    Happy almost 40 DQ1! :D
I love the original Dragon Quest, tend to replay it on the Gameboy Color version more but it's such a short and quick RPG that becomes a game you can easily experiment with it's mechanics and how open it is make you approach it in many ways (again the remakes allow for this more because it decrease the grinding by a lot).
Most common knowledge is Dragon Quest being inspired by Wizardry and Ultima series. The big thing is that the first game is overt about it's inspiration, the Famicom original version looks like an Ultima game almost 1 to 1 especially the sprites. The whole progression of the game is like the Ultima games where it's more about collecting key items in order to open the final dungeon to the end of the game, which even for DQ it's unique how it's not putting you on a linear path and just let you explore and discover on your own, we can arguably say that II and III are similar in this regard.
With regards to XI I get some of the complaints, it is one of my all time favorites from the series and probably my favorite game from recent generation... Thing is it takes a long time to get to the real fun part of the game, which is the post game. Because it opens up and there are really interesting revelations of the world (despite loving the characters and their development).
XI biggest problem to me is the overworld design, it feels more linear than even VIII's world design.
I admit that I don't think linearity is a problem, but for a series that despite looking all cute and fun does want to challenge the player both on gameplay and navigating where to go, the overworld design is very straight forward.
Despite having branching paths, it doesn't feel like the game wants you to explore as much, it's very clear on where to go, heck you even get reminders in the menu. The dungeons are also very short and easy because of not having random encounters, which make me theories that because the game was made for 3DS and PS4 at the same time, and they made the game 3 times (4 if we count the definitive edition) it had to be this way to accommodate all the versions it was made for at the same time, not to utilize the full power of either one.
The first two acts of the game are not very challenging if you play the game normally (low level is harder as usual for DQ) and I bet the Draconian quest restrictions make the game more challenging, but at this point it makes me wish there was a difficulty select.

Happy birthday to the Father of RPGs!!
I bought Ultima III recently. I noticed the striking similarities and hope to try it out soon.
At the 40 or 50 hour mark in 11 and it's just dragging and not in the "dragon" way. I have a few more party members to re-recruit but it feels like a chore at this point.

Interesting. I’ve thought about which versions I’ll play when I eventually play through DQ, but I never knew about a GameBoy Color version. Cool info!

@@TheLegendofLeo it's a port of the super Famicom remake but unlike that it was released officially in English, easily my favorite version of the first 3 games.

The short answer with AI and anything digital is that it’s “when,” not “if”. There will be no limit to what AI will eventually be able to do when it comes to the virtual world.

Also, "perhaps." I don't anticipate an AI takeover any time soon. But I can see it affecting some lower-entry jobs.

Ai should just stick to random meme stuff like AI song covers and parody voice videos.
1 thing idk if you guys knew about was that willy wonka park that opened up in scotland and the advertisements were all done by AI and when people got there it was the most low budget thing ever and people were angry and wanted refunds. its an interesting story to read about
