Last night it occurred to me that God made man in His image and called Adam and Eve together man so both man and woman are absolutely equal in God's eyes. The notion that God is therefore strictly a masculine figure is false because both man and woman were created together in His imagine. The reason I believe that God is referred to as Him is because of the family structure and the authority figure that men have historically represented. Like a stranger approaching a home on the prairie would ask to speak to the man or authority of the household. Sex is based solely on sex and is essential for procreation but spiritually irrelevant.
Buck Anderson I have these thoughts too. When I read the Gospels, I see Jesus treating men and women completely equally. I find it difficult that in the UK the independent evangelical church doesn’t have female pastors but they take more minor roles. What a loss for both the men and women in the congregation! With gifted women preachers like Marion, I really don’t understand why this is so. They don’t have female deacons either which is strange because Phoebe was a deacon, spoken of in the New Testament. 🤔 puzzled
