FEAST OF 1st APPARITION OF OUR LADY OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA in Portugal

The story begins in the village of Fatima, Portugal, on May 13, 1917. On that fateful day near that tiny village, The Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, appeared to three young peasant children: Francisco, Jacinta, and Lucia; ages 10, 9 and 7.
On 13 May 1917, the shepherd children reported seeing a woman "brighter than the sun, shedding rays of light clearer and stronger than a crystal goblet filled with the most sparkling water and pierced by the burning rays of the sun." The woman wore a white mantle edged with gold and held a rosary in her hand.
Our Lady of Fátima appeared on six occasions throughout 1917. She first appeared to Lucia dos Santos and her cousins near the Portuguese village of Fátima on May 13. Following the initial event, the children reported seeing the vision five more times, once each month through October.
