Best movie I’ve seen in years hands down. Extremely moving. Fabulous performances. Like the reviewer in this video, I was emotionally shattered by it and yet it was so beautiful, so touching and so life affirming in an unexpected sort of way.
Wonderfully said, probably the most emotionally effective film of 2023 imo 🙌🙌🙌
Although i’m upset that this film was snubbed, I feel like it will only further cement it’s cult classic status in the future. Thank you so much for this review! I found it such a cathartic experience and it’s helped me to refocus on my own grief in life and contemplate the dreams I threw away out of fear long ago. Masterpiece

I couldn’t wait for this film to open and I saw it on a cold Monday afternoon and was the only person in the theatre-my sense of aloneness added to the dream like quality of the film and I absolutely fell into the story-it was one of the few times I’ve ever cried in a movie and you’re right-I will never forget the experience of watching this extraordinary and moving work of art 👍🏻 Very disappointed but not surprised that it was ignored by Academy voters- all four leading actors gave Oscar worthy performances and Andrew’s direction was simply superb. Thank you for your review, I hope you are urging all of your friends and followers to see it-I am certainly trying to spread the word!

This movie wrecked me as well…or honestly I think it untangled a bit of the loneliness I was carrying and I find myself reaching out to others that have seen it to connect. So wonderful to see others getting all weepy with me. ❤

I love all your shirts. I've heard this movie uses one of my all-time favorite songs, "Always on my Mind" by Pet Shop Boys so I'm excited to see how it uses that!

Thank you so much for your review. I also watched this without knowing what it was about & this film impacted on me so much. I cried while watching & felt shattered at the end. When the lights came back up I could tell that everyone felt the same.. People remained rooted to their seats longer than I have seen in a cinema for a very long time. I really want everyone to watch it. The 4 actors were all so great & their performances were so natural & unforced. It’s been 2 days since I watched it & it has stayed on my mind. I need to watch it again

The film is a masterpiece and will very soon be considered a classic. Andrew Scott is the greatest UK actor of our time, with Paul Mescal well on his way to taking the torch when the time comes.

I agree completely that Andrew Haigh is a very special writer/director: I've really loved his previous film & TV projects -- Weekend, 45 Years, Looking, Lean On Pete and The North Water -- and AOUS represents a leap into an emotionally intense universe that is unforgettable. I'm not sure why you omitted the wonderful Claire Foy from the list of actors at the start. (And Paul Mescal's last name is pronounced "MESS-cull" 🙂)

thanks for appreciating and publicizing this wonderful film--- actors, director, adapted script, art direction, editing--- that Hollywood/The Oscars totally ignored.
I absolutely agree there, but of course the Oscars overlook palpable and raw explorations of the human experience, and instead focus on films that tick the most basic of boxes

I just finished watching AOUS and still processing. It was so vulnerable. They were robbed in the awards season. A great work.

Phenomenal film. I wanted to see this ever since the trailer was released. Had to drive an hour from my podunk town when I finally saw it playing nearby.
I was enthralled. I was almost disappointed that I didn’t feel more, feel a greater impact. I expected to be in tears. I did sniffle some. But the nature of the premise, and then that final twist are such that… it wasn’t a cathartic cry. It hit me in waves after I got to my car. Really mature and restrained approach to the themes, which is weird to say, because of the fantastical elements. Deep, meaningful impact in this film. Got me to ponder my own extreme loneliness from a lot of angles.

Agree with your assessment. This film perfectly captured the hopelessness we humans can feel during grief. The pacing was perfectly slow - it draws you in like waves on a beach. You are seeing these humans connect with familial connections and romantic connections, and it brings up universal feelings of regret and more importantly - to cherish the human connections we have WHEN we have them. Our time is limited on this earth. All 4 performances were stellar. I am so angry that this film was ignored by the Academy. I just can't understand it.

So pissed…it was offered in only one theatre in Charlotte, N.C. and was available for a few days. Consequently, I missed seeing it and sorely disappointed.

I can’t shake this movie. The ending hits like a ton of bricks and I’m still not sure if it was happy or brutally sad.
For me, I felt a lot of melancholy by the end of the film, really such a poignant ending
