Welcome to the World Islands, perhaps the most expensive piece of failed architecture in history.
Dubai is a land full of technology, innovation and - in the case of the World Islands - severe disappointment.
Not long ago, these islands were the talk of the town. Nothing quite like them had ever been constructed, so it’s no wonder that they wound up as the poster-child for nearly every tourism advertisement imaginable.
But after the city funneled a staggering $14 billion into their development, the iconic landmark sat forgotten and abandoned, slowly being overrun by Mother Nature.
So, what happened? Where’d it all go wrong? And is there any hope left for this Dubai icon? Let’s find out.
For copyright matters please contact us at: legal@valnetinc.com
    ENTRIES/CHAPTER TIME CODES:
    00:00 Intro
00:42 The conceptualization of the islands
    01:51 Physically constructing the islands
02:39 Cost of 14 billion to build
    03:42 The failed aesthetic
04:28 Additional reasons for failure (Why they're empty)
05:53 Since the outset, only 9 islands have been built-up
    06:12 Hope is not lost
06:55 Dubai’s latest innovations are eclipsing the world islands anyway

I sort of knew from the inception that the World Islands Project would fail, why? The main reason was because Dubai was building too many costly projects at the same time. Burj Khalifa, Palm Jumeirha, World's biggest Mall, the rail network, Ferrari Amusement park, Dubai International Airport and the likes. Already too many people had invested in these other projects, so injecting money into the world islands was going to be a financially depleting project, which Muhammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum knew but because he already took successful risks, he thought that the world islands project too would be successful.
There are so many things happening in Dubai that not every tourist can afford to do in one visit. Dubai is not competing with any city in world in terms of development and growth. To ensure longevity, they need to tone it down a bit, relax, finish the projects they are doing and market them, reduce their cost of living, for both locals and tourists and it will flourish.

Instead of building homes on them, see if they can grow plants to stave erosion. Then build a utility bridge that runs the parameter, that would double as an outline, defining continents, not necessarily fully around but sections. Then Build the buildings on stilts like the canals of europe, other buildings like floating villages of asia. Then some buildings on isolated islands.
