Played this at high school band camp. One of my favorite pieces to this day. It kinda feels like your watching an invisible movie in your head while listening
I played this in my Highschool band at Denver School of the Arts. We nailed it. I used to have a recording of it and it was amazing. Even for high school students, we put a lot of time and effort into making this perfect.
I'll never forget the snippets we played. Movement two, the Pride of Oviedo, the Marching Lions. The name of our show was What Dreams May Come, and this was "The Nightmare".
played this in high school, 4 percussionists for the job of 6-8 if I remember correctly, was a blast running from timpani to toms and everything in between!
I love this piece. We marched this at BOA when I was in high school and nailed it. I love how challenging that the piccolo part was :) this is still one of my favorite pieces
Played this in college. I was on bassoon at the time. We didn't have an English horn player to play that haunting English horn solo in the 3rd movement. Director turns to me and says, "Could you use your rare F mezzo-soprano saxophone for that horn solo?". I said, "Say no more".

The person who disliked it had an apocalyptic dream
isn't that the most satisfying feeling, when you're able to play an intense piece, and a group of youths end up sounding like matured adults?

I currently go there as a percussionist and we'll be playing this piece this year in the High School Wind Ensemble.
