Have watched this video three times now. I have been playing the Pirc Defense and the London Opening that you suggested. Was opposed to learning openings a year ago when my indifference set in again. However, they started a Veterans Chess Club in August 2023 and my interest returned. I'm commenting now because we have an acommplished member who once reached 1790 Elo - our strongest player - who has mentioned twice that I've begun with the Vienna helping some ladies ease into playing. It just seemed natural to me to back up the e4 pawn with the knight to c3 - but I wasn't playing a system. I'd heard of the Vienna but didn't know the positioning. It reminds me of a reverse London. I like how you explained the London with opposite-side castling. Still gotta get comfortable with making contact first - the right way. I'm rambling. Yet as we approach our fourth meeting next week, you've helped me grasp the Vienna better. I'm taking to fianchettoing the bishops in the Pirc and Vienna. Oh, my current rating is about 530 - so I've got a heap of improving to do before year's end. I believe I can hang with 1000-rated players, but I guess the numbers don't lie. Thank you for being my coach. Edit: I erred in saying the Vienna is like a reverse London. I noted similarities in my mind, but they are distinct and I don't want to mislead anyone. Fourth viewing....
Simple and efficient ideas! As a newbie myself I started playing with D4 for White and the Pirc and Kings Indian for Black. I am in the early 1000 range for Rapid and this is very helpful advice.
Thanks coach, a white repertoire based on Vienna with g3, Closed Sicilian and KIA is consistent and makes a lot of sense, as the ideas and approach are similar. Simple, thematic, easy to play, low memorisation and plan- based. Low maintenance, and we don't face disaster if we forget our move order. It is possible to combine with Exchange Caro Kann. It would be a nice alternative to the Stonewall Attack. You could use this ideas for a future Chessable course.
This video has already been more eye-opening than the Vienna course I've been slogging through on Chessable for several weeks! It's my first white opening to try to learn so I'm glad you recommend it. (As I chose the Pirc for black on your recommendation!)
Hi Rob, in which lesson do you explain the two middle game plans (two options) for the Vienna game? In this video, you reference it, but don't go into detail. I looked for it in Lesson 34, but it's not there either. Thanks in advance.
from 2080 i came back to 1600 when i stopped playing my regular openings but now i just know the first 4 moves of any opening i am playing right now and got to 1850 with them but with the training of endgame and middle game. i don't know how much importance one should give to openings
Dear NM Robert Ramirez, I recently watched your video on 'Vienna for beginners' and I wanted to reach out to express how much I enjoyed it. Your explanations were clear and easy to follow, and I learned a lot from the video. I was wondering if you would consider making a similar video but focused on the black side in chess. I think it would be incredibly helpful for beginners like myself who are looking to improve their skills and strategies in the game. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise with the chess community, and I look forward to seeing more of your videos in the future.
@@NMRobertRamirez Great series! Do you have another video demonstrating, when using this opening, what a typical middle game plan would look like if black castles queen side? Thank you again for this extremely useful series.
for the bishop trap at 8:39, if you're playing as black why not just take the pawn with the bishop? if pawn takes then you take back with the knight. if white takes with rook you take with queen. you're up by 1 material point, and you avoid the bishop trap, even if you lose your bishop. isn't this viable?
Great video, it would be good to give hints at what to look for in the opponent's game for when this opening shouldn't be used. Like in the 1st 4-5 moves, black pieces won't necessarily move the way you show it here. Saying that after getting wrecked a few times by bots while playing the opening no matter what :] For example they came up with a nasty bishop on C5.
Is there a name for this system? It looks similar to the Vienna at first but I've never seen it played with the King's Bishop fianchetto'd like that. Very interesting.
I've been playing this opening for 2 days now and can say for sure that my game has improved. I'm a complete noob with elo 370. I'd like to know the name of the opening, please. Also, you channel is great. Great lessons. Thank you for what you doing.
I think that you have to understand and memorise the pattern itself, you don't need to focus on remembering this concrete puzzle position at all. So it's actually important to take a moment to play out in the head the solution of the puzzle and to sort of remember it, especially when you didn't solve it correctly, so that it gets engrained in your brain. Most chess players don't do such a thing, they take quantity over quality, so I think it's important to point it out. It's better to solve 7 puzzles but with clear comprehension than to sprint through 20 puzzles.
Thanks for the idea, but I do not like my beginner students pushing the castle pawns in front of the king. I will recommend the Vienna to intermediate students.
Boss, aesthetics matter, the dull blue background isnt helping you. My advice (take it or leave it) - make your aesthetic more vibrant. Not a monotone dull blue, but something bright and robust. Also icy-sea pieces, not my personal choice, but whats generally most preferred. Consider these points as marketing advice. Aesthetics matter a lot to people, more than they think. Appreciate your work, lots of love.
Thanks a lot Rajveer! I will definitely change it up a bit. I am always looking for what's easier on my eyes, but you got a point 👍 I constantly get complements on the aesthetics and people even request the background image via email :) I will try Ice Sea Board and Neo Pieces for now. I can always do a survey and feedback that way. Thanks a lot for taking the time to share this valuable info 🙌😎
@@NMRobertRamirez yeah a survey sounds great, also thanks for taking the time to reply! I may be overstepping but, i think icy sea board* is overused, hikaru used it in his speedruns too. So maybe some other board color, not sure. Maybe you can ask for the board color in the survey! Also icy sea pieces are the standard and reliable. But even this can be cross checked in the survey. Have a great day boss. Ggs.

This is a psyop, Professor RobRam wants all noobs to play E4 so we get an easy Pirc against them

Yes, this is Vienna game (fianchetto variation) 👍

I watched till 35 lessons and I have a very good improvement
I think this system is weak again Caro Kann? Cam you elaborate?
When you say beginner what is the rating
What is this opening called
May I ask?Do I have to memorize puzzle or just understand and solve the puzzle

Hey Robert, great lesson! Do you think the Vienna is better than the colle system for beginners ?
In my opinion, yes. However, feel free to try both and compare what you enjoy more 👍
nice gg vid
Hey i have 1500 elo now is it still a nive opening for me?
I played it and get good games with it against tough opponents 👍
Hey which opening is it is it viana?
Yes, Vienna (fianchetto line) 👍
Bro what is that picture at 5:25 😂
