- The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: Dr. Watson meets Sherlock Holmes
Radio Drama
Starring:
Sir John Gielgud as Sherlock Holmes
Sir Ralph Richardson as Dr. John H. Watson
Co-produced by BBC and ABC in 1954.
How well I recall, now more than a half century later, as a youth thrilling to the original broadcasts, and how they led first to my spending my high school graduation prize money on a complete edition of the Sherlock Holmes novels and stories. I have been a devoted Holmsian, and avid reader in the genre ever since. What a delight at, now 80+ plus, to relive a cherished memory from so long ago!
I hope more people would listen to these. I love them and always will, even though I’m in my 40’s. The dialogue and pronunciation of these two knighted men is phenomenal, amazing to hear them together, thank you sooo much,
Sure... Its beautifull... I am studing English.
Look up radio classics
3 years later and I’m still listening to this series.
I love these. The writing & the voices of each. 🥰
Some years ago, my mom's close good friend Lee, was having a yard sale and I was there to help her out. One of the many things that she had for sale was this beautifully massive clamshell tome of audio cassettes that had old time radio dramas on them. I don't often beg for things, but I literally begged her to let me have it. It's something I absolutely treasure and it had this lovely rendition of Sherlock Holmes on it that you're hearing in the video above
That's cool!
Hahaha. What 9 people took the time to dislike a radio show from 1954. Hilarious. Goosebumps. I get goosebumps listening to this on a rainy day. Thanks uploader.
There are always idiots in this world!
Probably Kenneth Branach
It doesn't get _any_ better than Sir Arthur John Gielgud as Sherlock Holmes and Sir Ralph David Richardson as Doctor John Watson.
Their wonderful voices are Music to my ears! Thank you, for sharing.
So Turner Not the American announcer’s!
Even beyond Brett's splendidly iconic Holmes series, Gielgud at times reaches heights of British courtesy - particularly interacting with Orson Welles as Moriarty in "The Final Problem."
Absolutely first class.
After all these years, it still sounds amazing 🥹
I caught part of this episode on SiriusXM Radio Classics & just had to find it in it's entirety, thank you sharing this! I plan to listen each of these on my way to & from work, truly timeless classics, lots of science & detective work delivered by great actors. Bravo!
I love the part where they talk about their worst qualities as housemates : D
Excellent!
Just wonderful. I enjoyed every minute of this. Thanks very much for sharing :)
never heard these before. will enjoy listening to them...thanx for posting them...
It's terrific
Theater of the mind. Radio at its finest.
This series was the best of all dramatizations of Holmes.

This is sheer gold.
Thanks from Orlando

Sir John Gielgud ... the best Holmes ever

Good morning. I am brasilian. I am studing English. I wood like to travel for Canadá ,then I study English. Thank you.
this is velvetine rhythm
so cool
I really wish i could find the music that accompanies this work.
cannot be surpassed!
great
14:30 - "Stanford" sounds just like Cary Grant.
Well done, of course...
Nigel Bruce was a hero in real life, injured as a combatant, son of a baronet, but a mumbling incomprehensible aural catastrophe as he acted Dr. Watson.
Sir. Ralph is music to ears.
I have a set of these uploaded but it appears my set is a little out of order.
This does not sound like the story of Holmes meeting Watson
At 15:17: " ... on an army pension of 11s 6d per day." That's about £4 10s per week. An adequate lower-middle class income in the last quarter of the nineteenth century, and Watson is complaining about it.
wow, you need to find a better hobby....
Attacking my comments seems to be your hobby! Was what I said inaccurate, dunce?
danny smith Might I suggest that it is you, sir, who is in need of something...a life perhaps. Certainly you could use some manners and an education might be helpful in attaining them
Gambling problem maybe?
He just didn't have enough to get somewhere decent in an reasonable part of London on what he had.
I listen to these not fake news cnn
Lucy Liu .... best Watson ever
Too rushed with little emotion.
At 22:36: "Where in the tropics [sic] ... " Where, indeed! Parts of Afghanistan can be very hot, but it's not in the tropics, no more than California's Death Valley is. It's considerably north of the Tropic of Cancer. Sloppy editing, sloppy writing.
ok , thanx for that useless piece of information ...
The truth is never useless, dunce!
I liked that useless peice of info. I know it was a year ago but thanks. Put me down for a like
❤️❤️❤️
