  • “Profiles in Literature” is a series of half-hour interviews with leading authors, illustrators, and editors of children’s books, originally recorded on video cassette starting in 1969. Programs were first viewed in Temple University’s Children’s Literature classes, but when other institutions requested them, distribution began.
The series originator and copyright holder was Dr. Jaqueline Schachter Weiss (1926-2021), Temple University Associate Professor-Emerita of children's literature. Interviews are conducted by Shachter Weiss and Mrs. Carolyn W. Field (1916-2010), Coordinator of the Office of Work with Children at the Free Library of Philadelphia and ex-president of the U.S. section of the International Board on Books for Young People.
Digital copies of these videos were a gift from Scott Shachter, in memory of Dr. Jaqueline Shachter Weiss, EdD.

This grainy and somewhat faded filmed interview has blessed the core of my creative soul today. I've loved Trina Schart Hyman's work since I was about 7 years old but had never seen her except for a few photographs before. Her work inspired me to pursue a career in illustration!

Trina Schart Hyman is a genius. I fell in love with her work because of a course on picture books I took during grad school and never went back. Thanks for uploading this!

This is amazing. I was born in '92, and I disocvered The Chronicles of Prydain during the late '90s when I was in elementary school, the Scholastic version. I still love them today in my thirties. RIP Lloyd Alexander. 🖤🖤🖤
