Everyone lacks what Patti Lupone has! Stop comparing the current actresses to the past actresses. Caroline Bowman has an amazing voice and is totally capable of playing the part of Eva.
I saw this show last night in LA, and the cast does a great job. Ms. Bowman is the first woman Ive enjoyed seeing/hearing besides clips of LuPone. Bowman even found moments to really communicate on stage. Seeing her live, she can belt with passion and act and dance with beauty. Of course, I would have loved to see more Latino performers on stage since its a musical set in South America, so thats my main critique
I don't have a problem with her vocals, given that none of the actresses that came after LuPone would ever surpass her. But her dancing does seem a bit stiff, and I just don't see the complexity of Eva's character in her movement and facial expressions. Of course, I'm judging based on a 3min clip, but it just falls short of what I know about Eva Peron's life and the complexity (glamour + vulnerability + fierceness) that Madonna was able to portray in the movie. I also think the cast's youth is doing a disservice on that part. This is just my own opinion, and art is certainly a subjective thing, but I think I'm entitled to that after doing much research on Eva Peron and seeing many versions of this musical.
hmmm Ms Song, I have a feeling you're trying to dislike her bc you're so obviously not giving her a fair chance (you even semi admitt that in your comment). Come on, you can't judge Madonna's prerecorded and edited performance against a tiny clip of Caroline Bowman REHEARSING! Saw this last night in NC and thought she blew the iconic Madonna out of the water. This clip was good but it didn't do her actual preformance justice....as I'm sure a clip of Madonna rehearsing would not be the same as her final product. Madonna didn't have to sing live and she only had to nail it once for the film, but Bowman nails it night after night all year. Its a little premature of you to say she doesn't have the glamour/vulnerability/fierceness of the character lol...given this is a teeny tiny clip. I however, saw the actual performance and not only did she embody the character and show all those things & more, but her vocals and dance abilities are top notch. Also, Eva Peron was not as old as Madonna was or Patti LuPone. She was closer to Caroline's age. She was a very young woman like Bowman. The only reason other Eva's are all oldies is bc it's very hard to find a young actress good enough to play this role to it's fullest. By far...my all time fave Evita. CAROLINE FAN IN THE HOUSE!
Ah, the show that couldn't possibly re-cast Ricky Martin on Broadway and had to close rather than continue with a sub-par cast has somehow managed to find people good enough to lead a tour.

I saw Desi Oakley today at the 2pm performance and she was absolutely lovely. She has a beautiful voice.
Desi I saw first and then Caroline. Glad I got to see them both. I had my ticket before knowing when Desi would be on too.
So happy for Caroline!
Oh my goodness! It's Christopher Johnstone :-) I saw him as Lt. Cable in South Pacific, and he is such an amazing singer and actor :-)
she good no one compares to lupone or page but of all the recent actresses she up there her voice and acting is spot on
It was, but this is the tour of the brand new production that was just on Broadway.
Please come to pittsburgh!

OMG Josh Young :D
Caroline!!!!
Maybe it's just me, but most of the cast looks a little too young.
It's not a showy show lol
I don't like Caroline, at all. I wanna like her so bad though
She does not sound really good at all when you have a young Patti LuPone as the benchmark. Sorry!
