Brought up in Billingham in the seventies had a fantastic childhood spent many a day belting around the town centre thank the lord my parents moved by the way I lived on low grange avenue & went to st Joseph’s happy days 😃
Lee - hi. Originally I lived on Marsh House Avenue (not far from The Telstar). I also spent a lot if time around the Town Centre 👍😀 They were fun times 👍
Lots of changes in 12 years, and soon to change dramatically at the West Precinct end of the Town Centre. It will all be demolished to make way for a mix of housing, a new car park and some retail units. I believe the block of shops where Heron and Savers currently are, is going too. The empty shop just before the laundromat was Brian Bell's - a bit like a small Boyes store. Household goods.
Admittedly, at the moment the town centre could do with an improvement, which I believer there are plans to revitalise it. I've a Facebook group over here: facebook. com / groups / billingham/ - if you want to see what folks from Billingham are talking about?
wow what a depressing place,i was brought up in billingham 35 years ago,all my youth was spent at night hanging around there, its hardly changed, thank god im out of there ,since then i have lived all over uk ,billingham is the land that time forgot, anyone with half a brain cell would get out.
Adam - hi. At the moment the Town Centre it's undergoing a massive restructuring - Art Gallery, Council Offices and all the walkway between the bandstand and the Li Wah has been torn up. It's all being "redone".
Paul - hi. Yup The ICI Agri Offices aka Billingham House is now completely levelled. Sad day. facebook.com/groups/billingham/permalink/434305783289689/ - if you're part of this facebook Group I started then there's a good picture of how it looks today. And there's been a good few conversations about the monkeys in Boyes in that group as well. And here's the only known photo in existence: facebook.com/groups/billingham/permalink/419531728100428/

Hate to admit it - but I almost never go back these days. I left in 1994 and have failed to find anywhere in the world WORSE since.
There is a subway now!!
I know it was many things. Rumbelows maybe originally?
ethelaustin actually closed down in 2013 and then came back in 2015.
Lived in billog from 1966-1989, it was a dull grey depressing uninspiring place
Looks like paradise.
The shop at the beginning, I remember seeing it open >.< Can't remember the name though :
