, providing viewers with a pathway to inner peace and liberation from the illusions of the ego.
This video is a profound exploration of the nature of self, the illusion of control, and the ultimate freedom that comes from understanding our true nature. It invites viewers to reflect on their own lives and to consider the possibility of living without the burden of personal doership.

Thank you so much for adding these videos. I have the original recordings but they have not stood up well over time. Also, it would be wonderful if you or someone would help in the following two matters: firstly, I have audios of several of Ramesh's teachings/seminars but the audio is so faint they are very hard to hear and enjoy, it would be wonderful if such could be remastered so they are easier to hear and then put on UA-cam, or a blog. Secondly, I must have a couple dozen dvds of Ramesh's morning teachings/interviews but am not sure if I have them all. It would be wonderful if the complete collection were put up on UA-cam for all to enjoy.
