Prince was the soundtrack of my young adult years. I was so sad when he passed. He was so talented and 100% one of a kind. I guess we were lucky to have him as long as we did.
Same here… I have never been upset about a musician or celebrity dying but Prince… It was as if someone I knew personally had passed away 😢 Whitney was another favorite of mine and I was really sad but not like when Prince died.
PRINCE IS A TOTAL ICON! PURPLE RAIN IS A TRUE MASTERPIECE AND I ALWAYS AM MESMERIZED WHEN I HEAR THIS SONG! I WILL ALWAYS TREASURE HIS MUSIC IN MY HEART!
This was the soundtrack for the summer of 84. Loved his music but never really realized what an immensely talented artist Prince really was, until I was a little older...one of the best ever❤
Let's Go crazy was the first song that started the movie. PR was near the end followed by Baby I'm a Star.... Billy Sparks with the Detroit Tigers hat, was from Detroit and he was very influential in Prince's early career . Detroit was Prince's biggest fan base outside of Minneapolis from day one. Prince's music from the beginning was hand-delivered to a DJ here named the electrifying Mojo and we got EVERYTHING first.
Watching this now always brings a tear to my eye. His untimely death was one of the world's greatest losses. Gone way too soon - forever missed. RIP Prince.
I never realized until a few years ago that this song wasn’t recorded in a studio! It was recorded live from a benefit concert at First Avenue in Minneapolis. That version was about 13 minutes long and edited down to what we know today. It was also the first time Prince’s new band The Revolution had performed together at a show and Purple Rain was one of six new songs they debuted. Just incredible, and a testament to Prince’s talent as well as the rest of the band.
I was fortunate enough to see Prince twice in concert. Indianapolis & Chicago. Two of the BEST live shows I've ever seen & I've seen over 70 artists live.
Purple Rain is one of my favorite songs from Prince he really turned it out on the Super Bowl halftime performance when played Purple Rain in the rain that was super awesome 🤩
Did you know that Journey’s “ Faithfully” inspired Purple Rain? Prince asked them if they minded. Journey was thrilled and said “ no problem!” Prince’s Super Bowl show was one of the very best of all time!!!!❤❤❤
I read somewhere that he got the title from the band America's 1972 hit song Ventura Highway, there a line in the song that goes: Wishin' on a falling star Watchin' for the early train Sorry boy, but I've been hit by Purple rain......don't know if its true or not but I think Prince was a fan of America.......
I'm telling you I could go on and on and on and write an essay about Prince but I won't lol.... But he's a bad man for real!! Prince wrote everybody's music , his own, The Time and Vanity 6 . Purple Rain was Prince's 5th album. You guys want to hear a banger for real ?? then you need to check out 1999 !! That album is straight fire from beginning to end. All right I'm going to go ahead and shut up lol. I really love you guys and I hope you dig deep into the Prince rabbit hole because there's a bunch of amazing music there.
I grew up listening to Prince. Purple Rain is one of my fave songs by him. This man was soo talented. Read he could play over 20 musical instruments. We lost a legend 😢
Prince was a major part of my childhood. My dad absolutely loved Prince. He was always puzzled how an artist like him pulled so many women 😂 Awe put his album will forever be in my memory and heart. 💜
1984. Tulsa, Oklahoma. Friday Purple Rain opened. Mom, I’m sick can’t go to school. She heads out to work. I head out to Eastland Mall, sneak in thru the back(always) and hide behind the screen until it’s show time and ease on into middle middle area seat and watch this glorious flick. I was in fourth grade and back in those days, Truancy Officers would snatch your lil a$$ up and take you to school, hence the stealth tactics. Only Prince was worth that kind of trouble. Forever in my Life…
The man was so prolific he had to come up with side projects to not oversaturate the market with himself. And so not only does the movie feature his own music, but all the music by The Time and Apollonia 6 (and Vanity 6 before them) was created by him too. The conflict he later had with his label was not just about royalties and ownership of the masters, it was as much about them not letting him release as much music as he wanted to. The Purple Rain project is one of the two great crossovers by an African-American artist, (Thriller being the other). Introducing himself as a guitar hero in arena anthems such as this was key, and the movie really helped selling it. Props to The Revolution too, for putting in the countless hours of rehearsal and jamming that he always demanded of them. They had a much larger impact on his music than most people are aware of, especially Wendy and Lisa. I mean, just try to imagine this song without Wendy’s iconic guitar intro. Or Take Me With U without Lisa’s string arrangement. Legendary musicians and artists in their own right.
I read somewhere that he played every single instrument and sung his own harmonies on his first album, as well as self-recorded and mixed. That was a talented man and the world lost a great one.
One of the absolute best soundtracks ever made. Every song is amazing. I played this cassette on my walkman everyday in the 80's. Also own the movie. Pure classic
This was released just before my 18th birthday, it was played at all the club's, and everywhere we went to party. None of us was listening to Wham, at least not intentionally, when it came over the radio, we turned the dial🤣 I still find it hard to believe Purple Rain never hit the top.. Little Red Corvette was always played right after P.R.
His performance of this song on the 1985 American Music Awards was just phenomenal! You need to see it! In a room full of stars, his shined brighter that night!
So many well known hits from 80s never hit number one but are more known than number 1s. If u guys get a chance watch the video that shows all number 1s each month of the 80s, and even 90s! They also have the 2nd spot of each month.
This song was everywhere back in the day. MTV played the hell out of it too, back when they actually played music videos. If you're interested there are a number of tributes to Prince here on UA-cam by all kinds of artists after he passed. Two of my favorites are by Eric Clapton and David Gilmour.
The song that ends the movie is Baby, I'm a Star. Let's Go Crazy opens the movie. I have listened to the soundtrack every single day since I was 15yo, I am 51 right now.
Yall need to check out Sweet Thing with Prince & Chaka Khan! You also need to check out Batdance, I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man, Gett Off, Melody Cool with Mavis Staples, But probably one of the absolute best of his live performances is America, which he did in Oct 1985.
Wasn't it I would die for you? Let's go crazy was the beginning of the movie. Prince explained the meaning of 'Purple Rain' as: "When there's blood in the sky - red and blue = purple... purple rain pertains to the end of the world and being with the one you love and letting your faith/god guide you through the purple rain."
"Purple Haze "... Original subject and advertised as such but just like "The Rose" they couldn't get the copyrights for "Pearl" or "Purple Rain" and still did well.
Slight correction. The movie Purple Rain won best song score, not just the Purple Rain song, but all the scoring that Prince did himself for the whole movie.
I don’t care for his other work but this album is a masterpiece and one of my all-time favorites. In particular, I will stop and listen to this song anytime.☔️☔️☔️☔️☔️💜💜💜💜💜
The album version of this song was actually recorded live at First Avenue in Minneapolis. He added in the strings in the studio. You can actually still hear feedback at one section from the live performance. There is an actual video that some one took from that evening. ua-cam.com/video/q_sHFZWeOUo/v-deo.html With an extra verse that was cut for the album release. I have yet to see anyone react to this historic performance.
The song didn't win the Oscar it was the SCORE for the movie that won. Also after Purple Rain he performed Eye Would Die 4 U and Baby I'm A Star. Let's Go Crazy was the song that opened the film.
The man, the myth, the legend….the mustache 😂😂😂 I’m still so angry about his death I can’t even listen to him anymore….I need heavy metal to calm me down 😂😂
This came out as I was preparing to move and go to college. I went and saw the movie when I got moved, bought the record and wore it out after a couple of years so I had to buy another one. It touched me deeply because I had alcoholic parents and a physically abusive father towards my mom and us children. This song always makes me tear up.
For me his performance of this song at the Super Bowl Halftime show,in a rain storm was the best single performance of all Super Bowl shows period.
💯
Yes! The Super Bowl Half Time Performance is unforgettable! ❤️
Yes it was..probably in the top 5 of Superbowl performances
Absolutely
Best superbowl performance ever. Watch the documentary on it,,, prince was unreal.
Prince was the soundtrack of my young adult years. I was so sad when he passed. He was so talented and 100% one of a kind. I guess we were lucky to have him as long as we did.
Same here! We’re losing too many of them; Prince, Michael Jackson, Tom Petty & more. All gone too soon 😢
Same here… I have never been upset about a musician or celebrity dying but Prince… It was as if someone I knew personally had passed away 😢 Whitney was another favorite of mine and I was really sad but not like when Prince died.
There will NEVER be another Prince😢
Bronze, Silver and Golden ages are over - unfortunately this is the plastic age.
This song.. at the Super Bowl.. in the POURING rain is proof that God is a Prince fan..
I have heard this song dozens of times and it still gives me chills..Absolutely brilliant.
PRINCE IS A TOTAL ICON! PURPLE RAIN IS A TRUE MASTERPIECE AND I ALWAYS AM MESMERIZED WHEN I HEAR THIS SONG! I WILL ALWAYS TREASURE HIS MUSIC IN MY HEART!
Song sure make the tears fall.
The greatest musician ever!
This was the soundtrack for the summer of 84. Loved his music but never really realized what an immensely talented artist Prince really was, until I was a little older...one of the best ever❤
True. This band grabbed my heart and hasn’t let go. I saw them twice after he passed. It was a beautiful musical family reunion
Let's Go crazy was the first song that started the movie. PR was near the end followed by Baby I'm a Star....

Yes,and Billy did NOT own the club in real life. He’s just playing a role.
Watching this now always brings a tear to my eye. His untimely death was one of the world's greatest losses. Gone way too soon - forever missed. RIP Prince.

When I saw him, he didn't have any opener, and he played for 3 straight hours! He had a corvette, bed, and basketball court on the stage.
there will never be another I miss him still 😢 Great reaction fellows❤
I never listened to Wham’s song after it stopped playing on the radio.
I’ve never stopped listening to Purple Rain. It stands the test of time. 💜
Purple Rain is one of my favorite songs from Prince he really turned it out on the Super Bowl halftime performance when played Purple Rain in the rain that was super awesome 🤩

Purple Rain and the double album, 1999, are both perfect.
I love “honey I know I know times are changing…”
By far he was one of the most talented young men ever in my time. It’s bittersweet, joyful and sorrowful.
I'm telling you I could go on and on and on and write an essay about Prince but I won't lol.... But he's a bad man for real!! Prince wrote everybody's music , his own, The Time and Vanity 6 . Purple Rain was Prince's 5th album.

Exactly. I've been loving him since the release of Soft and Wet
Mozart, Beethoven, Bach and Prince! Musical geniuses! 💜💜💜💜
Prince and the Revolution was my very first concert. I was in the 9th grade 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Got this album, purple rain was a huge success in New Zealand.. thanks for the music Prince 🕊
This song and the movie made a 16 yr old want to live and eventually graduate from nursing school 4 yrs later.
One of the best songs ever.
Musical Genius!! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
No. The best performance ever was 1985 American music awards. Unreal. By far the best.
I absolutely agree! He blew the roof off that place! Standing ovation!
I grew up listening to Prince. Purple Rain is one of my fave songs by him. This man was soo talented. Read he could play over 20 musical instruments. We lost a legend 😢
I was in high school and camped out for a week to get tickets to this concert. Greatest ever!!!
Prince was a major part of my childhood. My dad absolutely loved Prince. He was always puzzled how an artist like him pulled so many women 😂
Awe put his album will forever be in my memory and heart. 💜

I like how Corey is like ‘this song is so good, “ and Fenom is like omg. And Olli is like Whoah so good.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

First Avenue, the legendary venue! I saw Cranberries on that stage.(by accident. Lol)
Prince's talent never escaped me.
Prince ❤️❤️❤️😇
I read somewhere that he played every single instrument and sung his own harmonies on his first album, as well as self-recorded and mixed. That was a talented man and the world lost a great one.
The world did not deserve him, yet he gave it his all.
One of the absolute best soundtracks ever made. Every song is amazing. I played this cassette on my walkman everyday in the 80's. Also own the movie. Pure classic
It is definitely top soundtrack
No guys, Prince ends it with "I Would Die 4 U & Baby, I'm A Star", he begins the movie with "Let's Go Crazy" but great reaction all around.
This was released just before my 18th birthday, it was played at all the club's, and everywhere we went to party. None of us was listening to Wham, at least not intentionally, when it came over the radio, we turned the dial🤣

Little Red Corvette was always played right after P.R.
One or my favorite artists of all time! I was 15 when it was released..
My favorite artist in the 80’s. Went to see him in my hometown in the Netherlands When I became 17
Anything you watch from this man, I’m in💜☔️
This album had such an impact back in the day! One of my favorites! I was blessed to be able to see him a couple times back in the 80’s!! ❤️
Ahh, Prince! The most talented! Sure miss him!
This is just one of those songs. Whenever I hear it everything else just stops.
I saw Purple Rain at the theater. His music is irresistible. I still miss him. #Legend
The Musicology album is loaded with funk.
His performance of this song on the 1985 American Music Awards was just phenomenal! You need to see it! In a room full of stars, his shined brighter that night!
It’s just stunning every damn time. It hits me deep.
Prince can shread the guitar. He was a master

So many well known hits from 80s never hit number one but are more known than number 1s.
If u guys get a chance watch the video that shows all number 1s each month of the 80s, and even 90s! They also have the 2nd spot of each month.
Say you wanna leader but you can’t seem to make up your mind. You better close it. Let me guide you.
To the Purple Rain
This song was everywhere back in the day. MTV played the hell out of it too, back when they actually played music videos.

I love Prince rip
Amazing guitar player and many other instruments
This man was the soundtrack of my life . He put out 39 albums in 38 years. Most of my Apple Music is Prince lol
The movie Purple Rain won an Oscar, the song won a Grammy and there were more wins and nominations . I can’t even remember what all there were.
WOMEN WANTED HIM; MEN WANTED TO BE HIM!!!❤

Your channel is legit, period. Beautiful music all the way. Keep it coming

Still sad about Prince's death. He meant so much to the world and certainly Minnesota.
The song that ends the movie is Baby, I'm a Star. Let's Go Crazy opens the movie. I have listened to the soundtrack every single day since I was 15yo, I am 51 right now.
🙏RIP PRINCE, THE PURPLE ONE🙏
Purple REIGN????🎸🎸🎸🎸

I enjoy the movie and the music in the movie
He was just the sh#t💜
Wasn't it I would die for you? Let's go crazy was the beginning of the movie. Prince explained the meaning of 'Purple Rain' as:
"When there's blood in the sky - red and blue = purple... purple rain pertains to the end of the world and being with the one you love and letting your faith/god guide you through the purple rain."
This movie played in the background of many teen sexcipades in the 80's.
One of the best ever written Song .
PS ; Watch the Movie , it's a great one

Really? Why not?
I like everything from Dirty Mind to Sign of the Times. Purple Rain and Sign of the Times are his best.

Fellas, U guys have to react to Prince When Doves Cry Music Video The Long Version.
He can slay on anything really but his guitar skills are awesome, you should check out, When my guitar gently weeps with David Bowie he killed it
I agree with Mike who commented below me. Best Super Bowl Half time show EVER. Ever. RIP Prince.
The song didn't win the Oscar it was the SCORE for the movie that won. Also after Purple Rain he performed Eye Would Die 4 U and Baby I'm A Star. Let's Go Crazy was the song that opened the film.
sign your name by [terence trent darby ] plz
Prince refused 2 do a song with Michael #peaceandstaywild
Prince. The only 5 foot 5 dude in makeup and high heels that can walk in to a club and steal every woman in there. Including the married ones.
At day of now. Id concider it a cult classic .. Only select few bands ventured into full film concept
I'm 69'er can Feel it

The man, the myth, the legend….the mustache 😂😂😂
I’m still so angry about his death I can’t even listen to him anymore….I need heavy metal to calm me down 😂😂
This is a "Come to Jesus" song, except it's not. It's a come to Prince song. And we all did. As we should.
Prince ALWAYZ gave credit 2 God & Jesus. N PURPLE RAIN, I WOULD DIE 4 U, GOD, etc.
Do songs win Oscars? 🤷
Yes, if they’re in movies.
Every year!
this song is food for the soul
💜
