I was body shamed by my aunt at a family gathering.. Me and my cousin(who's petite) were coming back from the shops and we put the goods on the table and sat down, aunt came in and said "no wonder y'all are so big, cant even put stuff where they belong". It got to me so badly I broke down cause I knew it was directed to me.
I've always avoided comments about my weight especially when it comes from strangers cause they don't know crap about my life but it gets to me when it's a family member because that should be my safe place away from all the body shaming..
Thank you for sharing this. I LOVE YOU SIS❤️

Siza, last Dec I got in trouble because I said to my aunt commenting about weight is not a greeting because there is alot going on with her looks but we not saying anything, when my family wanted to call me to order I explained where I was coming from and it went on to many other avenues, asking my recently married cousin about kids and all that other stuff like you saying that has NOTHING to do with them, I told them our houses don't have dogs that bite, and if they carry on with this behavior we won't go home anymore...
People were shook, my dad even stood with me because he saw ukhuthi I was at my last wit with this behavior, ndi dikwe finish!
I stand with u, mindfulness is important, kindness important and I will repeat my Dec stance if I have to o, it needs to change.
    The movement continues 🤜🏾

Hi Siza i think wena u are a nice person nje under G-general . This are trully convos we should be having daily . For wena u might have been able to think and internalise it during the day when that lady was working and even be strong enought to speak to her about it .
What about that boy or girl who cant even say anything after such words, this is also what causes di mental health issues to those who are not as stong as you Siza .
    #Little education is dangerous
Not education in a formal sense but in an informal way where we learn to teach each other to be sensetive and think before speaking anything .

I absolutely hate it when people make such comments about people’s bodies! “Oh you’re so fat, oh you’re so skinny, when are you having a baby, why did you have a baby” all that nonsense really gets to me. My best friend liked making such comments (mind you, I’m actually very happy with my body weight and had been working hard towards my current weight) the first thing she and her fiancé would say after not seeing me since the lock down was “oh my goodness, you’re so fat” and that time I’m thinking, I’m 58kg and I’m actually happy with my weight.

most people would have probably been extremely rude to uSarah & chased her out .
abanye ke could have even hit her cause some people dont take nonsense at all .
you handled the situation very well because you didnt belittle or say rude things to her instead you decided to let her know where she was wrong & telling her not to do that to the next person .
you expanded her knowledge & that shows how much of a great woman that you are .

I was body shamed by a passenger in a taxi yesterday, I was going to a place that's about 70KM away from my house, she said "You should have taken a walk, so that you will loose some fat" 😑 I looked at her and asked her to repeat that and she giggled, and had the audacity to repeat it.

So inspired and proud of you Siza. These conversations must be had. And regarding the concerns about health and what not, I hardly believe that health concerns are the reason why majority of people feel the need to comment on other people's weight. It's just u'kthanda izindaba. And you'll find that many plus size people are leading far healthier lives than those who appear look tinier. People must "rest" ngempela 😂😂.

I have big feet, when I was younger I was called " Big foot" and "Loaf size" by some men at the market. Ever since then I started buying smaller sized shoes... they hurt. Years later I'm suffering the consequences ALONE! My hubby is sweet, he pushes me to buy those loaf sized shoes and rock them and be happy. That has definitely boosted my confidence.
