I have said it before, and I will say it again - I love this series so much. I never thought I would get hooked on a series about fish/aquariums, but this series got me from episode one. For me, this was one of those series that came out at the perfect time for me, and I am so glad you did weekly reviews for this one. 👍
They kinda did Kai dirty tho. Throughout Core 1, Kai seems to like Kukuru in a romantic way and it was nice to see how Kai's character was about always helping Kukuru somehow. And it was sweet how he truly cared about her and tries his best to help her sometimes and even gets worried about Kukuru wanting to keep Gama Gama open. Plus this boy so in love this man deadass went to have a job there I shit you not- (Not to mention he really said to Fuuka at some point in Core 2 when she was upset pulling a whole Kukuru he really said "Wow that's a good Kukuru impression" and Fuuka's like "wait what???" And then Kai gets embarrassed saying "Nevermind." that scene was funny and cute change my mind (he just baby 😊) I wish P.A. would of went on with this plot point a little more instead of just having an episode where we see Kai and Kukuru as kids and just a fish for some reason and that's it for his character development. In the beginning of Core 2, they don't even have Kai get screen time or even if he does, it's just for a few episodes and that sucks. WE EVEN GET A FULL SCENE OF KAI AND THAT GUY WITH GLASSES BEING A FULL ON WINGMAN FOR HIM (comically of course) AND EVEN *THAT* WENT NO WHERE. I get how this is a slice of life and there were other things for him to worry about like for an example his father but I feel like this little arc was too underdeveloped and too overlooked. They even could of went with an ending where he DOES tell him Kukuru's feelings towards her with her saying yes or no, or even an ending where he moves on from Kukuru and even ends up dating someone else or just stays single. At least some sort of closure but of course, his character got ignored
I agree. I rated this show 8/10 but it would have been 9/10 if they'd either given Kai's story a proper ending or just not introduce his romance towards Kukuru in the first place.
The second half was the better half of the anime. The characters actually just working, instead of some random cliché SoL conflict improved it a lot. Or as one of the characters put it, it's working and not play working.
The series is a solid Good for me, a bit before the anime came out I watched Hanasaku Iroha and Sakura Quest which both are also made by PA Works and are bangers in my opinion, so I did temper my expectations since I did find it unlikely to get a third banger just by chance. Like I suspect most do, I did enjoy the first half a lot more, but at the same time was kinda getting a bit tired of it, so I actually am not sure if I would've liked the show more or less if it had gone in that same pace.
great show just beautiful, you do feel the shift between the 1st and 2nd half maybe splitting it skipping a cour between both halfs would have helped make it less noticeable. The first is amazing the second can be annoying by how often it knocks down Kukuru each time she tries to get up and mostly just ignores Fuuka. Tingaara started preety toxic with antagonistic coworkers and boss then its an instant 180 in their character and its all fine. In the end not sure if Kukuru adapted and learnt to like the new aquarium/job or she was just Stocholmed into going along with it all. Other than that just loved it and its highlight of the year

The aquatope on white sand is beautiful anime of 2021.
