Very comprehensive for a beginner’s level! I liked the part where it mentioned the importance of using good quality mineral nutrition! It is so basic yet so many producers ignore it!

As a cow/calf producer that grow our calves for 90+ days after weaning, this was very very helpful. Thanks!

This was an excellent video presentation. So much useful information. I am looking to start feeding cattle as a value add instead of just selling my corn to my local ethanol plant. Looking forward to finding more videos or reports by Dr. Francis Fluharty.

Very helpful video , we run 350 - 400 cattle in our feedlot here in australia we have had some acidosis issues from time to time and have tried alot of different ways to stop it eg less grain , acid buf , more straw in the mix and so on but we try to empty the troughs out every day but your segment on bunk managment has made me realise how important it is to get it right , thankyou.

Calcium in your ration. If buy supplements from a feed mill heavy into the feeding business. They may not be treating you right. Find a nutritionist or quit before you are broke.

@@rickmatz1935 Cheers for your reply Rick , our acidocis issue has been solved a few months ago it was simple really just add more water to the mix because we had a feed separation issue now we are up around 1.7 to 2.0 kg LWG a day average.

Excellent presentation and information. I just wanted to know; how to determine the feed requirement vs live weight of a calve.

THANK YOU!! I'm no permaculture noob, I hate that these people try to wreck large farms with bad farming management. If people can grow 1.5acres of food and hire 7 people whilst making $380k and permaculture can only feed 60% of a families diet on a 5 acre lot... the evidence is evident.
I do appreciate Your Educated Advanced Farming advice.

As long as you don't count all the land to grow the grain, and all the poison, and all the fuel, and all the exhaust, and the mines, refineries, wells, machinery, steel mills, factories.....
Just misinformation ; if you can't feed your family and several more on 5 acres, you're a very inept farmer, i don't believe you

What people try to "wreck large farms" besides feedlots and chemical farmers ?

    • @charleswalters5284

It's just not true that you can't feed a family on 5 acres😊

Im not a cowman, but I alway felt that any grain fed to cattle should be course ground preferably rolled grain.

Thank you for all this information. I am feeding 2 steers to butcher. Going to feed whole corn. Will they eat too much hay if i keep big bale out for them?? Or should i mix cotton seed hulls and oats with the corn? The hay would be lot cheaper.

What are your thoughts on feeding ground ear corn with whole corn. In self feeders.

Thank you so much this was extremely helpful.
I’m juggling my options I own a small property here in south Texas I’m starting a small Cattle operation, my goal is to build up to a cow calf op. But due to the size I really want to maximize earnings to grow my operations from with-in before seeking a loan.
I was thinking of going the feeder calf route but without the beautiful rolling pastures though but more of a feedlot approach, higher count of animals with purchased grains and forage here locally. Any recommendations? is this a bad idea or is it possible ideally starting at 250lbs up to 650-800lbs then off to sale
You answered a lot of questions I had in your presentation but
What feed program in your opinion would be suitable for young feeders
And how often do I go in and clean facilities from the assumed cake that will build during process
I dnt plan to fill to capacity I have a sectioned off feedlot style corral system that I’d like to use as a rotation tool or can I get away with filling to 3/4 or full capacity to maximize returns
Thanks any advice would be greatly appreciated Cuattro Bar M Cattle Co. 4-Mco

I have been feedlotting in australia for 20 years now my answer to it is do yourself a favour and DONT do it there is way too many variables eg cattle prices , grain prices , fuel price and in australia the government won't help you .
