Man Bret, your explanation of retirement sounded almost verbatim word for word on how I retired from working in a steel mill for 37 years. I know the exact feelings, your not alone in how you feel. Great video!
I came through Flagstaff during that snow squall today around noon ,spent the nite in Santa Rosa , NM last nite .. layed up in a motel bed now in Kingman watching this video .. thought of you all the way through there today as I looked at this beautiful country .. much , much different than NE Oklahoma .. enjoy your content … waiting on the high country adventures.. that will be interesting .. I have been called back to California this year to preach this camp meeting out here again.. stay safe and get as much done while you can in fulfilling your dreams .. DON’T Forget the main things as you’re winding down that ol clock of life .. 😉 Onward and Upward is the Watchword ..
Jeff I will be in Oklahoma this next month ...if you are close I would sure like to meet you .. do I have your email ? if not send me one at brettvaughn@icloud.com .. Thanks Onward and Upward
I have felt your pain. Remember we all have to have a reason to get up in the morning! Your adventures, mules, dogs and a supportive wife should do that for you! Keep making the videos I love riding along with you!
Something you need to be doing, ? Riding with your Dogs enjoying the solitude? Sounds to me what I should be doing. Your channel name is so accurate in so many ways. Born 100years too late. The slowing down takes time I've found, no needs to put the breaks on just take the foot off the accelorater and coast to a walking pace. Your living my dream Sir.
And that “smarter than you” attitude is also what drove my retirement process Brett…schooling is great but respect and experience are great as well…anyways…been out 6 years now …and still miss the involvement of working😊
I know what you are talking about with the new out of college engineers. I was treated the same way at my job where I had been doing it longer than they were old. I got my fill and I retired at 60 abut 2 years ago. I am getting the hang of retirement now and I highly recommend it!
I just watched your -im quite! Talking about Gold and all! The retirement part i can retire to! I sent 40 years working in facilities in public schools! Picked up a lot of knowledge along the way but with these young ones have no interest in learning so i moved on and I'm recently retired! Got a lot of things i want to do! But man!! I'm in that guilt phase as well! That leaves me in the funk! But I'm going to get through it! And ill find my place! Thank you for your videos in a lot of ways i can relate with what you saying! Once upon a Time back in the 70s I had a couple opportunity to get involved in some lion hunting, but man I did not follow through! Yep, one of those could have should have! Truly one of my regrets! But Good to see what your doing with it! Thank you sir!
Hi Brett, i retired early due to the dreaded arthritis. Just found your channel (subscribed) and get a real good feeling just watching you living my dream. Born 100 yrs too late myself and in the wrong country (UK). Would love 2 mules some dogs and a sharps 1875 rifle and just ride. Take care and enjoy your retirement.
In Lonesome Dove after they crossing the red River and some snakes bit that young Irish boy and as they were saying a word over the dead boy I think Augustus said "life is short shorter for some than others now we better get going". "Dust to dust" final word before they rode off after the herd and burying the boy.
I respect you & your views. There is a trend where I live, that if someone disagrees with someone, yell at them. I try to be kind to everyone as possible.
We lived on the Pedro Armendariz land grant back in the late 1960’s, leased by Johnny Hooker. Ted Turner owns it now. We lived at 2 different camps there and Dad didn’t have an off-road vehicle, so anytime he had to go to check on cows, he’d saddle up an go, onward but not always upward. One time he was headed over the Fra Cristoba mountains towards elephant butte lake. As he was walking along in a canyon, he spotted a big crack in the side of the canyon. He got off his horse and went to explore it. Way down in the bottom of that crack he saw a pair of saddlebags. He had no way of reaching them, so he made a mental note and headed on his way. Before he had a chance to go back and retrieve them, we moved down to Animas on another ranch that Johnny Hooker ran. Wish I had been inclined to go back and follow in Dad’s footsteps. I’ve been binge watching your videos and they remind me of days long past. May God bless you in all your endeavors.
LIFE IS SHORT! YOU HAVE EARNED IT! ENJOY YOUR LIFE, DO YOUR DREAM! STAY BUSEY & YOU'LL LIVE A LONG TIME! YOU LOVE YOUR HOUNDS & MULES THEY WON'T BE AROUND FOREVER, ENJOY THEM! ACTUALLY, YOU FOUND YOUR TRUE TREASURE, ALL ALONG, ITS THE MULES & HOUNDS & SPENDING THE TIME WITH THEM!

Great watching your videos Brett…our horses are gone for some time now but dang being horseback n plundering around was some of the best times of my life…used to squerill hunt w a friend who had Mtn Fice dogs…and deer hunted some as well…camped…all good times 👍❤️
I was an MP on WSMR (259th MP Co), 1977 to 1979, we were living on Holloman AFB as we were responsible for the northern portion of the range which included Victorio Peak, Stallion Range Center, Rhodes Canyon, Northrop Strip and Oscurro Peak. We had the run of the place being MP's and it was an interesting place that we took advantage of to explore. I still live in NM and just retired last year myself and am still adjusting to not having to do anything. I want to head to the Gila for some trips but stuff keeps getting in the way, I guess I need to just say I'm outa here for awhile be back in a bit and I'll call when I can. I believe the story of the gold is real but may be exaggerated a bit on how much was there but no doubt something went on there. The exposure I have to it comes from the other side of the fence and from what I saw it was clear that the military spent time and energy poking around that mountain and they would not have done that unless they thought there was something there. Keep up the adventures and happy trails my friend.
Thank you very much ... good to hear from someone that has been there and has knowledge of the story and area ... yes eventually you just have to say "I'm outa here" and take off .. Thanks and good luck and I might just bump into you in the Gila someday .. thats where I'm going next
Retirement is not for sissies… that’s when the real work begins. You have to stay healthy, eat right, get your rest! But most importantly, you are a role model for those to come behind you.. on how to live a righteous life ! ❤️
Alot of us guys would LOVE to have the "problem" of "not sure what to do because you dont have to work"... Enjoy your retirement! Thanks for what you do!
I live at the end of a goat trail in north Idaho only one neighbor for 3 miles, I don't just love the solitude I demand it. Me and my six hounds don't mis the bullshit rat race one bit never did like that shit either. I intend to move out of the snow country and into dry ground hunting again. Dogs, mules and beautiful new country, it don't get any better than that. Congrats!!
Sounds like a good place .. and sounds like a good plan to get out of the cold country .. I lived off grid for about 3 years .. owned the place for 10 .. had a hard time making everything work while I was up there .. my folks got old and my wife likes her job in town so I sold it .. Thanks Emmett
I’ve work with those young Engineers in the oil field for years, you just have to let them do their thing and find out latter their mistakes. I think the appraisal system in these co’s is the root to a lot of the problem. As far a retirement the biggest thing to me was time. Your use to a structured work day and now time doesn’t matter. I tell people I’m retired and time doesn’t matter to me👍🏻
I wrote and published a book titled "Michael's Eyes" that includes as a part of the story the discovery of Spanish gold in Texas. Makes the story very interesting.
Hey Bret good to see you. I'm sure you will fill your time with working them dogs. Just think how much it will perk them up working them more. That time of feeling like you left something undone will grow shorter and shorter. Those youngins won't understand till they reach our age. You all ready know what pitfalls await them. Congratulations enjoy the show. Great show as always great music great time had by all. Thanks
You will get used to being retired, it takes awhile. I was the same way when I retired, I felt guilty for not working on my job. But we have plenty of work at home to do. HA. Just regroup and pursue what you want. Hope you find the Gold, but if you do don't tell anyone. 🐴 Hey we have a terrible cougar problem here, one killed a ladies dog today, it killed her dog in front of her. 🐕
Lol I like the end. I aggravate the far out of mine too. I think you really need to enjoy your retirement. You deserve it I just hope I can retire one day. 😆
Odd thing, I have many that have retired and I ask how they enjoying it and they claim now they don't have enough time to do what they planned after retirement. I'm sure I will go through all this in a few years. Keep riding, keep the hounds hunting.
I know exactly what you mean about the young guys thinking they know more. Watching them make mistakes and not listening to my 40 years experience. I'm out of it now and have better things to think about
HI Bret been waiting for your vidio for a while . yours is one of my favorites ! Don"t know the anwser to your delema . I'm 70 and still doing constructiuon because i like being busy and i still need the money but i'd like to slow down and spend more time ridin the hills on my mule. I thank God i'm able to be active no matter what i'm doin. I am sure He has blessings for you if your lookin! Do you shoe the mules and how about the bit ? Thanks Rob
There’s a mesa north of elephant butte lake on the east side of the river called Black Mesa. If you go on google earth and look at it someone has painted the rocks to say Turner, probably Mr. Ted. Anyway, there used to be and old guy in Engle would tell us stories about his youth in this area. He told me once that as a young man, riding around a horseback, he found a civil war cannon on that mesa. What a story. Anyway, several miles to the southeast of that mesa is a volcano with ruins near the opening. We went there one time and found cavalry memorabilia all around those ruins. Joe Turner told us that the cavalry mined bat guano from the openings of that valcano. I found several uniform buttons and cartridges that had not been fired. Wish I’d known then what I know about that area. About once a month during the summer, someone from White Sands Missile base would come to the house and tell us to leave for a day or 2 while they tested missiles.
@@BrettVaughnB100 Brett, I believe Ted Turner owns all that area now. I think it’s all part of his ladder ranch now. However, I’m not sure how private it is. That mesa is east of river in the area Val Verde monument.
Young guys won’t even acknowledge a question, and to answer a question? Hah. General lack of respect w the young crowd. Would love to see Bret and the gang in Northern Nevada.
You mentioned that you were involved in fire protection work. May I ask in what capacity? I worked in commercial fire alarm design/engineering for 20+ years myself. Oh BTW I do enjoy your channel as well.
As much back country as you see. I would check out Ben sublet mine. My dad said old timers in his younger days knew him and they think the mine is in the rustler hills some where. Good place to lion hunt in my opinion as well. Government trappers have caught them there.
We're close to the same age and i also treated my elders with respect but this generation in general don't have it they expect it but don't give it. Comes from a society where there's no chance of getting that ass whipped for the disrespect anymore. A lot might not agree with it but there's nothing worse to me than someone who can't back up what they say instead hide behind the law
If I found that much gold, I would get one of those old penny press machines and make gold pennies. Or I would start panning for gold and just break it down a little bit over time like I was lucky enough to find it?
I like your headstall. Im used to putting mine over my halter so if I need to jump off and tie up I’m not using my reins. Yours is a pretty cool combo. Did you custom make that?
Hey You ever get to meet the two Arizona Navajo team ropers that is Brothers Jimmy and Benny Bitsui and back in their Day which was Decades ago L.O.L they was pretty good and they don't get Much better than them Fellers Hell their Buckles told their Story
Teach that young engineer how to keep customers, when he has it, sell him 45% of the business, you retire 👍🏻. Then watch it close out on those gold hunts, careful, you dont wanna get gold fever 🤭. Crazy advice , don’t listen to me. If you’re going to retire, do it. Took me a couple years to settle down but I’m glad I did it. I also wondered about the amount of dogs you take with you…for about a minute….cuz, you want too and to teach the pups.. You are right on the money on the young guys, no respect….they have computer skills and a title, a vocabulary and dont know shi*…. I kno exactly what you are talking about ! Having gold bars would be a great problem to work out 17:22 😊. Thanks Brett.
SEARCH FOR THAT GOLD TREASURE! TEACH THOSE HOUNDS TO SMELL FOR GOLD, THEY HAVE THE NOSES! PRAY'IN FOR YOU, MULES, & HOUND BUDDIES REALLY HOPE YOU CAN FIND IT! WE ALL ARE GOING TO WATCH THE VIDEO EPISODES! THERES GOLD IN THEM HILL SOMEWHERE! GOD BLESS, GODSPEED! BE SAFE! LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!
And also, what was your business. You hired and engineer. I'm an Engineer as well, so just curious. I live in NM and can recognize lots of the country you ride in.
Sounds like it's time to start the next chapter..... Time to make some videos!!! Everyone knows now you have the time so we'll be expecting more videos!! And i don't know what the laws are on keeping that stuff you find, be better off selling it to someone in the business! Melt it down and sell it an ounce at a time!! I don't think it'd be wise to let anyone know you have it!
Yeah that would probably work ... and I know I will make more .. need to get enough views to pay someone to edit for me .. that would be the ticket thanks Chris
P.s I love what your doing I think that even prophets of old might in have been a little bit jealous because you doin what they did without all the comports of home except whatever the spirt bestowed upon them l.o.l one of em even got sandwiches from the crows for a few years until Jezebel had to Die but to some folks those are just old stories 🤷🏻♂️🤔
I know just what you mean. These young bucks have No Respect for anyone, Especially us older bucks who have been there, done that.. etc. I think it's got to do with their upbringing. Their parents never taught them anything about respect. They are all about themselves. It's sad. We have much experience that we could share and they think they know it all... Lol
Don't want to overload the comments but is it my imagination or what answering questions with decent response time who does that, I think your for real I like your show 🤔 and I have some questions about how you go out there an tackle the elements ok. There some interesting tube stuff out there but when I comment I usually get no response , keep up the work. I feel I'm out there with you.
I feel if someone takes the time to leave a comment I should try to answer them .. it is hard sometimes I only have so much time and I don't really like to answer with a generac comment .. I do read almost all of them its just that sometimes I don't have time Thank you !! .. I am going to try and go live once a month maybe a couple times and answer questions .. I am always amazed at how good of an audience I have and I never want to take them for granted
I have always wanted to give money to womens and childrens causes ie counceling and services for women having to endure a difficult pregnancy, money for women living in difficult circumstances (having to live with an abusive partner) and finding out they are pregnant. Drug treatment programs, housing, food banks, clothing banks, college courses that teach women how to live alone, raise their kids, pay their bills on time every month and develope a credit history. I could go on but you get the picture.
Young people from the hight of their inexperience and arrogance, don't pay much attention to older people's advices, only to find out years later that they were the ones that played the stupid part.
The young guy's lack of respect is an overall representation of the societies degrading morals, values and principles. It's going to get worse before it get better. We are living in the beginning of the end times. It's a time to get right with God.
Little surprise at the end lol
Don’t piss the wife off.

Is it on private land ? Armandaris ? I would like to find it thanks
@@BrettVaughnB100 Brett, I believe Ted Turner owns all that area now. I think it’s all part of his ladder ranch now. However, I’m not sure how private it is. That mesa is east of river in the area Val Verde monument.
Love that guitar.
Me too .. Thanks
Young guys won’t even acknowledge a question, and to answer a question? Hah. General lack of respect w the young crowd. Would love to see Bret and the gang in Northern Nevada.
I do have plans to go up there .. NW corner ... I have been up in the Jarbidge and over in the bad lands Thanks
Have a happy retirement. After a while it will just feel normal. Enjoy.
Its starting too .. Thanks
I'm 50 I feel the same way..
I think there are lots of us .. thanks
👍 I’d be happy finding my keys ggg
lol seller .. there are days I feel the same way .. thanks
You mentioned that you were involved in fire protection work. May I ask in what capacity? I worked in commercial fire alarm design/engineering for 20+ years myself. Oh BTW I do enjoy your channel as well.
No I had a Cathodic Protection Company .. we protected structures from corrosion .. Thanks
As much back country as you see. I would check out Ben sublet mine. My dad said old timers in his younger days knew him and they think the mine is in the rustler hills some where. Good place to lion hunt in my opinion as well. Government trappers have caught them there.
I've heard of that ? But I am in New Mexico .. where are the Rustler Hills? thanks
Go west on 652 out of Orla Texas and you will run into the rustler hills. They are the foothills before the Guadalupe mountains.
If I didn't there would of been hell to pay for sure .. Thanks
If I found that much gold, I would get one of those old penny press machines and make gold pennies. Or I would start panning for gold and just break it down a little bit over time like I was lucky enough to find it?
Not sure what would be the best .. but it would be a good problem to have lol .. thanks
I like your headstall. Im used to putting mine over my halter so if I need to jump off and tie up I’m not using my reins. Yours is a pretty cool combo. Did you custom make that?
I bought it .. I will have to look and see where .. not sure thanks
I see your gonna been in the barn with the mules. Or maybe the DOG house.
lol been there before Thanks
Hey You ever get to meet the two Arizona Navajo team ropers that is Brothers Jimmy and Benny Bitsui and back in their Day which was Decades ago L.O.L they was pretty good and they don't get Much better than them Fellers Hell their Buckles told their Story
Lots of those guys coming of the Rez could sure get your money naturals .. The names sound familiar .. Thanks
Your breaking method is like boot camp. Where you a drill Sargent? The end result of it is basically the same for man or beast...lol
lol maybe .. never thought of it that way .. thanks
Thanks
I would make earrings, rings and figures. Never told anybody, even not my wife!
Thats a good idea ... if I knew how .. guess I could learn .. Thanks
Pawn shops an the right barber... trade your gold better than a trip to any conventional institution
Yeah I guess so .. thanks
lol HI MRS. Vaughn 🙂👋👋👋🤣🤣🤣
I try to get her on camera but she won't have anything to do with it lol .. thanks
@@BrettVaughnB100 this made my day you are awesome for this Mr. Bret 🤠
I’ve been watching that show, you couldn’t tell anyone not even the wife.
Probably right if for no other reason but for their protection .. Thanks
Your welcome .. I think he will do better with the customers then I have .. and I will have an income from the business for a while .. Thanks
The government takes 50% when its something such as a found treasure.... Greedy isn't the term.... Confiscatory is....
Yes don't get me started lol .. they are thieves .. all there is to it .. Thanks
Well, if I would find a gold bar like that, first thing I would do is keep It away from goverment claws.
Have too or they would take it from you .. thanks
BE SAFE! LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!
lol that would be something a gold sniffing hound .. sure would be worth a lot .. thanks
And also, what was your business. You hired and engineer. I'm an Engineer as well, so just curious. I live in NM and can recognize lots of the country you ride in.
We had a Cathodic Protection business ... thanks
I have a question. What do you take with you every time on your rides even if they are a couple hours long? Thanks'
I think I made a video about that .. I will look ... probably need to make another one .. Thanks
i know exactly what you are saying...a degree in paperwork, and no experience .
Seems to be the way of the world these days .. Thanks
What peoples tribes were there on that land.?
Apaches ..
Wonder how many times you have walk past treasure on you're walks?
Probably a lot more then I would like .. thanks
It’s not really retiring when you are gonna add top desert lion hounds man in the west as your daily activities, the real work starts now
No kidding .. but it is a type of work I am passionate about .. Thank you
P.s I love what your doing I think that even prophets of old might in have been a little bit jealous because you doin what they did without all the comports of home except whatever the spirt bestowed upon them l.o.l one of em even got sandwiches from the crows for a few years until Jezebel had to Die but to some folks those are just old stories 🤷🏻♂️🤔
I guess so .. I believe .. thanks
Lol
Yes .. was too much for me ... Thanks
Take it to the gold exchange store lol.
lol ...
In 2023 it is perfectly LEGAL to own gold in any shape, way or manner and weight.
Now I just need to find some ... Thanks
You just tell those people it's not getting what you want it's warning what you got
Thats true .. thanks
Nobody melt it down buy a gold claim and go from there
I think that the young people have been taught to disrespect their elders.
Something .. not sure what .. Thanks
SLOWLY SPEND THAT GOLD! BIT BY BIT! REBURY IT!
Just a piece at a time .. yep .. Thanks
Melting would be the way.
Don't sit around the office and watch videos. You'll end up watching a guy who talks to mules and rides in the desert.
Crazy people lol .. Thanks for watching
@@BrettVaughnB100 have a good retirement, Bud. I really do like watching that guy ride around, for some reason.
gov. would send 10 bars gold to ukraine and get 8 bar's back ...
lol or less back ... and all the dirty politicians would get one .. thanks
Ruth looks like she wants to sleep at the end of the rope lol
She don’t like me as much as Agnes .. thanks
👍
Yulp what i tell ya ride part time congrats.no you doing what i do
Trying .. Thanks
Young people from the hight of their inexperience and arrogance, don't pay much attention to older people's advices, only to find out years later that they were the ones that played the stupid part.
No kidding .. oh well just the way it is I guess .. thanks
greedy yep! 👍
Yep .. just think about how much we already have to pay ... Thanks
The young guy's lack of respect is an overall representation of the societies degrading morals, values and principles. It's going to get worse before it get better.
We are living in the beginning of the end times. It's a time to get right with God.
I do believe that is true sometimes .. Thanks
Melt it down poor it into water makes nuggets
Sounds like a plan .. Thanks
👍
