You were trying to crank your amp up beyond its limits and that causes it to go from a smooth push and pull motion, to having it slightly hold the subwoofer on each push and pull motion. That slight hold in the movement causes a ton of heat buildup and is the most common cause of blown subwoofers.

Build the bass line in something like FL Studio and "layer it" in audacity, essentially.
