    I got mine a couple of days ago and i totally agree with you on how comfortable it is to wear. I have a 6.5” wrist and i was worried how it would wear. Surprisingly it sits quiet well on my tiny wrist. It usually takes a couple of weeks to feel comfortable wearing a new watch but this was instantly comfortable. Thanks for sharing your brief explanation of this watch. 👍

      I've been thinking of getting the model BN2036-14E but my wrist is only 6.75". What is the size of this watch from lug tip to lug tip. Is this watch too big for my wrist size?

    • @bettersteps
      @bettersteps 3 роки тому

      @ Uh....probably. I think this watch will be too big for you. It's not a small watch: 46mm. Citizen makes smaller divers that would fit you better. Citizen NY0040 is just under 42mm and has a bullet proof automatic movement. Killer watch for the money with a great history. You can still buy it on eBay. The Citizen BN0150-61E is an Eco-drive beauty but it is 44mm. Happy watch hunting.

After a while drying the watch and sensor i put it into the water again and it went into ready mode. Then while descending it very went out of ready mode. Please let me know if you had any problems or have any advice.

    One problem though, and correct me on that (I do own the watch). The ascent alarm, why is it a problem? Freediving. As a free diver I wish there was functionality to disable the ascent alarm. Free divers ascend and dive on different intervals than scuba divers without the requirement do deco stop, and that makes the alarm quite a nuisance, and this issue is not limited to Citizen, I have also witnessed that in the Gshock Frogman. For all of you free divers, my conclusion led me to the Gshock Gulfmaster, Analogue watch with a digital screen, but that model has no ascent alarm, which is a blessing, not to mention that it is a quad sensor, not only measuring depth, but also includes many functions like tide, moon graph, stop watch, altitude, temp, etc .. I just wish they refine it’s design.
    Another not problem, but more of nuisance is the low legibility of the numbers underwater, while you could read the depth, for free divers it should be a glance, no analyzing should take place, that might not be an issue in scuba, but in freediving it is due to the amount of times you have to glance at the current depth.
    If you got bucks to spend, I would suggest the Blancpain fifty fathoms X fathoms, IWC Deep 3, and the Panerai PAM307 depth gauge, Oris Aquis Depth Gauge is also interesting, I own it, but it’s the least in my list of these mechanical depth gauge watches due to some shortcoming, like a bad strap and mechanism, small depth numbers and a depth indicator which takes a while to analyze due to the factors mentioned, not cool if you’re holding your breath.
    I hope this helps all divers interested.

    • @allthingsrandom8137
      @allthingsrandom8137  4 роки тому +1

      I agree with you on all your points. You’re right free diving Is definitely not the same as scuba. I actually do not mind the ascent alarm, and I’ve done more videos doing follow ups on the actual watch. In fact I’ve recently been practicing breath holds for free diving and spearfishing with my friend who also scuba dives with me. I have not looked at the golfmaster, but honestly I’m seriously considering the Garmin MK decent As my go to dive watch

    • @Anonnonon
      @Anonnonon 4 роки тому

      All Things Random
      Oh I got the Garmin MK1 too, I’m a depth gauge dive watch collector, the MK1 is fantastic, has everything you would ever need. One issue though, at least for me personally, I’m not a big fan of smart watches as they require constant charging (not a thing you want to worry about in remote trips or expeditions), I barely can keep up with charging a laptop and smartphone, so I’ve taken the route of being “minimalistic underwater”, focusing only being underwater rather than connected with gadgets, that way your body gets a feel for its surroundings, even predicting the depth through pressure sensing, you will reach a level where you even predict the the time you need to resurface by analyzing contractions, the secret to free diving is full relaxation and being in control, sometimes complications and too many indicators can deteriorate that relaxation, certain alarms like setting a depth alarm or time alarm are a good safety precaution though.
      A simple advice is to focus on yourself rather than the gadgets. I had a suunto d4i, but again battery powered which meant changing batteries ever 2 years or so, and with the service centers we have locally and their subpar pressure testing, I had a couple of friends flood their Suunto watches.
      So a good brand with a boutique and a strong presence (professional dealer service) for mechanical watches is sometimes much better than having a 3rd party supplier repair your dive computer. Many factors go into my decision making, but for the money I recommend the Gulfmaster due to it’s capabilities, solar powered (no service required, these watches keep running well for years like the Citizen), shock proof, and for freedivers no ascent alarms, but it lacks advanced features like setting a depth or dive time alarm, it’s definitely not a scuba diving watch (a good backup though), but all in all it’s an amazing watch for adventurers and ocean lovers.

      Sure, what exactly cannot figure out. The watch is set just like any other watch unscrew the crown pull it out and set it. Everything else is just computerized. So the moment you hit the water, the sensor says hey I’m in the water, and the ready gauge goes up to ready. Then it will show you the depth after that.

    • @allthingsrandom8137
      @allthingsrandom8137  4 роки тому

      I agree, but even more than that I think they should use feet as opposed to meters. especially when most things teach accent rates in feet, deco depths in feet, and a majority dive within 60-100 feet, I find the meter reading too broad

    • @otsoni03
      @otsoni03 4 роки тому

      They should have two models - one with feet and one with meters. We use meters here in Europe.

    • @allthingsrandom8137
      @allthingsrandom8137  4 роки тому

      Pekka L. Yeah, I agree with you on that. That being said I was always taught to do a safety stop at 15 feet. So do you guys do them at 4 m? Or 3 m? That’s sort of the thing that I’m confused with, because everything that I’ve been taught has been on the verge of feet and meters are just broad.
      I guess I just prefer the fact that generally feet are slightly more precise because there’s three in 1 m. And if my accent rate is 2 feet a second, it’s hard to see that in meters. But I guess generally I would use a dive computer anyway, LOL

  • @ryokan9120
    @ryokan9120 2 роки тому

    How long is the eco drive cell drive supposed to last? I heard these watches are unlikely to last more than 25 years because the eco drive cell will eventually deteriorate. An automatic mechanical Omega or Rolex can last more than 100 years and beyond.

    • @allthingsrandom8137
      @allthingsrandom8137  2 роки тому +1

      OK, 25 years for a $400 watch that never needs a battery, I still think it is a great buy. We’re sort of talking apples and oranges at that point. Because the Aqualand provide you a depth meter, and accent alarm, which means it can actually be used as a dive watch. Nobody uses automatic dive watches to dive anymore, I know I’m a diver…
      So, if we’re talking about omega or Rolex, and citizen, I could spend $2000 on for citizen watches, which is still half the price of an omega, and a fifth of the price of a Rolex.

I've looked over this watch at the store, it's a fun watch and Citizen is going further than most other manufacturers with the functionality of measuring depth. I think the watch is still just a novelty though, who's really going to depend on the device when underwater? When they come up with a bluetooth connection with a transmitter attached to your tank with a low pressure warning, that will be something ! Still, I would like to own it if it only came with a simple, black dial and a metal band.

      @@brettkramer Dive instructor of 30+ years here. ALWAYS good to have a back up timing device. Computers can always fail. Plus this watch has an "ascent" alarm which he forgot to mention. So if your computer battery dies during your dive you can still ascend safely at less than 9m/min. Plus navigation underwater can often best be done using time not silly fin kick counts. This is easier with a watch rather than trying to use a computer's clock. Also a watch can be used to help communicate many diver signals whereas pointing to a computer often gives the buddy a completely different message.
