      We had a 2015 AR240 in our group. As far as speed, 15-25 mph, it was a pretty rough crossing, unfortunately we didn’t have the best conditions especially for our first time, fighting the waves slowed us down, trip back was much better. Honestly not sure on the RPMs! I’ll see if I can find out from the others and I’ll let you know, I didn’t pay attention to that 😖 sorry! We used about 30-35 gallons crossing in our 252SE, we had to detour around storms in route as well so definitely wasn’t a straight shot across.

    I plan on doing this trip this summer. What insurance do you have for coverage in the Bahamas? I'm fine with having to go with a buddy boat. I have twin outboards but am under 26feet, that seems to be a problem many people have finding coverage. Nice video and thanks.

      State Farm. I understand that! Progressive is what we have/had and it offers coverage outside out the US for a certain amount of miles… Bahamian waters excluded though… the coverage they offer for the Bahamas is only for boats 26 ft and up though 😵‍💫

      you need better radio and hook ups than what you think. I had a buddy go with a Boston Whaler twin motors, one motor quit over half way, and the radio had taken a crap.
      Get a 2nd radio on seperate battery and tie it down tight. glue the wires down tight.
      Cant be too cautious, buddy boat is not Optional. Also consider that it's beyond poor etiquiet to approach other boats on the sea. It's a potential shooting situation. If you have problems ...... approaching other boats is REALLY bad judgement.

I had to go back and look to see what you were referring to and I think I understand now 🤣 one of the boats in our group had some new boat struggles when we first started the crossing and luckily it was quickly resolved. So there wasn’t the stopping and going for the trip, that was just for a few minutes right at the beginning when he was having the start/stop troubles.

    How do you navigate something like this, do you have special apps on the phone, or without service are you using a chart plotter on the boat?

    • @kellywebster1465
      @kellywebster1465 2 роки тому +1

      No service for sure out there… there are numerous apps you can download on your phone that you can store maps etc. We go in a group and everyone has something to cover us navigation and weather wise. Go by GPS coordinates and depth charts, after crossing the Gulf Stream, it gets crazy shallow in alot of areas around the islands, even out in the wide open after traveling an hour to another island/etc it can be 30 ft then all of a sudden 4 ft all around. Definitely have to factor in being able to navigate by depth once you get close to Bimini.

      We just got back from our now annual summer trip over 🤣 got a 75 gallon fuel tank, filled it up at the gas station when we got to Ft Lauderdale, put the boat in at Harbour Towne and went over to the Hilton and left out from there the next morning crossing over, we went back and forth between north and south Bimini, out to the sapona, honeymoon Harbour, up 30 miles north to Great Isaac and back, the sandbar, airplane, Radio Beach and around south for 5 days, only got gas twice there, put in 48 gallons on day 2 @ $8.00 a gallon and 53.5 gallons in on day 4 @ $7.46 a gallon, crossed back the morning of day 6 and 35% was showing left on the fuel after we got the boat back on the trailer. RPMs we’re greatly varied throughout the trip, mph anywhere between 19 and 35 all week, first hour of the crossing back at mostly 31 mph but up to 6000 rpm’s sometimes. Spent roughly $790 total in fuel in the Bahamas for the boat….. BUT spent about $1800 in fuel for the truck trailering the boat 900 miles down to Ft Lauderdale and back 🥴
