The only reason i may listen to this a little less than you , though probably not much less , is that there's so much other Gould & Bach to listen to for hours 😊
Great fugue, triple fugue, so much cleverness and skill in this one. I love when the 16ths come in like some fantastic motor just driving this explosion of notes to it's conclusion. There is one point all 3 themes are on top of each other, just the highest art and skill there ever was. Gould is good on harpsichord, he had some register changes, amazing. I bet he would have been a fantastic organist too, imagine if he lived 20 more years, we will never know. He still manages to make each voice have its own character on this thing, I don't know how he does it, with flat fingers too, amazing.

When we listen to this guy, Gould. And his command of virtually every keyboard work composed by Bach; his utter drive. I wonder, what in the world could Bach himself have been like to see, hear and know during his time on earth. The only thing for me that comes close. And really works?? Would have been coming face to face with the Master, Jesus the Christ. A stretch, of course. Because, Christ is God's Son. But, it's the only thing that describes these guys who perform like Glenn Gould. And so many others.
For me Gould is the only one who plays Bach like Bach. You can tell he feels every note, he cant stop singing, it is like it is his own blood, the notes just flow through him as if Bach was right there. I can stand Bach played like a sewing machine, Gould always has a rhythm and drive even in slow works the pulse is there, not dead, but alive.
@@trevjr Hey, GMJ. ' Giving you a guarded thumbs up. And perhaps, Andras Schiff comes even close. Certainly not Friedrick Gulda. But, he had his own brand of genius. Others have come along. And slammed down on the big chords of Tschaikowsky and Rachmaninov. Even Max Reger's big ole hated by many, concerto. Yeah, we all love Gould's mastery. But his thinking? Not so much.
I think if he had let the music stand be up then we wouldn't have had the terrible clicking noises (caused, I think, from the force of the jacks making the music stand clatter against the cover atop the jacks). Ah well, no help for it now!
This is very interesting, because while playing this fugue about three times faster, his interpretation of this fugue is very similar to that of Landowska. Compare to ua-cam.com/video/1-n9FZAqjDc/v-deo.html.
Sounds like a Pleyel harpsichord like Landowska played. Harsh goulush sound. Too bad Gould wasn't hip to authentic instruments and their beautiful and heavenly sound.
I mean... it's a harpsichord. Don't they kind of sound horrible by design? And if you're talking about the 'bass' tones, that's actually the sound of him humming.

Glenn on organ ua-cam.com/video/GnXHnEz94os/v-deo.html
He had early training as an organist which gave him an inclination for polyphony.
He has an album of the Art of Fugue (1-9) on the organ. Best organ playing I've ever heard.
He was a genius, who spent most of his life to reach the absolute perfection. And he did it. Love Gould and Bach together 🎶🎹💕💙

I'm guessing for the top keyboard, bottom keyboard and both keyboards at the same time.
For the most part, no. Some modern harpsichords have pedals to change the registration without taking your hands off the keyboard but that's about it.
