Modric is the kind of player that his contribution to the game cannot be measured by statistics alone. His vision, anticipation, little things here and there,setting the tempo, supporting the man with the ball make his game a masterclass for midfielders. His craftsmanship separates him on the pitch
The thing what separates Modric is his footballing brain. It’s on another level then almost everyone else. He almost always makes the right descision look so easy when in reality it’s rather difficult.
I don't like to compare players across different generations and times but such is human nature. However, he is unarguably one of the best midfielders of all time, probably safely in the top 5. I think what makes him special is his love for the game, his dedicated work ethic, his quiet leadership, knowledge of the game and being a humble footballer. He will win a World Cup one day, but I think it will be as the Croatian Head Coach. I wish that he would come to the USMNT and coach us but I think that is a far fetched dream. Let's all just watch him play and enjoy seeing him outrun 18 year olds and making passes that defy physics. But at some point time will catch up to his body, so let enjoy it while it lasts.
