I was introduced to Jane by the Bridgeport (CT) Post, which I used to deliver. They mentioned her name alongside Sinead O"Connor, Kate Bush and someone else. That was enough to make me buy The Walking. I've loved her music tremendously ever since and bought as many of her albums as I could find, which wasn't easy.
Everyone in the band is incredible especially Anne Bourne the keyboardist. Jane is beyond incredible. This song always gives me a lift and I heed the advice. Little kids love it. The set is so Peewee's Playhouse.
It's sooooo good to see this video again!!! :) Jane is the ultimate artist... I admire her deeply and have been following her career and music since 1984... Jane, you are absolutely WONDERFUL!!!
Haven't seen this video in ages. The album this is off (The Walking) is one of my top three albums ever, and that's including the many, many hundreds of classical, jazz, pop, rock, world music and avant-garde recordings I've ever listened to. Thank you for posting it. I don't know if I wish Jane Siberry had become more famous because, like so many people, it might have ruined her - but I do wish that she could have more recognition. She is a rare genius. And this is a great silly song.
the 1st time I saw Jane -- at a small club in Burlington, VT -- the show was as much fun visually as it was brilliant musically. with the back-up singers and their props, giant hammers and such. to this day, she continues to amaze. so grateful here.
This video was directed by Jean Baptiste Mondino..... the same dude that directed "Open Your Heart" for Madonna and "C'est Comme C'a" for Les Rita Mitsouko
I had totally forgotten just how beautiful she was. The beautiful voice, the beautiful lyrics, the beautiful personality, yes. Those I remembered but I had forgotten the physical beauty too. She was such a ray of light! It saddens me deeply that she has abandoned the playfulness of this song, the deep revealing lyrics The Walking, and all of those things that were universal and has now turned her concerts into such an empty and selfish event. When I last saw her my heart was ripped out at the loss of all that grace that has now been replaced by the broken record repetition of "god". It's sad but at least I get to look back on all of these treasures with thanks. Thank you for the upload.
+Propin Quity I've seen her twice as Jane and once as Issa. The first two concerts were fun, enjoyable events, and religion-free, so to say that I shouldn't have gone to see Jane Siberry perform in concert because I might not want to hear "god" is ridiculous. She doesn't even get religious on her xmas album! The last time I saw her was in Ottawa during a rainy day a couple of summers ago when the godbombardment happened. It started with a "god is great, god is good" at the end of her first couple of songs & grew to alternations of that with "thank you god for everything" (or words to that effect), at the end of EVERY SINGLE LINE in the songs toward the end of the concert. If she had meds, she was clearly off them that night. Maybe you enjoy 5 words about god for every 8 words of song. I went to see a treasured artist sing treasured songs just like this one, above.
I know. Ive heard her music in the 80's (High school) now i just love her voice and music. I was like 13-17, heard her music off and on, now I Love Jane. im 37 now.
I hope that her album The Walking will get a second life someday and that it will be known and highly appriciated in wider circles, because I think it.'s one of the most beautiful records ever made. On my record-shelf it stands next to Bach and Miles Davis. Over here in Holland only a handfull of people know her name, and those people don't work in CD-shops, I checked. It's ridiculous that such an impressive talent is totally unkown in large parts of the world. Let's act, and help her.
Ditto. Thanks for posting this! I have no idea why, but I've always loved this quirky/ecletic video. Say what you will about Jane, but she's never been afraid to take chances with her music and the visuals.
i met Jane in Starbucks near the Chelsea hotel last year. She walked past me and smiled, twice! I had to stop her and ask her: are you Jane Siberry? and then she told me all about how she had changed her name and sold all her stuff so that she could move about and be freer. She is one of the hidden greats of the 80's. I love this song, its so quirky and fun! thanks Jane for some great years of music. love ya!
Yeah, I agree...she should be better known but KD Lang has brought a lot of people to her in the last few years, which is great. And KD is very generous with her praise of Jane... And thanks to Jane I have discovered the wonderful Karin Bergquist of Over The Rhine...and so it goes on!
I love the bass playing on this, it's very free, but it fits right in without trying to take over. Was that Dave Switzer - ? And I absolutely die for Ken Myr's guitar playing - understated here, but a perfect chime in support of the melody. He was born to play with Jane - did he ever do much with other artists?
I love her music, although I don't listen to it too often because I find too emotional. I think she deserved more commercial success. I wonder why she hasn't become as popular as Tori Amos.
Jane helped me survive the end of the 1980s by listening to her CDs all through the 90s.

Me too! Was it the article about "art rockers"?
Really nice to revisit Jane after all these years (30+). Incredible music!!!!!!
The Walking is quite a piece of work. Complex, moving, cinematic... It was so different from the stuff I usually listened to as a 16 year old !
Everyone in the band is incredible especially

Without any exaggeration one of the best albums ever.
This is one of the happiest things Mondino has ever directed!

Exactly how I imagined that song. It has never been my favorite, considering the others on The Walking, but you know what? I like it more now.
she truly amazes me. Such talent like her's is very hard to find and she is in a class of her own........brilliant lady.

love this and album, used to listen to it constantly 1'000's of times. It's still great! (this coming from a prog rock drummer)
I just love Jane so much. I'm seeing her this weekend!

Hi, I’m from 11 years in the future and we’re still waiting for a wider appreciation of this masterpiece. :) Maybe someday.
I love this video! Such powerfully upbeat happiness with a quirky arty bent. Great combination of Optimism and Creativity.

so much talent for this world
Would love it if k.d. lang did a cover of this - or a reboot duet with Siberry - two legends...I think the world might explode!
Back in the late 80's this song was my introduction to Jane (now Issa) - and I've loved her ever since.
heeeeeee called her Margaret.......
flippin awesome
It's so stupid that I LOVE it.
I love the bass playing on this, it's very free, but it fits right in without trying to take over. Was that Dave Switzer - ?

Happy Birthday Jane
come on Canada, SWAGGER!!!!!!!
Why is "The White Tent, The Raft" not added to this great list of her songs?
I love her music, although I don't listen to it too often because I find too emotional.
I think she deserved more commercial success. I wonder why she hasn't become as popular as Tori Amos.
what a beautiful woman ❤ her face I mean
80s middle class bohoemians were so...awkward.
But i love it.
@JimHarmatz LOL
But that presumes there is a guiding principle. Any number of talented, funny people don't think there is.
Not the stuff of movies and I'll be the Indian
