Canindé de São Francisco in the extreme northwest of the state of Sergipe, serves as a gateway for tourist tours in the canyons of Sergipe.
São Francisco River. The municipality was the scene of many miniseries scenes and the soap opera Velho Chico. Join us on another adventure.

We depart from Pousada Lampião in Piranhas, Alagoas, heading to Prainha de Canindé de São Francisco, 11km away.
A historic city in the northeast, Canindé do São Francisco is marked by cangaço and its exuberant nature, being the second pole
most important tourist attraction in Sergipe. It is located in the high Sergipe hinterland, 127km from Aracaju.
Canindé de São Francisco was recognized as a tourist hub, when the Xingó hydroelectric dam, on the São Francisco River, created the largest navigable canyon in the world.
The Vale dos Mestres, with untouched vegetation, canyons and caves with rock paintings, is also one of the region's attractions.
Its history, its beautiful landscapes, the São Francisco River and the rock formations, the city's farm an incredible destination for anyone,
especially for ecotourism lovers.
From Prainha de Canindé de São Francisco it is possible to observe the Xingó Hydroelectric Plant, on the border of Alagoas and Sergipe.
The dam was built for navigation, water supply and hydroelectric power generation.
It was built between 1967 and 1994 and the last of its generators was commissioned in 1997. Studies for the Xingó dam were carried out
in the 1950s and construction contracts were only awarded in 1982. And in 1994, the dam began impounding the river in November
of the same year, the reservoir reached its maximum level.
Canindé de São Francisco has a famous little beach, in order to meet the growing tourist demand, in 2016 the locality passed
to have Orla Salomão Portifírio Britto to serve the community, its local inhabitants and also to enjoy the magnificent view
of the emblematic São Francisco River as a gift to its visitors.
The city serves as a base and has tourist infrastructure for tours in the so-called São Francisco MONA Natural Monument, where
the famous canyons are located and there are guided tours to the Xingó Hydroelectric Plant, as well as the location of the
called MAX, Xingó Archeology Museum.
