Being a big Deep Purple fan for half a century, I always enjoy watching this video. Hard to believe that Li-sa-X was only 12 at the time. Love watching Saki play mother and push Li-sa-X forward on the stage at the end. Saki is the one that always forms the Guitar Girls Collective.
This festival was created by one of the oldest if not the oldest female metal bands Show-Ya back in 1987-1991. It exclusively showcases Japan's female rock bands and artists. It went away during the 1990s but came back in 2008 and then annually since 2013. Show-Ya formed in 1981 and most of the original members are still together. They are quite influential when it comes to female rock/metal bands in Japan. They are the godmothers of Japanese rock as X Japan and Loudness are the godfathers. Or The Blue Hearts for Japanese Punk. More Japanese bands to add to the growing list to react to.
Keiko Terada is the primary force behind Naon no Yaon. It stopped when she left Show-Ya and started back up when she rejoined the band. I would not be surprised if Saki takes over when she decides to retire (which is probably still many years away)
As others posted, its not a band but a festival. It was organized by Keiko Terada, frontwoman of Show-Ya (I see you have also posted a reaction to them). The godmother of metal bands, Show-Ya were founded in 1981 (before Metallica). They locked in their lineup in 1982 and are still touring with that lineup (there were a few years in the mid 90's with a different lead singer). They have been sponsoring a sort-of annual rock festival (NAONのYAON) just for Japanese female rock musicians, and mentored many of the bands you are seeing now. You should see the 2019 version of this, which is the only other one currently up. It was posted under the unfortunate title of "Cute Japanese shred battle" but it kicks ass. ua-cam.com/video/lakRK5LbY9M/v-deo.html

Very cool. This was the start of the rabbit hole for me really. I’d spent a day trying to figure out if BabyMetal was only a gimmick or Legit, and UA-cam knew I enjoyed prodigies, including Mr.Big’s 8yr old student LisaX (who’d named herself after his previous band RacerX, before they met).
