Die, die, die my darling
Dont utter a single word
Die, die, die my darling
Just shut your pretty mouth
Ill be seeing you again
Ill be seeing you in hell
Dont cry to me oh baby
Your futures in an oblong box, yeah
Dont cry to me oh baby
Should have seen it a-comin on
Dont cry to me oh baby
I dont know it was in your power
Dont cry to me oh baby
Dead-end girl for a dead-end guy
Dont cry to me oh baby
Now your life drains on the floor
Dont cry to me oh baby

diviak383 Haha
Gotta be the best comment ever.

I like the part where it goes, "Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep."
Hahahahah same 😂
I also like the parts where they say "die"
The same thing in rock lobster lol
Thats my favourite too 😀
Im fucken crying with laughter with all three of these original comments lmfao 😂
This song is so dirty and audio is low quality, I love it.
❤
Metallica made a cover... I wish I could rip my fucking ears off my fucking head
EDIT: Not anymore, i like that one too
Welcome to punk rock
That’s what I love about Danzig era-Misfits, there’s so much soul, even if it’s evil lol. The lyrics are so fucking clever (“your future is in an oblong box”), and speaking generally, they’re often more disturbing than what I initially heard. It’s actually weird how often I end up shocked by the level of depravity in some songs like attitude or angelfuck lol
your so dirty and low quality i love u
U can really feel the 50s rock n roll influence. Sure, it’s a bit louder and more sadistic, but that beautiful, simple chord progression is there
The chord progressions has nothing to do with 50s rock and roll particularly lol. It’s basic major chord stuff which can be traced back to blues in the 1920s or European folk songs of the 1800s and further to BC Greek classical music.
50s rockability didn’t have power chords like this song. Nor were beats this fast or the guitars this distorted and loud. The only thing it has in common is maybe the heavy reverb on vocals. It’s very punk rock actually.’

I agree I am right with you on that. I am 40. and it was the same when I was growing up on the 1980s and 1990s. 1 of my friends growing up even moved from Massachusetts to california and became a pro skater. ryan gallant is his name. hes 1 year younger than me.

Mic? I'd say this was done on a casette recorder.
Uh, no
My only real complaint is that Googy's hi-hat sounds like shit, and considering he's using it throughout pretty much the entire song, it gets pretty annoying. Other than that, though, I'm fine with it.
the beep is the best part
I agree
Lmao it makes it

YES!
it's fucking genius
People here don't know that The Misfits were respected by both Metalheads and Punk Rockers along with being an influence on Metallica. I like the rawness of the original here.
Metellica loves punk rock . Motörhead and discharge were the ones who brought metal and punk together.
Because Danzig was a metal act after he left the misfits. He’s actually getting me into metal rn. Him and White Zombie.
Ok, so you are nicer about it than I was! Lol!
People dont know Metallica sux. They dissed their original member who funded their start. They fought against my generations chance at lower education costs and better culture because of their non stop greed. God showed them the joke they were on twitch con. Head bang to elevator music, thank Jesus, exposing Metallica for being a joke.
Oh yeah nobody knows that but you

I kind of like the beeping though....
Rick Scott If I recall, that was either Glenn or Doyle (whoever really played guitar) flicking the guitar's pickup switch on and off and that was feedback that resulted.
Rick Scott Everyone does
Favorite part of the song.
John O'Brien Should be Doyle! But I've been checking the guitar and bass tabs and that stuff to learn the song and play it along with my band and I saw that Doyle recorded the overdriven guitar along with the distortion guitar sound, playing the "beep" along with the distortion stuff. Good teory, by the way.
I remember the first time I listened to this song. It was 2am and I was sitting in my dark bedroom blasting this through my headphones. Thanks insomnia for getting me interested in The Misfits.

why do people complain about the quality.. recording equipment wasn't as good back then. remember this is the 70s and 80s
It wasn't just lower quality today. Old indie punk was recorded with old leftover recording equipment.

Metallica fan belgium I like The Misfits version more but it's just because it's better for me. Even if they wrote the song (well, it was Danzig) it doesn't mean it's the better version. But it is for me. James' voice just doesn't work.

Christian Lum its Danzig's register. He sings in a baritone style like Jim Morrison did. This particular song really brings out Danzig's type of signature style (see newer solo stuff like Black Hell) which in itself is pretty similar to Jim's slurred, in your face, style.
And Van Morrison was an influence on both The Doors and I'm sure, The Misfits.

When punk started to rise in the 70's- 80's a lot of record companies did not sign bands because they thought they wouldn't sell records. So punk bands had to record, produce, and distribute albums themselves. A lot of times the places they recorded from were not the best of studios, thus, you get all of these fuzzy sounds, static sounds, and random other inconsistencies and odd effects. Back then no one had computers to edit that out and auto-tune the vocals, music was all analog.
*Listens to old Punk* *Bitches about quality*
Why isn't this sort of stuff popular anymore? It's great :D

I heard the Metallica version of this before coming to listen to the original, and I definitely like the original version better.
Well, gotta be just with Metallica.
The usual thing with a cover is that you always like the first version you've heard better (90% true, I'd say).
With Metallica's 87's EP they've done a wonder.
On the one hand - they did a good job by introducing me to a few good bands.
On the other hand - they've done it so good, that I actually love the originals WAYS better than M's covers.
Maybe that was M's masterplan?
I have the same thing. Metallica helped introduce me to The Misfits and Thin Lizzy, among other bands. Watching Danzig perform Die, Die My Darling, Last Caress and Green Hell with Metallica at their 30th anniversary show in San Francisco was pretty fucking sweet though! (Truthfully that whole concert was fucking amazing.)
YLCC23 I agree that The Metallica introduced me to so many other bands, even though it was GNR that introduced me to the misfits, but I disagree with the Danzig with Metallica on the 30 year shows. HE SUCKED! The motherfucker couldn't even keep the mic at the mouth! He sang everything halfassed! I though it was pathetic!

I’m curious ~ what did this sound/feel like when it was new, if you were of age at the time?
My 9yrs older brother was (still is) a skater and had a badass tape collection. I’d sneak in and help myself. The music didn’t seem as hard as other metal but the lyrics were definitely shocking to a 5-7 yr old
I've always been curious about this too. Im in my early 40's, so I still missed this being new by about a decade. I first heard them in high school in the 90's. London Dungeon was in the Welcome to Hell skateboarding video. There was a Sonic Youth song in that video too, and I still love them to this day as well.
