Thank you. No problem with the heat as these fires are designed to blow the heat downwards from the front vents. The tv will not get hot at all from that
Hey man, thanks for sharing this video. Looking to create something like this in my living room. Where do you recommend getting the fireplace? Also what size do you recommend? Bearing in mind we’ve got a 50” TV. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Marc, I personally think getting a fire similar width to the tv is always a good starting point. If you need further help/advice please message my fb or instagram for a quicker response 👍🏻
Everyone makes it different on their own way. There isnt really a tutorial on this just an insight because every household, wall, material, tv size is different. But good video
We create hidden access directly behind the tv for consoles, sky boxes etc, with the tv being on a swing arm bracket simply pull the tv out and access everything behind it
If I got it plastered first then how would I fit the fire in? The tv is fitted at this stage to make sure it fit correctly and at the next stage of plastering it simply taken off the bracket
@Kris Horner it’s not a recessed fire! it’s a built in fire so wouldn’t work that way. Recessed fires slot into the hole, this particular fire has an outer frame meaning framework is built around it
And what they don’t tell you is the tv sounds like it’s shut inside a cupboard coz the sound comes out of the back so you have to spend a grand on surround sound equipment and have a soundbar and/or external speakers around the room so it’s no longer all neat and tidy…you can all thank these silly unrealistic tik tok videos for that, the ones which are dressed up like show homes, not a single wire in sight, sky box, PlayStation or Xbox for the kids etc etc etc.
Thanks Ste for your wonderful insight into the issues faced with having a media wall. I’m confused why you would be looking on UA-cam for how to build them if you feel so strongly opinionated about them? With Xboxes and PlayStations for the kiddies to play, we do hide these discreetly away within the tv recess, I’ll do a little video on that for you to see as may help you on your way to building this too 👍🏻
Awesome mate. We’re currently gutting our living room out and dot and dabbing all interior walls. Would you recommend boarding all walls first then build one of these? Or board the walls to it??
Thank you. I’d suggest boarding all the walls first and then fix the new media wall to the wall with the correct rail plugs. Personally find that so much easier
Hi pal. You've inspired me to give it a go 😬🤞 Is it just personal preference whether to use either plasterboard or mdf and is it a 20mm gap around the TV- top, bottom and sides? Cheers.
Hi Phil, that’s good to know mate and I wish you well on your build, here to help if I can in any way 👍🏻 Personally I would suggest plasterboard as MDF can work out more expensive and unless your very precise with your cuts could end up leaving gaps. I leave roughly 25mm gap all the way around the tv.
Hi, Thanks for the video. What depth would you recommend if building out from the chimney breast and not having a fire. So the media wall would just have a TV and possibly a sound-bar or shelf. Also what size timbers did you use. Thanks
Just ordered our 50 inch fire this morning, I have anxiety over starting this ,seems like there is a lot of money to be saved it you can do yourself, is your framing timber 3x2
Very nice. Quick question, I noticed you have carpet. Did you cut the carpet around so it sits on the floor or does it float on top of carpet (hidden by skirting)?
Is that dot and dab and if so what fixings did you use Great work thanks for posting as I’m about to start this 🙏 oh and what bracket for tv 😂. It’s not as easy as it looks great. I like the way you recessed the tv and have the shelf inside 👍👍
It’s not dot and dab and I use 8” wall fixings to hold the frame and grip fill for peace of mind. I use a bonitec double arm tv bracket too which are amazing 👌🏻 Thanks for the kind words and happy to help if you have any questions
On another note, worst case scenario that your fire place breaks and need replacement, how do you go about? Will you have to take the entire media wall down to remove and replace it ?
The worst case would be to run a multi tool around the frame where the fire is and slide the fire out. Would possibly need a bit of filling when replaced but nothing too major
If you don't mind, I want to do this but where would you ideally have the sockets and the ones for the ethernet cable? And where would you locate the dvd player and router etc thanks
Hi, what kind of wood do you recommend for this? Is there anywhere you recommend buying the wood from? Is that just plaster board too? I'm in the UK and wanting to do this in my front room ☺️
Hi, I would recommend using cls 3x2 timber lengths, you could possibly get these from b&q. Also all the media walls I build are plastered finishes. Take a look at some of my work online “Mediawalls2u” Lots of ideas on there that may help you 😀
Good question. With consoles/dvd players/sky boxes etc, I usually build a hidden shelf within the tv recess for these to discreetly sit on, always accessible due to the pivot tv bracket and I always leave minimum 25mm gap all the way round the tv recess for ventilation
Now you have to take it all apart... Mud the Drywall... let it dry, sand it... sand it again... then again... paint it, let it dry lol or just leave it looking all unfinished and trashy like that. Just to hide a few Wires lol 🤟😏
Hi man, great videos! How do you secure your media walls to the floor? Do you anchor them or just gripit? Worried about the DPC depth under finished floor level. Cheers! Stay safe.
Hey Richie, I personally think it’s best to anchor the base frame to the floor. Sometimes it’s not always possible though so if not then grip fill is a great shout 👍🏻
@@mediawalls2u cheers for the fast reply mate! I’m starting our build tomorrow first thing. How deep can I go into our living room slab without fear of damaging the DPM? Cheers!
Going to say the tv is too high. Common design mistake especially when the couch is that close to the tv, people are going to think they have got viagra stuck in their throat.
I had a question if there’s no studs behind sheet rock where we want the edges to be against the wall can we put some 2x6s in between both outer 2x4 and add another 2x6 overlapping each other and screwing those 2x6s on the inner studs to support the wall? I was able to screw top and bottom plates along with joists but I’m worried of it not supporting it since it doesn’t have those two 2x4s screwed on vertically besides top and bottom plate.
Are those boards or drywall that you screwed on at the end as coverings? I’m gonna start my project soon and need to do something exactly like this. I have a 60 inch fireplace and a 75 inch tv. Any tips? I’m a beginner.
Do you have a materials list and plans for this? Thinking of building one at home and not sure how much space needs to be between the fireplace and tv.
I don’t have a materials plan as every build is different, as a guide I’d suggest cls timber studwork, wood screws, raw plugs and fixing screws, plasterboards screws, plasterboard, most electric recessed fires blow the heat downwards from the front so a clearance I’d suggest maybe 200mm above for the tv
Hey buddy. Planning on wall mounting my tv but the area I’m mounting it on is right above 2 sockets. Any ideas re easy mounting without hitting the cables?
Very nicely done. I have been pondering doing something similar myself, but incorporated into a larger project to I;corporate about 50 or maybe 100mm internal wall insulation on a cold North facing wall. I have been reluctant to do it because we have a really nice traditional fireplace and mantle (we never ever used the fire as 90% of the heat went straight up the external chimney). Just trying to get my head round the ‘order of battle’ and then biting the bullet of taking out the rather beautiful fireplace. I had to laugh at some of the rather childish comments some have made to your short video - you should give them their money back🤣 Thank you for sharing your approach with us.😀👍

Looks great but the problem is ventilation for the tv. In time you will have to change the led strips sooner because of lack of ventilatio n.
It’s a 30mm gap all the way around which is more than enough for ventilation 👍🏻
Great work, how many length of 3 x 2 do you use on a standard media wall?. Thanks
Thank you. Anywhere between 14 and 20 depending on the size and requirements of the build

did you attach fireplace with regular point or run a new 1500w line?
Just wondering if you have the specs for this build
Where can I get the instructions
Which fire is that you used please?
Is it best to lay the stud directly over laminate or cut a section out of the laminate was to replaced down the line
You can always lay it on top and once built run a multi tool all the way around the edges of the laminate

I make slots for soundbar out of MDF rather than plasterboard as makes it so much easier
what is the thikness of the plywood 1/2 or 5/8
Mdf 12.5mm
How far did you kick it out off the wall
Usually upto 300mm depth

Total depth of the media wall is 300mm
