My mother was doing this in the '65 '70 and I've been doing it myself for a while, she also crushed and mixed it with the hens food. Great advise for new generations.
1. put them in your garden 2. put them in your garden 3. put them in your garden 4. put them in your garden 5. put them in your garden Okay, I think I get it
Eggshell chalk: flour, hot water, 5 to six grounded egg shells. Mix. Leave chalk alone for 4 days and enjoy! ~makes 1 chalk~ I hope this gave kids kids a better usage for eggshells☺️💖 (Sorry I don't have measurements it should make a sand like consistency, firm enough to mold)
Yes, this works, a cousin recently told me about crushed egg shells keeping slugs away from plants. I had a Borage plant in a pot, where the leaves were being eaten nearly as fast as they were coming up. I did as he said and the next two days there were whole new leaves coming up. YAHOO, a Borage plant is now about 10 leaves and doing very well..... in about a week. ALSO, I recently discovered saving eggshells and rotting them in half gallon of water is a very effective deer repellant !!!!!! It only takes about 3 days for it to be ready for use. Apply near plants eaten by deer you want to protect once a week for a month, then once every two weeks next month, then once a month there after. should it rain a lot, you may need to reapply after rain. THIS WORKS !!!! Got the idea from reading a product label I bought one year for $12 a qt and realized I would need to buy 3 or more bottles in a given season. Not worth it and realized it was really just rotten eggshells. Oh yes, the smell is not too bad and only last a day to humans.
I put the egg shells in a plastic bag, crush them, and return them to the chickens mixed in with other treats, scraps, etc. It returns the calcium to their system. Same as putting crushed oyster shells into their feed. Provided nice eggs and hard shells.
One other use is to break them up and add them to coffee when making coffee. This takes away some of the bitterness of coffee. The grounds can then go into compost.
On our farm growing up, we threw them out in the garden to help the plants grow. They're also good for (not crushed too much) planting under/around flower bulbs to keep rodents from eating them.
Be warned that excessive eggshells for indoor potted plants can kill them eventually. Indoor potted plants don't have the benefits of rain which can help to neutralize the soil periodically and help to prevent over accumulation of calcium in the soil. I am speaking from practical experience. For outdoor plants, this may be ok. But do it with care for indoor plants. Do control the amount if you don't want to see stunted growth.
I grind them to a powder and mix it right into my Soil, along with the Manure, When mixing my Soil at the start of the Spring Growing Season. " Works for Me."
I use baking soda, organic virgin coconut oil and peppermint essential oil to make toothpaste. I may add egg shells to the mix. I'll investigate it first though since teeth are quite important.
I use to save egg shells dry it than grain into chicken food. They need lots of calcium when they growing to avoid disfigured legs. I never feed them with antibiotics or starter food but fiber rich stuff and grass as many they could pick on their own.
Everyone should be adding eggshells to their soil/flower pots. My family and I have had composts since 1970. Nothing goes to waste. Why toss out food scraps that can help to enhance the quality of your garden soil? I like the idea of adding eggshells to the bottom of flower pots. BTW: used teabags make terrific "plugs" for drain holes on flower pots. The drying and grinding tips in this vid had me laughing, though. That'll be the day that I sit around, grinding eggshells with my mortar and pestle. And the snail/slug deterrent is a bit of a stretch. "My" slugs and snails would laugh at egg shells in my garden, as they're sliming their way over the shells.
I save them after rinsing, then bake in a 200* oven for 10 minutes when I have an oven sheet full. I grind to powder, then add to my homemade dogfood for calcium. I store it in the freezer. I use about 1 1/2 tsp. Per lb. of meat.
Excellent trustworthy information. Glad to know that ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) can dissolve egg shells overnight. I will definitely use the skin remedy. Thank you.
Carrielee Long : Sorry to say, I tried the ACV, it didn't work. I left it in a container for over a week and nothing happened. You can try it, maybe you'll have different results.😉
I do not exercise as other people, I put all the eggshells, sunflower seeds shells (the law seeds) and coffee dregs (make sure very dry) in a thick plastic bag, I step on the bag whenever I walk by there so I have good fertilizer for my garden.
Clean eggshells are an ideal water hardener for African cichlid fish tanks. This slightly increases the base of the water, less acidic and increases water buffering capacity against water chemistry shocks. Do this only for African cichlid tanks, never Amazon tropical tanks.
I save every eggshell. Grind in my blender? I don’t think so. But they do work in the garden, the difference between slug control this year and last year is amazing and they are free and safe. All the chemicals I bought I could have bought new plant and harmed the animals. Coffee is good too all the grounds go in the garden I know it sounds hippy dippy but it really works.
fyi, what I do is save the eggs from my hens. I save in plastic shopping bags, when filled, I place the shells on a cookie sheet in my 250 degree oven for a hour or so to make sure they are dry.. then after cooling, I place in my food processor, grind to a powder, then sprinkle on my garden.
Sue Miller : Just don't put egg shells in the feed, grind them up good and put them in the grit, otherwise the chickens will start eating the eggs after laying them. I always saved egg shells for my friend's boy but after he told me about the chickens eating the eggs I quit giving them to him because I thought he knew better.😂😂😄
Eggshells can also contain salmonilla. Best to only use eggshells that have been boiled before using in your garden or feeding back to chickens or you could pay the price
If you raise any Chickens The Egg Shell can be thrown on the ground and the Chickens will pick them up and eat them it is good sorce of Calicum for them also Thanks for sharing etc
Spread the egg shells evenly across the top of a brick wall. It will deter soft handed burglars from scaling your wall and trespassing onto your property... or just put this frigging sound-track on a loop and play continuously in your yard.
I recycle mine from a cafe and use them all around the Allotment including my wormery, thankyou for the tip on replacing them for lime. #KeepCalmAndMakeCompost Facebook Group. 🌱Happy Gardening ,Terry
I am pure vegetarian...so pls suggest me.,, Can I use butter milk( made of curd and water it is made by adding lot of water in curd like semi thick like low fat milk) we drink it in lunch and dinner can I use butter milk instead of egg shell..is it work...or it may hazard to my chilli and lemon plant...???
Lime is usually calcium oxide or calcium hydroxide. Also, I'm pretty sure phosphoric acid isn't in the shell. Acids eat carbonates. Now I'm looking for other credibility sinkers...

Or you can bake them in your oven the grind them into a fine powder and use it as calcium supplement for your pet snails and reptiles 😁

i also boil, dry and crush shells then add them to the bird feeders starting in late winter. this provides calcium and grit for them before nesting.

Tqvm.Good information about the benefits of egg shell.

Wow, never knew egg shells had so many uses.

This is great. Also, thanks for the detailed description in the description box.
I liked your video and I am going to try egg shell and vinegar for my itchy arm.
Best thing this Eggshells I grind them it don’t keep away snails and slugs but it does helps with plant growth
grind organic egg shells into powder. Take quarter tsp with half lemon or orange every morning. Excellent form of calcium digested with vitamin c.
Great ideas for gardening ... help ful

Wonderful, great tips.Thank you.
I feed them back to my chickens. Great advice
Sue Miller
That's terrible. You give them chicken nuggets too? 😂
Nelson4207 chickens can actually eat meat along with shells lol
the minerals are ''drained off'' of a hens body to make a shell so you merely feed back what is depleted from them
Sue Miller : Just don't put egg shells in the feed, grind them up good and put them in the grit, otherwise the chickens will start eating the eggs after laying them.

Eggshells definitely DO NOT deter slugs or snails. I've tested this.
grind them with an old coffee grinder .. turns them to almost dust.
I feed mine back to the hens. They love it.
Ystadcop
Yes? I crush them up first.
So good
I use a coffee grinder, turns egg shells to mostly powder
