  • Hi folks this is a moment in time like no other we’ve ever seen. The video was taken of the Promenade at Aberystwyth. We moved to Aberystwyth at Christmas 2019 during the coronavirus crisis. My home is one of the houses in the video so I haven’t travel by car to get here. We live here and take a walk along the prom most days. My wife and I moved to Aberystwyth as it’s a vibrant university town pack with life and vitality, or at least it usually is. Aberystwyth is on the west coast of Wales and has been a popular holiday destination for many generations. I just wanted to capture the scene and share it with everyone around the world. I also want to say thank you for everyone who is keeping the essential wheels turning, power, water, waste and of course a special thank you to the doctors and nurses and medical support folk who are really putting themselves before others. At this time our supermarkets well managed and well stocked and shoppers are orderly and respectful, thanks you for that guys. This is not intended to be a fully fledged list of everyone who deserves our thanks as I guess there will be people doing things I never realised needed to be done to keep the wheel turning. Anyway you will know who you are and how your efforts contribute for the good of others at this awful time. 'Thank you' to you all. Good luck to everyone wherever you are in the world. Kind Regards . . . Andy

      Hi there I was sure that I'd responded to you comment but I can't see it now. Our previous home was in a nice spot but it was just too quiet. Aberystwyth, in normal times, is a vibrant place, it's a university town with cafes and beaches and a good Arts Centre and plenty more. Stay safe in these crazy times. All the best . . . Andy

      Hi Dennis how the devil are yo doing? I've been busy designing our new house, man it's taken a loooong time but we wanted to do our own thing and we couldn't find a local architect on our wavelength so we did it all ourselves. It's grate to get what you want at the price you want rather than running out of money trying to chase an architects dream scheme. WE watch all of the British self build house programs and the all run out of money, get pregnant and overrun the time scale. We avoided the first two but the time scale will only drag out while we wait to get the outside of the house painted, due to the virus outbreak. All the best . . Andy

      Hi Dennis I did do a lengthy reply to your comment but it seems to have disappeared. I did a long response to Rick (AllAmericanfieveRadio) but I can only see part of that now. Must be that pesky virous getting in there. I hope that you are well my friend and that things get back to as near to normal as soon as possible. All the very best . . . Andy

    love the beach scene.
    how much longer is lockdown for your area?
    lots of debate here in states that this may have been overdone, that "next time" there will be more effective quarantine of those who are sick, just like when we were kids.washing hands more frequently, distancing still effective.

      Hi there we don't know what will happen here. Our Prime minster Boris Johnson is just back in office after being in hospital with Coronavirus and he will be advising the nation as to what the next key factors will be in about two hours time (at 5:00pm 30th April 2020) but I don't think he will tell us when there'll be any ease up on restrictions as it's got to be a play off between what's best for public and health workers wellbeing and the economy. And that's one hell of a big decision when you can't really predict the future. I wouldn't want to make the call, I think the expression, 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' comes to mind. What ever he says not everyone will like it. What is it you say in the states, 'You can please some of the people some of the time. . . etc.' My jobs easy tonight, all I've got to decide when to start cooking supper. Stay safe. All the best. . . Andy

      Well our Prime minister has said that we are over the peak of the epidemic and we will have a plan for coming out of lockdown next week. So we'll have to wait and see. I think it's going to be a long slow process with a few backward steps along the way. One thing for sure, everyone will be an expert after the event. All the best . . . Andy

      Hi Rick all the very best to you. Over the last three and a half years we've been busy designing and building our new home in Aberystwyth. We didn't use an architect we designed and drew anything ourselves. We just had a structural engineer on the steel framework and a guy to submit our drawings in to the planning office. We researched everything ourselves from the ground up, the lightening conductors, the window sizes, building regulations the lot. I drew it up using SketchUp, I had to learn how to forget AutoCAD in order to use SketchUp but we have been able to predict the sun and shadow through every window. We used a good local builder and his local team of tradesmen, a lot of fun and the best thing that we've done so far. Man why do we have to get old? I'd love to do it all over again.
      Good to hear from you Rick, all the very best to you and your family. Stay safe!
      Kind Regards . . Andy

      @@AndyDaviesByTheSea Hey Andy, I thought you would be busy, but WOW. Doing your own architecture and drawings on your new home is fantastic. Predicting the sun shine though every window should save energy. I did take a class at Wake Tech on SOLIDWORKS, an amazing CAD program. I know what you mean about getting older. Just last week I was taking to my brother. I said how did this happen, it was just yesterday we were playing wiffle ball behind the house. I hope you take lots and lots of pictures of your new house, it would make some very interesting videos. Kind Regards .. Rick

This video was straight off the camera/phone to UA-cam but there no easy way on UA-cam to join several videos together and they've stopped me from uploading from Adobe editor so to make a good I video I have to convert the data a couple of times and it's boring.Take care my friend and stay safe in these crazy times. Hi Gary I don't know where you are but certainly over here on the west coast of Wales in Aberystwyth people are being very carful. As we walk along the prom folks will step aside and give each other at least 6ft (2 metres) of clear space. We're lucky we've got the space to do that but even in the shops and supermarkets folk are being very good. I guess we all want to avoid this bug. Initially I thought lets hurry up and get it and get some immunity to it but when you see young folk loosing their lives to it it has to make one think 'just how venerable am I?'Stay Safe Gary. All the best . . .Andy

      @@AndyDaviesByTheSea Hey Andy, I should have said. I'm in Southern Indiana in the States. I wear mask, nitrile gloves and a good pair of wrap around safety glasses when I go out, but I've noticed as I've simply taken a drive (alone and not stopping anywhere) the amount of people out and about in our rural community and I think to myself that there is no way on earth all these people can be out on essential business. Many of them aren't even wearing a mask. Personally I have a compromised immune system so I quite imagine if I get it then I'll be in trouble. To top things off they began easing restrictions today which to me seems insane. I'll personally be staying at home as much as I possibly can until there's a vaccine. I'm fortunate to live in a rural area with a large back garden so at least I can get outside. Take care my friend, Gary

    • @AndyDaviesByTheSea
      @AndyDaviesByTheSea  4 роки тому +1

      OK Gary sorry for the delayed response. I don't know how long it'll take for us to get through this thing. I guess we can only stop folk from working for so long and then everyone will have to travel and inevitably get close to one another. The damage to the economy is going to take a long time to mend. In the UK they are just beginning to ease back a bit on the restrictions. I Wales where I live they will open garden centres on Monday 11th May (2020) but they have to comply with social distancing rules (keeping two metres, that's about 6Ft, away from each other.) All restaurants and cafes remain closed but the good news is there's no shortage of power, water, communication facilities or food, (or toilet rolls!! Why on earth was there a worldwide shortage of loo rolls? ) Stay safe. All the best . . . Andy

      Hey I love the hustle and bustle of the place,(Aberystwyth) our previous home in Aberporth was very nice but really too tranquil, we were surrounded by sheep and you could die there and no one would notice. I guess most places around the world have this strange tranquility about it. How quickly nature takes over when we give it a chance. I a few weeks we have seen a change in the wild life.
      All the best . . . Andy
