I acquired a Featherweight just yesterday, and I’ve learned so much from Ruthie through these UA-cam videos. I agree with others that Ruthie is a natural at video presentations and is an excellent instructor. Thank you!
Ruthie-What a great job you do on these tutorials! I've sewn on nothing but the new computerized machines in the past and just the other day bought my first featherweight 221! Thanks for making it sound so easy to use! Looking forward to more of your great videos! Thanks!
Interestingly, I discovered on my "new" featherweight that the backstitch stitch lengths are mirror image to the numbers of stitches per inch printed on the machine. In other words, if you move the lever to the top position, it will backstitch in long stitches (like 6 stitches per inch) and the closer you get to the 30, the tighter the backstitches are! I've never noticed that on any other machine.
This series could not have been posted at a better time as I just inherited my grandma's Singer Featherweight from the 1950s. I have a question, is there a way to make it so the machine does not stitch so fast? As a newbie I wish I could slow it down!
There is a tutorial on the Featherweight Schoolhouse, under Maintenance & Tutorials, then Electrical, that will show you how to adjust the speed with the foot controller adjustment. Thanks for asking! singer-featherweight.com/blogs/schoolhouse
