The shanked down rocker shaft bolt is very important . Oil comes in from the oil gallery to the rocker shaft and then to all the rocker arms

Always run a straight edge across the tops of the valve stems. In a good valve job, they will all touch down the line.
Reason is, the FE has no valve adjustment. So this is important to have the right lifter preload.

  • @karljay7473

One of the great things about the FE is that the heads are really small compared to other BB engines. They're some 60% of the size of the 460/396 heads and that means that more of the intake runner can be changed out by changing the intake manifold. Performer RPM or air gap is a pretty good choice.
Surprised to see someone do one head on a V8. The S code intake isn't the worse intake, but you can drop some 50 lbs by going with an after market intake. You can also do a lot of good by ditching the exhaust and going with some headers.

Guys some advice. Never add hardened seats .its a biullshit. Fix . Step up to the largest valve you can go to ..step down 2 or 3 sizes. Have head ground for new valves .presto done. Add some 2 stoke oil to your gas that will cushion you vale to head impact. You will get 60.000 to 80.000 thousand. Use compressed air to blow the head off. I used one but I'd recommend two spark plug holes. I was able to find a fitting and air coupler nipple at the hardware store that fit the spark plug thread. Works like a champ. A must use if you're popping an aluminum head.

Did you really only do the one head ? when you have a head milled, should you not have done both ? Next time maybe get three friends to help you lift the manifold, that sucker looked heavy. LOL

All that work and you only took one head off? Should have taken both off and had them both resurfaced, new valves, 3 angle valve job, new head ,intake and valve cover gaskets. Also you do not have to remove the water pump to get that little hose off because your removing the intake and it will come off with the intake. I have even replaced that hose without removing the water pump or intake. Not easy but it can be done. Now with that all said, if money was a factor in this situation then I understand why you only did one side. If not then hell you should have had those cast iron heads ported and polished with larger valves. Better yet just purchase a Edelbrock Upper end kit and gained a couple hundred horse power. Just saying. 😁
