The problem is these cabs are only worth the lowest sale price they drop to. A sale for $50 or $100 off is of course reasonable after time, but to have these things go for $400 off the regular $700 price destroys the market on these things and creates a very hesitant buyer in future sales. Make a fair price for the market and stick close to it during the sale times.
Yeah, imo $700 was never realistic for anything other than a pro level cabinet. IIRC Simpsons and X Men were 700 at one point and Fast and Furious at 750 or so. Craziness and they should have known that would not sell.
Exactly how I am now. I paid the full $600 for Blitz at launch. Never again, and I will say that it didnt have to really do with the cab itself. I love the Blitz cab and still play it regularly to this day but If I knew they would be dropping to like $300-$400 just a few months after launch I would have waited.
Have 9 of these cabs in our bar room. I'm the only one that plays them. I've had a few guests step up and play them. Most people just sit down and look at them. Younger teenagers that my kids bring over just don't seem interested. They'll say, wow this is awesome, then they sit down in our theater seating and would rather watch a movie on the big screen... 🤷🏻♂️ Guests my age play them, especially after a drink.
The reason Pac-Man keeps selling is very simple: It's PAC-MAN. Pac-Man is THE arcade game. It is THE most common nostalgia trigger for classic games. It is THE most reliable thing to get people into old-school games if they've never played them before. Every day hundreds if not thousands of people discover or re-discover Pac-Man and develop or re-develop an appreciation for this stuff. The market for Pac-Man never stagnates. It is always there waiting to indulge. ...The A1U Pac-Man cabs COULD still use some variety in the supporting lineup, though.
Guess so! I definitely thought demand for Pac cabs would be depleted by now yet here we are. I think 1up dramatically overestimated public awareness of titles outside of Pac, MK, SF, though.
Unqualified Critics, Good insight as always. I've always agreed with you, space is a major factor and running out of it isn't a myth. Near the very beginning of Arcade1Up's run, I gave them a sales pitch, to create a vehicle to allow the ability to add new games to existing cabinets, so those who didn't have the room, could get new games. I actually pitched it to their Lead Engineer at the time, this was before they had an actual support system in place. We had a great time discussing all sorts of possibilities and he said he'd send my ideas to their creative department. Suffice it to say, I never heard back, though I didn't really expect to :) I think you might get a kick out of that pitch I gave them, which is a chapter in my video review for the Arcade1up Namco Pac-Man Legacy Edition, which also includes a review for the new Deluxe and XL editions as well. Here is a link to that chapter if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/Oy2AfzESDR8/v-deo.html And just in case you were wondering, yes, this is a new account, but the same old VideoGameVegas. I created it to replace my old account when I started making content. It's great that I can now interact with my favorite creators and now show them things I only talked about in comment sections. Really great to hear from you from time to time! vgv
Their loss for not listening. They needed to build a marketplace from those 2m cabs instead they went all in on never ending new cabinet sales and gave us a marketplace for.. board games. And congrats on the channel!
Thanks man! It's been a fun ride. My first video was of my Home Arcade! Took quite awhile with all its intricacies, but I was so glad I got to share with people what I was only describing before. I'm looking forward to when you get to do a new tour! Have a great one! vgv
My wallet and game room would be OK with no new cabinets 🤣. I have most of what I want and I don't think they will build the other cabinets I would want: Spy Hunter, Hydro Thunder and Afterburner.
I just think if that were sustainable for the non jank Walmart exclusive cabs (no riser, no lit marquee), they would have done it by now. The pressure on them from retailers to cut prices this past year must have been enormous with all that inventory floating around.
Audio/video sync is slightly off on mine but it’s not bad, also cab was shipped with a faulty control deck(didn’t connect at all, but A1up shipped me a replacement very quickly and worked fine.
I love Arcade1up products. I have 12 cabinets despite have a PC build arcade. They are just easier to set up and operate. My 3 year old can turn it on himself and start playing.
I like them for what they are too. I had a total of 22 but I sold seven of them with two more out the door now and I will only replace with pro or XL cabinets. I’m done buying and selling. I went through three Mortal Kombat two Pac-Man’s And I got rid of most of my 4 player cabinets because to me to make no sense only kept The Simpsons because the kids gravitate to that for some reason probably should’ve kept turtles too but I did get rid of it. The sad reality is unless if I have company, nobody plays the cabinets I like looking at them but no one plays them. My nine year-old son can’t stand the old looking graphics. He makes fun of them he used to switch and PlayStation five games and I don’t blame him in a way, it’s decoration at this point, but I will wait for the pro or the XL I have the KI pro that is what I’m waiting for now.
I have two party cades and really enjoy them. I’m rocking the ms pac and defender. solid machines. I have my eye on the new MK2 cab. It’s so goddamn nice. But, i’m starting to get tight on space and will have to shuffle things around a bit. I can only fit one more machine. Oh, and the game table is really nice. It’s a bit on the pricy side. I mean, i think it’s more than a PS5 at this point. That is insane imo. great points made in your video. I agree with everything you said.
Ultimarc has what is basically an analog joystick that can be mapped 2/4/8-way or 49-way or analog. If A1up could use their Blitz 49-way stick in a more 'general' cabinet, you could map the diagonal directions for a Q*Bert using software. You wouldn't have the physical gate, but it'd work, and you could still have other games... They spent the development money to make the 49-way, why not use it again?
Not familiar with rosevillerepear and I don't know that cabinet but tbh (and sadly) I don't expect pixel perfect emulation and lots of these cabinets have compromises. And since its a fighting game, if pulling off certain moves is compromised, that's inexcusable but also in the past fixed with swapping out the control sticks. Their standard sticks are absolutely not good enough for fighter cabs and I say that as someone who is not really into fighters.
@@UnqualifiedCritics He's got a video on it, showing the issue and showing it across several revisions of the original game, and the inconsistencies with AC1up. He's one of the strongest MK1 players on Fightcade.
I bought the MK Legacy Edition Arcade 1up at Walmart for 600$ 😮 I wish 200$ not worth 6 bills even with riser. I would like a golden axe cab but ones enough for my space issues
The "right size" is XL, for sure... same height and depth as Deluxe, and only 3.25" wider. So, bigger screen, bigger control deck, and more stable. That's what the VAST majority of fans want (at least according to surveys). That's what they *should be doing going forward.
I would say they might want to release more/different countercades and Partycades. They are smaller and cheaper and you can buy more. Sort of like what MyArcade is showing at CES now. I really like the Partycades because it’s essentially the same size screen as the full size just no “box” underneath it and nothing to build.
Yeah the growth of MyArcade is interesting if they can up their quality a little bit. but them growing into those slightly larger (compared to their past products) form factor suggests to me 1up isn't doing that.
Fast & the furious was always gonna sell well for them. Just look at the fan base they pump out average movie after average movie and each one makes more money.
@@pxp751 I don't think it's ending just yet but there haven't been any exciting breakthroughs in a while. I want to see new entrants building cabinets or exotic new titles, but I don't really expect either any time soon tbh
@UnqualifiedCritics sounds like the same plateau the cell phone industry has reached. The iPhone 10 - 15 were all the same thing basically with tiny changes.

I think 499 is the highest very rare occasion 599 definitely no more than that

My man. Hydro Thunder is one of my all time favorite racers and I still play the dreamcast port on xbox occasionally
Spy hunter forsure
Wow…these three, especially Hydro and Afterburner are about as instant a buy as I can say and that’s with already owning over 20 cabs!!!
The price point of $299 is what they need to find a way to get to and stick to. Without doing that they don’t have a future. $399-499 for an XL maybe.
I just think if that were sustainable for the non jank Walmart exclusive cabs (no riser, no lit marquee), they would have done it by now. The pressure on them from retailers to cut prices this past year must have been enormous with all that inventory floating around.
They need to fix the Dragon's Lair.

Ease of use and the visual appeal of the cabinet is 90% of why they've sold 2 million cabinets imo

Maybe today’s kids will like old arcade games if they are cartoonish like Turtles and Simpsons, and maybe Dragon’s Lair.

Thoughts on the RosevilleReaper showing the MK1 Rom either is having emulation issues, or it is an altered (not arcade accurate rom).

I will no longer buy this garbage … Either they do new titles or they will die rehashing is destroying their loyal customer base …
The rehashes are indeed beyond old but I'm skeptical they can sell the other titles profitably, especially after these results from last year
