Its okay to declutter as you go through your house on trash day. Dawn also has a declutter box that she puts in her car on trash day to take to the donation center.
I think you can put declutter and garbage day together, if it's nice enough then donate it without the guilt. As long as it gets out of the house then you are good.
I agree. Next time I’ll have to have a declutter bag ready to go as well :)
Don’t be too hard on yourself! It broke my heart when you said “I’ll link her video below….because I’m sure it’s much better than this one”. I can feel your uncertainty and insecurity, it reminds me of me.
Your video is amazing and encouraging! I watch TONS of minimal videos, just came across your channel! This is the first video of yours I’ve come across and I promise you are doing great ❤️ keep going girly 🫶🏼
You’re so sweet!! :) I’m glad I could be motivating :) I love decluttering and minimal videos too ♥️
Thanks for the encouraging words! I really appreciate it!
Near 35 or 36 minutes, those nice stiff boxes are free, and great for inside drawers. Idea for hair ties, floss, charger cables, rubber bands, erasers, beads. I know the goal is toss, but having small boxes for drawer organizing is also helpful. Free is ideal.
I have done this trash night routine for many years and drop off anything that can be donated in the morning gets loaded in the car. Works for me!
That was so therapeutic. So much trash that really took no thinking about. It's scary how it accumulates when you're not paying attention.
I have to decant basically everything in my kitchen. I have (actual, diagnosed) OCD, and packaging is stressful with the colors and shapes. Plus I live in the country, so any and everything is fair game to field mice and tiny black ants who try to break in during the rainy and winter seasons, so I try to keep everything as mouse and ant proof as possible.
The result is a very Pinterest worthy pantry, but it's practical for my lifestyle and needs. People tease me about my canning jar hoard just don't get it. I have times where they're all in use or all empty. It is what it is lol.
Sounds beautiful!
Packaging from food is so ugly 😂
I would love to see your pantry ♥️ a little jealous that you can keep that up!
I don’t know if I have the will and patience to continue making it look beautiful. Even though I would like to.
But I understand needing to keep the bugs and rodents out, that would be so nasty to go to your bag of rice and find a mouse in there. Yuck! 🤢
I don’t have OCD but I also decant because I don’t like a cluttered look to my cabinets and shelves- my eyes just ping when there are too many colors or shapes or seeing a box top flapping open. My decorating style is also less not minimal- just a few things for a pretty look- because I am all about not spending my days cleaning tchotchkes (dust collectors) that I have to pick up and put back after dusting and any furniture or cabinets with carving or details that would have me using a w-tip to clean. I just don’t like to spend that much time on stuff when I would rather be reading and listening to music! So I keep it simple and basic. And living in a rural area with lots of bugs and field mice is another reason for decanting products like foods and other things that attract those creepy crawlies.
The day before I get groceries I clean out the fridge. Toss old. Wipe down shelves. Then I straighten the pantry and add to my list. Helps me alot to stay on top of it.
Always have a donate box or bag going.. helps so much. I keep a bag hanging in my closet.
I used all my old shampoo and conditioner for hand soap
This was fun!
I’m so glad we could get things done together! It feels good to have the garbage OUT! :)
Most police stations take old prescriptions. Also I appreciate that u still prefer to donate vs toss out some things
Go Lindsay!! I
keep basket as a “launch pad” on my mudroom of all the things to return to a friend or
relative. When we are headed out I check it and remember to return things!
Such a great idea! We do this with my MIL’s Tupperware and stuff that needs to go to our utility room.
That's a good idea. My mom literally lives just next door, and some things we borrow stay in our house for weeks.
And in my area, the RX take back used to be at the police station, but now it's at the Target pharmacy!
This is why I do this with a trash bag, recycle and donate box. I couldn’t bare to throw stuff out that’s good to donate when it’s as easy to throw it in the other box
I think nail polish should go into special handling waste not the general rubbish.
This is a great example of "maintenance ". Just doing this once a month, keeps it cleared out. Good habit to keep! I think it's alot more effort, when a person is just getting started on a declutter journey.
I completely agree, but you gotta start somewhere I think :) and starting with garbage is a great way to start.
Have you been doing minimalism long?
You're such a good mom!
I love when garbage day approaches as I think I will be able to get rid of a lot of clutter. Most of the times I don’t get much done.😩 I love the Minimal Mom and I did see that video. I’m trying to declutter so am looking for all of the motivation I can get. Going to subscribe now.❤️
Thanks so much Debbie! I love knowing that a complete trash bin of garbage is leaving my house! It feels amazing!
I need lots of motivation too, I’m so glad there are other people like me that just need a little motivation 🥰 we need to stick together!
Im going through baby clothes again (my final time) as my littlest has outgrown stuff. My sister is having her first baby so my frame of mind is if it looks nearly brand new I give it to her. If it looks in decent condition I donate it. If it's got holes or noticeable stains I trash it.
Also, everytime I have an empty diaper box I aim to fill it up with donations. That's been an easy goal. Doesn't always happen, but most of the time it does!
You did a great job!!!
Another good category to include would be any chipped plates, bowls, cups, mugs, glasses.
You are so fun to watch.
sometimes things are just trash. even though we wish for them to get a second chance for someone else and it's hard to throw them out. but at some point it's time - for me it's leftover candles. bc I *could* make new ones out of them. but I didn't for years. so i threw them out as well.
Is there a story of the eucalyptus branch in your air vent? LOL! I just feel there has to be a story there ;)
3 bags, woo hoo, great job 👏🏼 🎉
I know it's hard to run into a store when you have a little one, but CVS has a take back bin (the drawer is secured so no one can take anything out of it) near their pharmacy where you can run in and drop off meds.
Yeah I was looking into that! Im pretty sure that’s what I’ll do! Thanks for the reminder!
Next time I’m out I’ll have to drop it off :)
You did a great job getting rid of old food stuff! 👍
Your hair is cute today, and so is Dan.😊
Awww thanks!!! Dan says thank you! 😂
It felt so good to get all the trash out after being sick for a few days! It’s crazy how trash accumulates in our houses!!
Good reminders. I know I have nail polish that needs to go. My fantasy self always has their nails painted but reality me does have the time or patience for that. 😅
Haha agreed!!!! I could probably literally only keep 1 color and that would be sufficient for how often I paint my nails, I could even buy a brand new bottle for everytime I paint them and it wouldn’t set me back like at all 😂😂😂
Especially since I buy the $2 bottles from Walmart 😂😂😂
I always say that we'll find that one missing shoe, puzzle piece, toy, etc. when we move. In like 15 years. ;) so you're right to just let that shoe go!
Haha ain’t that the truth 😂😂😂
It’s better to just replace later if we need it, rather than try to wait for the other shoe to come back.
99 times out of 100 it never does come back, so why hold 100 things just for the 1!?? Seems a little silly to me 😂
Your son is such a dollbaby ❤️
I’m so impressed you could do that with all the help! 😂
Great declutter, simple and positive ,hi to Dan very cute 😊
I get the consept of garbage day delcutter, just let it go! but when I would thow out glass jar s like that I probably would get a waring/fine for not recyling.
good job!! You are so funny! LOL 🤣
Hi Lindsay! Hi Dan!
Wow, you did super good. Nothing wrong with having 2 bags (maybe white & black) for rubbish and donations. Problem is, I would end up walking about with a recycling bag as well, and lose momentum. I don't always feel like washing yoghurt pots for recycling etc. I've noticed Benjamin is getting more art and craft bits and bobs but I'm keeping them out of reach at the moment. I can already see a line of pen drawn on the wallpaper in the bedroom and the bed sheet lol. Awesome job inspiring me to look at categories rather than for just stuff xx
The laundry basket as a garbage bin is genius! I can never find a big enough bin to fit but be bigger than the little bathroom sized bins
I got the idea from a family I nannied for, it just took me a while to find the right size basket :) online measurements were my saving grace 😂
Oh also! You know when the bag get too full in a garbage bin and it suctions to the sides? The holes in the basket stop that from happening! It’s like magic! :)
Ooh I love Dawn's advice, this is going to be a great video 👌
You inspired me to do the same. I had watched Dawn‘s video, but now I did it. 😊
You’re awesome! I’m so glad you were able to get that done! Doesn’t it feel so good!?!
Hi Dan! ❤️
I had bought the "just fruit" jams a while back and then found out they have some fruit juice concentrate or something to sweeten them which turns out to be as much carbs as the ones with sugar but way more expensive. Maybe you still prefer them, but I just thought I'd mention it if you want to check and maybe save some money.
I am definately going to use this list tomorrow. You mentioned recycling, but was surprised how much cardboard went into the garbage. Are you restricted to certain things, certain weeks with recycling. It reduces the garbage amount tremendously.
No, I just had to get the trash out, most days I do recycle, but I just needed to get things out without the guilt :)
I usually recycle all boxes, but I just needed to give myself grace and say, it’s okay today. I was overwhelmed from looking at my house and all the trash.
Felt good :)
I love how real this video (and your channel) is!
Loved following you around while you clean. Good motivation
Thanks so much Michelle ♥️♥️ you are so kind! I love making these videos, so thanks so much for hanging out with me!!!
Sorry to bombard your comment section, but I keep a binder with plastic sleeves for my son's artwork and awards. He's 18 now, so I don't really add to it anymore, but I have a binder for him and a binder for me. Just the best of the best, and may be cool for him to look at in the future. Realistically, I approach things with the Swedish Death Cleaning mindset, because he's my only kid, and not particularly sentimental about things, so I've tried to minimize the mess he'll inherit from me. (Not that I plan on it being anytime soon.)
Way to go! You got a lot done :)
We got a big dumpster since our sump pump failed and our basement is getting really decluttered!
DSW has a shoe program where you bring shoes in each week and you get points and you can get money off your next purchase. As well as sneaker mail back programs for those in need.
Hi Dan!
I have done the 21 item declutter a couple of times since watching her video and it encourages me to do chores I have been putting off.
For example, I was nudged to change the 2 dead light bulbs in the bathroom vanity so I could toss them and also have more than just the weak light one bulb gave off. Sounds funny but I had been putting it off until I needed 2 more items to make my 21 ! Hey, anything that gets us closer to the goal of having less clutter, right ?
What was the refuse to use item?
Canola oil spray, I’ve been trying to cut out certain types of oils in my cooking. :) it’s been good to do it:)
Why didn’t you recycle all those jars & packagings
I usually recycle, but I was so overwhelmed when I started, I told myself I could have this one day to just toss things. I didn’t want to make it harder, I just needed progress.
Sometimes you just have to make things easy on yourself, or you won’t do it.
It’s okay to not be perfect all the time ♥️♥️♥️
23:07 why do Americans still use so much plastic bags 🤔🙈? Please lead by example and take baskets to the grocery store with you. Here in Germany the plastic bags are nearly gone, because plastic bags are freaking expensive.
I love the laundry basket as a trash or recycle bin
