- Sky News host Chris Kenny is joined by contributor Kristin Tate to discuss the tragic and horrific assassination attempt of former US president Donald Trump and the years of inflammatory rhetoric toward him from Democrats and the media.
"Democrats and many journalists have demonised Trump for years. They've consistently ratcheted up their rhetoric, especially as November's election looms," Mr Kenny said.
"Obviously, the person who carries the blame for the attempted assassination of Donald Trump is the gunman, but there has been a vitriolic environment created, with Trump on the end of an unprecedented level of hatred from the political left.
"Everybody involved in the political debate is responsible for the tone and the level of hatred and some of the language around this has been irresponsible."

How is a democratically elected person an "existential threat to democracy"? I'm trying to understand the logic of this statement so please, anyone, clarify.

It seems like you're fishing for a definition you'd understand. "Existential" by itself basically means it's real, it exists, even if it isn't immediately obvious (to the weak-minded). For example climate change is regularly called an existential threat because it's very real, but not obvious to science illiterates. Trump and American Republicans in general are seen as existential threats to democracy because of tactics like aggressively implementing "Voter ID" laws without any supporting evidence since the real endgame is to control or manipulate who can vote. Trump's completely evidence-free claims of the 2020 election being stolen has pushed right wing state Republicans to even more aggressively try to gain control over elections.
The American people should decide and only the American people for president not this crazy

Although Trump can be quite annoying to me at times, I still support him.
He started his presidency with a net worth of $3.7 billion and left office with $2.5 billion. Why would he run for President again after losing $1.2 billion? To lose another $1.2 billion? He could just enjoy his life with his grandkids, family, and golf, but he didn’t. Instead, he decided to run again in 2024.
While I find it hard to trust any politician, I’m inclined to believe in him because he’s the best option we have.
The most bizarre aspect of all of this is the fact that Trump has already been President for 4 years. I mean seriously, the USA survived last time without Trump destroying democracy. Why would you think it's going to be so different 2nd time around?
I would argue the last 4 years in America has been the worst 4 years At least of my lifetime for democracy , affordability and division and it’s actually been the left wing media.
